Andy Geezer proves that VF5(J) can work in US more

Discussion in 'Arcade' started by TechnicalMonkey, Aug 23, 2010.

  1. Hi,

It's been a while that I have posted any thing on this site. I wasn't certain that I should post information I came across. If there was a similar post on this, and this post is unnecessary, let me know. I will take down post/ask to remove as soon as possible.

Today I was visiting a site from the UK that I used to visit often during the days of VF4:FT. The site titled Andy Geezer Services, of which some of you guys are already familiar with. It turns out that he has come across the proper method of booting Lindbergh with Japanese VF5 units. On his blog he goes into some detail on how the process works.

The bottom line is you need a DHCP server running. Please go to: http://triplemoonstar.brinkster.net/theshed/blog/

I was certain that there had to be failsafes for situations without ALL.NET as it would prove too costly if anything were to go wrong. This proof of concept was on VF5 ver. C. Other than the fact that VF5 is rental only for the most part VF5:FS in theory should work outside of Japan.

Please post follow up questions and visit this great site.

    Thanks

We would have more of a chance of capturing Homestay and holding him at ransom.

There was a vf5R disk on ebay, right? I wonder if it's in use right now.

That version of VF5R didn't come with a IC chip.

It's too bad that you guys didn't get it. It might have been possible to get it to work with the chip if pursuaded. Check the link below. It list all of the games that have been copied over to Compact Flash for the Naomi-2/GD-ROM games.

Note this line: "Remember original key chip will be required, if your missing/have damaged key chip, then we might be able to help."

    Hi Guys.

Virtua Fighter 5 Rev B is USA/Export Lindbergh only - doesn't work on Japan Lindbergh

This version is standalone - doesn't require any network or anything else.

Virtua Fighter 5 Rev A,C,D,E, VF5R,VF5R Rev A, VF5R Rev B, VF5 Final Showdown are all Rental equipment from Sega Japan - Keychip is the property of Sega Japan.

All will work outside of Japan if you have the correct keychip and fool it with a DHCP server.

According to my sources Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown will be the last Virtua Fighter game produced by Sega.

Also House of the Dead series is also ended.

AM2 is no more, Sega will probably just end up producing quiz/puzzle/horse racing and other obscure japan stuff.

Only 2 videos are for release this year in the UK from Sega and they are

The GriD Arcade Edition - Codemasters/SegaUK
Let's Go Island - Sega Japan

Awful if that's true, the end of VF and all of Sega's arcade game series. They seem to have moved further and further away from making their own games since the Dreamcast died.

Sadly Sega is a poor company now, all there last arcade projects where outsourced.. Rambo, Hummer etc.

There is no AM1,AM2, AM3 etc anymore.. Most there developers either retired or moved elsewhere. I'd rather they end the true games on a high, than trying to get some other developers to-do sequels.

AM2 will be remembered as one of the best arcade developing teams in the world of all-time and Mr Yu Suzuki will be a legend forever..

I know im going to regret posting here, but here it goes, trolls get ready....now!!!

Sega is a poor company now? bollocks, sega posted positive results for the first time in what? 15 years?

sega is in better financial shape now than it was at the time of the DC for sure. they going to pull out of the arcades? then the arcades are dead in japan too! AFAIK sega is the biggest arcade owner in japan.

but then, even if arcade dies, then who is to say that VF dies too? they made HOTD overkill, and its as good as any arcade release. they made REZ, Skyes of Arcadia, shenmue, yakuza, sega rally revo, produced bayonetta, vanquish, resonance of fate. sega has to move away from arcades to survive? ok, fine, no big deal.

BTW, before you start flaming me, you guys played Yakuza 1/2? or resonance of fate? I like those games a lot, im glad Sega made them happen.

So I guess all their arcades in Japan will just hosts other companies' games ? If so, five years from now there won't be any new Sega games in Sega arcades . Sad. They had a good run, I've been playing Sega games since Zaxxon. I was lucky enough to be able to see their begging and obstensibly, their end. Wow. Hearing that news is like hearing my best friend died.

I don't know about the console side of thing, I am talking about Sega Amusements..

You'll also a know a lot of factorys have closed in Japan that did a lot of spares for Sega Logistics, both Sega US/UK Amusements are both very poor organisations.

HOTD Overkill isn't part of the House of the dead series, it's a spin-off, same with AnswerXAnswer HOTD which is a quiz game (also a Rental game BTW).

I am guessing Sega will be like Electronic Arts, a publish for 3rd party companies, games like Sega Rally Revo, Bayonetta etc are not done by Sega as a company, just mearly distrubted by them.

Resonance of Fate didn't tickle my fancy. I have Yakuza, that game is alright. Not groundbreaking by any means, fairly good representation of certain places. As good as it can get on a console.

Ummm Shenmue 1/2 were done by AM2. So if most of AM2 is gone , we won't see the like of Shenmue again. BTW yeah I played Yakuza 1 ,2, and 3. All great games. I need to do a second run of Yakuza 1, I missed learning a lot of moves the 1st time through. Trying to Platinum Yakuza 3 now.

It is quite striking that during the worst economic crisis in recent memory Sega actually posted positive results!

If I am not mistaken, both Capcom and Nintendo (I think also Namco, Square and Konami?) did worse in the past year or 2 compared to before.

Obviously arcades are dying in Japan, maybe being replaced by pachinko parlors and DDR type games? I am not sure, I havent been in Japan for 3 years now.

Anyway, Capcom oursorced a lot of stuff to american makers, Sega did the same with HOTD and VT and even the console version of Outrun. all good games IMO. Nintendo gave metroid to non-nintendo creators ages ago. Metroid seems to be still good?

To conclude, I am just pointing out that all this doom and gloom about Sega future seems to me (personal opinion) the worry of an hardcore gamer so set in the old days that cant see a future forward. I love sticks too! Sanwa and Seimitsu tickle the autistic boy in every grown up (every SF2 kid maybe?).

Hey it could be worse! Sega could be making worse things than producing games like vanquish and bayonetta!

You people reacted with doom and gloom when Street Fighter X Tekken was announced . VFDC was about the only place in the universe pessimistic about such an awesome game. I'm stoked for SF X T, it looks exactly how I wanted/expected MVC3 to look.

I guess I am pessimistic about SFXT because I got bored about the whole VS games ages ago. I enjoyed the saturn games and the first DC game, but then the serie lost me completely.

One thing to be positive about! maybe (maybe!!) capcom wont recycle morrigan sprites again!!! (but you never know, Capcom might recycle it once more, cant be that bad right? lol)

Turning a profit once in a while does not make a company rich. Sega is a lot poorer than it used to be. They've also been downsizing for years and just don't have the talent in house to pump out amazing stuff like they used to.

And you're confusing producing with publishing. Platinum games is an independant software company. Sega publish their games. Vanquish is the last game in the 4 game deal Platinum signed with sega i think.

edit: Marly, I think you I am confusing producing with publishing.

I think Sega is in charge of the promotion and the overall selling of platinum games, stuff like paying for famitsu to give bayonetta a perfect score and the sexy advertizing in the underground.

So being a huge company that bleeds money is better than a smaller company that turns a profit? i dont understand.
