What do you get when you cross a 3D printer, robotics and Virtua Fighter's Akira?

This project was inspired by the release of the Akira Yuki figurine by Figma this year. After gathering references, 3D modelling was done using the Metasequoia program. The parts were printed using the Afinia 279 3D printer.

"Pla wrestler Akira" was born. "Pla" being short for "plastic model."

Neutral stance with breathing motion, and 1-2 punch animations were done.

The plastic parts were attached to a home made robot named "Automo 8." This robot was used in the ROBO-ONE robot fighting tournament. Highest placing was 2nd place.

The Akira robot is about 50cm tall. The 1/30 scale Gundam is 60cm.

This Akira robot is the prototype for the next robot being built to be entered in the Real Pla Wrestling Tournament in August 2017. Unfortunately it will not be entered using these Akira parts. It's an experiment to see if the creator can create a martial arts gi using solid material instead of cloth.

The model "JuuOhMaru" from 1982 anime "Pla Wrestling Sanshiro" is well known, but the creator is looking at replicating the model "Jasta" created by the main character's father.
