Cheating The VF AI ================== VF1 - arcade and Saturn ----------------------- Up until VF4, this was probably the best of the AI's in the VF series. While the CPU couldn't quite replace good human competition as the best way to enjoy VF, VF1's AI could actually be very fun if you played against it as you would a human. There are only a few ways to cheat the CPU in VF1. * Playing as Kage/Jeffry/Sarah/Wolf/Akira/Jacky(F+P,K): Repeated P,K's ad infinitum, if blocked, will usually push the CPU character out of the ring, who rarely stops and thinks to knock you out of the P,K. It'll just keep blocking them. * Playing as Lau: Similar to the previous entry, repeated P,P,P,d+K's, if blocked, can push the CPU out of the ring. Against CPU Akira, repeated P,P,P's will usually be responded to with a DE. * Playing as Jacky/Sarah/Kage: If your ub+K kickflip is blocked by the CPU, try another kickflip immediately. Sometimes the CPU will eat the second one. * Playing as Lau/Kage/Pai: The CPU will eat backward kickflips (ub+K or b,b+K and P,P,P,ub+K) almost every single time. Useful if you're in a losing situation, because it's nearly completely guaranteed that the CPU will eat it and take horrendous damage. VF2 & VF2.1 - arcade and Saturn ------------------------------- Whoever designed the normal (not the expert mode) AI for VF2 should be bludgeoned to death with a Saturn. It's horrible. It will duck all of your high attacks no matter what * it _never_ blocks high attacks. And worse, it can magically duck all of your high throws. It can be pure hell at times. These tricks will only work against the normal mode AI. If properly "trained", the expert mode AI will not fall for these tricks. * All characters: Back off a few meters, then quickly dash back into range for a throw attempt. Surefire, rarely fails. * All characters: A large forward jump at the very outset of the round will usually cause the CPU opponent to back dash in order to meet your descending character. Landing kicks and late mid-air kicks have a high sucess rate of connecting. * All characters: Against CPU Wolf and Jeffry, do a high kick at the beginning of the round. Usually the CPU will do a P+G throw, which can be broken. More effective against CPU Wolf. * Playing as Akira: Kill CPU Wolf and Jeffry with repeated P,P's. The CPU will either be pushed out of the ring or KO'ed from eating the second P. * Playing as Pai/Sarah/Jacky/Kage: CPU Wolf and Jeffry will eat the last K of a P,P,K almost _every single_ time. Very effective, and useful for when CPU Jeff decides to turn into a undefeatable pig (which is almost every time). * Playing as Sarah/Jacky/Lau/Kage/Pai/Lion: CPU Wolf and Jeffry will eat the last P of a P,P,P almost every single time. Lion can usually follow up with d+K or low pounce. * Playing as Wolf/Jeffry: Do a P,K at the immediate outset of the round against CPU Jeff and Wolf. They will almost always eat the K for MC damage, allowing a high pounce. * Playing as Shun: Sit down (d,d) near the very edge of the ring. The CPU will (usually, not always) try to P,K you, which will miss and push both out. However, often you will win, because the opponent will be the first ones out, due to the way Shun sits. * Playing as Akira: Do a stun palm (P+K+G), and try a reversal. Lau will almost always high kick or punch you, and the rest up to Lion will almost always low punch or kick you. After Lion it rarely works; they'll start to throw you. * Playing as Akira: Do a SE (db+P+G) or 2/3 SPoD (P+K+G,b,df+P+K), and try a high reversal. Usually, but not always, the CPU will try a high TT attack, which can be reversed. Works well on Akira and Dural, and can be used to try to set up either character in the reversal trap bug. * Playing as Jeffry/Wolf/Pai: Up to CPU Lion, a low throw is almost completely guaranteed after the CPU ducks your high punch. After Lion it becomes difficult if not impossible. * Playing as Wolf: db+P, repeat ad infinitum. Up to and after CPU Lion, the CPU will toss out sidekicks which will be reversed. Big damage. VF3ob Rev A-C arcade -------------------- There really aren't any cheats, at least not in exploitable patterns found in the other games. The AI is sort of bizarre, and has only a very, very few random exploitable patterns. And its difficulty will vary on not just how the machine is set, but also how good the player(s) is(are). It can be very difficult on machines with decent players, but it's a total lame duck on machines that haven't had any players or only crap players. It will also change in mid-game - if you do a damaging combo or technique early on and you _will_ piss it off. However there are these two exploitable bugs in the AI programming and game: * Freeze The CPU: Due to a bug in the CPU AI programming, certain canned combos, if blocked or whiffed in a certain way, will cause the CPU character to freeze up completely. You can do to the CPU character as you wish. Here are the moves: Akira - f,f+K,K; CPU must be guarding while standing. Aoi - f,f+K,K; CPU must block first move and crouch under second move. Kage - f+P+K,P+K; CPU must block first move and crouch under second move. Jacky - P,P,f+P,K or f+P,K; CPU must block elbow and crouch under kick. Jeffry - b+K,P; CPU must block first move and crouch under second move. Lau - df+K,f+P; CPU must block first move and crouch under second move. Lion - df+P,P; CPU must block first move and crouch under second move. Pai - uf+K,K; CPU must be guarding while standing. Sarah - df+K,K; CPU must block first move and crouch under second move. Shun - d,df+P,P; CPU must block first move and crouch under second move. Taka-arashi - f,f+P,P; CPU must block first move and crouch under second move. Wolf cannot freeze the CPU. * The Warp Bug: This will only work on the 1P (left) side and only with characters that can cancel their high kicks. While an opponent is airborne during a throw or during a float or bouncing on the ground, cancel a high kick and press G+E immediately afterwards. If timed correctly they will be frozen, completely unable to move, standing up or lying down. Works on the CPU and in vs mode alike. VF3tb arcade and Dreamcast VF3tb -------------------------------- Essentially the same as with OB * except the freeze and warp bugs have been removed. However, there are some occasions when the CPU goes brain dead and will fall to certain repeated patterns, but this is very, very random. VF4 - Playstation 2 ------------------- All characters can depend on low punch -> throw to cheese CPU to death. However, you must rotate their throws correctly. The maximum amount of times you can do the same throw is 3 per match. Of course, there are exceptions when CPU will escape your throw attempts straight off the bat. Note: All charge attacks must be fully charged for any cheese tactics to work. * Playing as Akira: Fully charge his b,f+p+k attack. This is a guaranteed attack against CPU. After this, follow up with a standing palm. Depending on your stance, you can follow up with either a AS3 (down attack as well) or a DJK. Repeat. * Playing as Pai: Her charge attack also is a guaranteed hit when fully charged. If you do her suprise exchange, you will get a guaranteed K,K attack, followed by a down attack. * Playing as Lau: Do his charge attack. Follow up with a single palm while opponent is still in the air. After the single palm, combos will vary depending on stance. Recommended follow ups after the single palm are: a) low punch -> upknife -> super knife b) standing punch -> b+P,P * Playing as Wolf: Do his charge attack...follow up with a knee to float, and then combo of your choice. Do lots of low punches -> throw against CPU. * Playing as Kage: Enter into jumonji stance. Do his P+K jumonji sabaki attack immediately. CPU will almost always eat the sabaki attack and enter KD state. Follow up with a combo of your choice. * Playing as Sarah: Go into her flamingo stance by doing df+P+K...after that press K,K,K. The first two hits will almost always hit CPU while they will always guard the third one. Even if the first two miss, the CPU will guard as it is special high. After doing the third K, immediately press b and start again. She can also cheese the CPU to death by doing her rising double knee. While the CPU will guard the first one...if you time it well, the second one will almost always hit CPU. * Playing as Jacky: After his trip hammer, dash ahead and immediately do his SS. CPU's rising attack will whiff, allowing Jacky to punish with his iai or SS moves. If you're in danger, beatknuckle -> spin kick is a good move against characters with no reversals or inashi moves.
