2D fighters of the past.

Lately i've had a resurgance in 2D fighters, mainly thanks to the great Marvel vs Capcom 2. Anyway it inspired me to play some of the old great fighters I knew and loved when I was growing up, notably the neo-geo 2D fighter version Double Dragon. Although not my absolute favorite, the times I had playing Jimmy and Billy at my local fish'n'chip shop were so great I thought Id see what other old 2d fighters everyone else was into a few years back. My personal favourite is X-men vs Street Fighter, but I also the loved the original street fighter and fatal fury series( although I have to admit I just played King of fighters 2002 for the first the other day and I have to say It rocked!)So guys what your personal favourites?

 

MK definitely. MK1 and Trilogy rule. I was able to place second axe in Nightwolf's lk,hp,hp,lp,d,f+hp and sometimes even add an extra b,d,lp arrow after that. Yep, those were the days. Ha ha haa, outstanding.

 

Loved up to mk3 but after that the series went on a major downhill. MK4 is still one of the worse fighters ive ever played.

 

Midway is coming out with an arcade greatest hits 2 with the original MK and MK2 along with some other games but I forgot the release date though. Favorite old school 2d figthers would be SF2 Turbo, SF Alpha 3 and DBZ 2.

 

I always had a thing 4 killer instinct in a BIG way. Played that to death, knew all the combos, glitches, death moves, infinite's, and Orchid's death move (Ahhhhhhhhhhh, that's better!)

I played... Talon was the greatest. Blizzard was the other char I played. Sometimes I used the T-rex, Sauron I think the name was.

And Primal Rage, this game rocked eating and stepping on inoccent people while fighting never was so much fun, especially when you where a 40 feet snake.

Anyways, My faves in 2D fighter from back in the day were, SF Turbo Edition and MK2.

Aside from that I've always liked 3rd games a bit more , Battle Arena Toshinden, Tekken, Soul Blade (not much of a fan of SC)

Oh and yeah, Primal Rage- that was a lot of fun- although the inputs were kind of weird. I used the little armoured guy, forget his name, and Sauron. But man, in that game, I think Talon was like god-tier.

i've seen some clips of CVS 2 Chaos. it looks pretty kick ass, and has lots of characters i haven't seen in a while. like Genjuro! he was my man in the SS series. speaking of which, to all the Samurai Showdown fans out there, who's your fav character?

and Primal Rage was fun. my characters were Diablo and Vertigo. and is it just me or was the "last boss" a total ripoff?

 

My all time favorite 2D fighter is Art of Fighting 3. The only downfall in that game is allot of the new characters they put in it. some of them are retarded.

 

Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat 2 were my favorites.

 

there's always this cliched karate master, starring as the main character, in almost every 2d fighter.
