Pai entered the 4th World Fighting Tournament out of great concern for her ailing father, Lau. However, she was eliminated from the tournament and had to leave before she could face him. She never had a chance to see what condition he was in.

Shortly after the tournament, Pai had a chance encounter with a cleric affiliated with the Shaolin temple and learned that her father was training a young monk. Questions raced through her mind. What made Lau, who had always stood by his principle of not taking any apprentices, change his mind? More importantly, did it have something to do with the illness he was suffering?

Following clues left by the cleric during their conversation, Pai set off in search of Lau. She was not prepared for what she saw. Lau, bloodied and grimacing with pain, was hunched over and a man dressed in monks’ robes, poised as if to inflict a killing blow was standing over him. It was Lei-Fei.

Her reflexes taking over, Pai lept to her father’s defense. Caught off-guard, Lei-Fei was forced to flee and though Pai gave chase, she lost him. When she returned, Lau had gone. But it wasn’t Lau’s disappearance that bothered her. It was his state of health that shocked her the most. She saw how the disease had been taking its toll. Now realizing her father may have little time left, Pai looked up to the sky and shut her eyes tightly, stifling her tears.

Pai knew that there was little she could do for Lau now except respect how he had earnestly lived his life in the pursuit of true strength. Hearing that Lau had entered the 5th World Fighting Tournament and compelled to see her father fight for what might be the final time, Pai decided to enter also. She believed she could show just how much she loved her father with her stout-heartedness and innocent charm in the tournament.
