    "VF4 on the PS2??? ack ack...so...little power....jaggies...it's gonna suck!"

I keep reading this. Over and over. And I can't understand it.
Read the article posted for this announcement. It clearly says that the game is being developed from the bottom up and that it's being done with Yu Suzuki. Let me say his name again. Yu Suzuki! Please, name a game this man has made that was not beautiful and a whack of fun to play. He is widely considered to be the most successful and creative game producer ever.

Why has happened to the faith we have in AM2's ability to give us a great VF4!??!

The early releases of games on the PS2 had trouble with anti-aliasing. Jaggies were present and many of the screenshots left a bad taste in your mouth. However, do you honestly think that this will be an ongoing problem? From what I've read, developers are learning more on how to program well with the PS2. Come on, it's a pretty powerful system - a lot more power than Naomi2 that's for sure. Give these guys at AM2 some credit, sheesh!

I have faith in the developers at AM2. I'm confident to think that their ability to program great looking games with fantastic gameplay is stellar - regardless of the system the game is on. Making, not porting, VF4 for the PS2 is a good thing. We should be happy that we're going to get a console version at all - the DC would likely have a bitch of a time running a port of VF4. Sure, I would have rather seen the announcement made for the XBox but who knows, that may change. The word 'exclusive' has been used many times in the gaming industry and rarely is the promise kept. Heck, DOA2 is a great example.

I'm looking forward to VF4 and will embrace it when it gets here. PS2, Atari, Intellivision, XBox - *I* don't care - I just want to play VF.

    cheers,

I made the exact same point in a conversation I had earlier today with my VF sparring friend.

The fact is, AM2 is still AM2, Yu Suzuki is still himself, and I'm willing to risk my word on VF4 being a great game - there's no development house in business today that deserves more respect than those people. I'm just glad I'll be able to play it, the way it was meant to be played by the designers - no ends cut, no expenses spared.

    cheers,
    M.

What's wrong with them is they are like most hardcore gamers they are biased.

Define "hardcore gamer"; I don't equate enthusiasm for a particular activity with childish brand loyalty - or bias. Gaming is about the games, after all, or isn't it? For me, at least, that's the way it is.

I love Sega games, and Sega consoles because of the games I play on them. All other considerations (corporate attitude, etc.) are secondary, however present to some extent. Conversely, I couldn't care less about the Playstation 2, because there are presently no games on it that would interest me enough to justify a purchase. Of course, with yesterday's events, my perspective has shifted a bit - I'd definitely buy a console just to play VF, but that's just me. I appreciate AM2's work regardless of where it's at.

Then again, this is a tired topic, with too many subjective points to warrant an objective enough conversation.

    cheers,
    M.

Ideally hardcore gamers should not be biased but the truth of the matter is many of them are. My defination of hardcore is someone who dedicates a large part of his time and money towards the noble pursuit of game playing. First and foremost it should be about the games but everyone has some kind of bias whether it be against a company or a particular genre of videogame. Bias is inescapable. I personally am hardcore or consider myself so. Hell I play Karate Champ hardcore but If I had to give a review of a racing game it would be bias as I dont enjoy them and fiond most of them boring I dont even like Gran Turismo.

Karate Champ... those were the days :) I still have fond memories of that two-stick configuration.

Don't forget -- Model 2 and 3 games were programmed entirely in assembly. If there are any beast assembly programmers, Yu Suzuki and AM2 are it.

What does Playstation 2 hardware work best from? That's right guys, assembly.

I am extremely confident VF4 would be visually sound on the PS2. As good as Naomi 2? Maybe, maybe not (I'm of the opinion it's not), but I think it'll be good enough.
