Any other martial artists out here?e

Discussion in 'General' started by DrunkenMaster08, May 7, 2008.

  1. Just wondering if anybody else studied martial arts. I myself have been a student of Seven Star Praying Mantis of Indianapolis for about 4 years.

But as I am about to go to college, I will be taking JKD with one of Dan Inosanto's only students, Jack McVicker.

So, shout out if you are a fellow martial artist

I've been taking Gojukai with Yamaguchi Sensei (one of the best instructors I've ever had in any subject) this semester at SFSU.

Probably the only interesting class I've had in a long time.

I have studied TaeKwonDo for 15 years now and Modern Arnis for about 6 years. I have done a little Aikido, Boxing, and Muay Thai. Currently I am thinking of trying MMA, not for competition just to make myself a little more well rounded as a fighter, just having trouble finding the right gym.

  4. Very nice, I have always thought about trying mma, but I could never give up my love for kung fu.

I always had this feeling that most VF players have, at one time or another, practiced some form of Martial Arts... I wonder how true that is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

I did Shotokan Karate as a kid for about three years (12-15) and I've been studying Muay Thai off and on for about five.

Sorry; I just started reading up on it just a week ago myself.

The "wizardry" was in reference to something else. Something so great, it's sticking with me for so long.

    ----on topic----

I plan to take judo next semester; any advice?

A mixer of WingChun, Bajiquan, and Taekwondo. There are other moves from different styles is applied as well. I've been lazy ever since I've stopped going to martial arts school. I mainly went their to test myself in sparring or beyond that. I'm not a traditional individual for spiritual enlightened or whatever. I merely fight out of lust. Aside from Taekwondo school, the rest was self taught. My saying is that martial arts isn't much without opponents.

I will go back someday, despite that I don't like teachers.

I did Shotokan Karate for 4 years soooome time ago. Then it was Taekwondo for about 3 years. I wanted to go back to it, after a year of laziness, but it's hard due to my work and some health problems. I should be able to start training again somewhere around the begining of June /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I've done some research on MA schools in my city, but there are mostly taekwondo, karate, mma, BJJ, and boxing schools. There are also some that teach: Muay Thai, Taiji quan, Judo, and some more styles, but unftunately, there is no way I'd find Praying Mantis school or Baji quan school here. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Whatever, Taekwondo is great and I am happy to have picked up such a martial art.

    @Sebo
Don't worry, you can't go in costume E, but no one said anything about mixed costume... like cos B top, cos E bottom /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I learned Koga-Ryu-Ninjitsu at my local YMCA for a while, about 10 years of practice. Loved it but I haven't been able to find another school of it outside of NYC. That's why i love kage so much, I know how to do some of his throws and his jumanji stance is a real stance in what is often called the Tai-chi of ninjitsu which is the last ninja art form with an actual ninja decedent teaching it. Which I also practiced for 2 years.

Learn your ukemi, relax, don't stiff arm, don't try to win at all costs, don't try to "win" randori, don't grab the legs from the start, LEARN YOUR UKEMI, work hard, stay safe, have fun!

    Oh wait... Starting next semester?

Enjoy your breakfall classes for the next ~2 months then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif !

It's not the last Ninja art form. I've studied Bujinkan Nin-Jutsu as taught by Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi (34th Grandmaster of the Bujinkan) for 7 years. There are lots more forms other than Jumonji no Kamae from the Gyokku-Ryu school of Nin-Jutsu.

Capoeira, and MMA. I did a little Kung Fu but really didn't
get into all the "become chinese" shit. Kung Fu people seem
to think they need to go around wearing china clothes all the
    time. (Least around here.)

I may be focusing a bit more on Muay Thai and Jujitsu soon.

I was stationed at Fort bragg Nc and I was recently deployed to afgahnistan, Of course we learned military hand to hand combat which I didn't think was an true art at first until My master Sgt Actually demonstrated it. But besides that The army also Started Fusing Judo Techniques To complement all the strikes and disabling move that Our military style gave us. We learned mostly the throws because most of the submissions( we were told) would be too hard to master in a short time and would clash with the military disabling holds SO after four years I still have no idea what to call a blend of military style with judo throws but it's all I know. I just hate that since I got out I don't know of any judo schools so I can futher my knowledge beyond about 20 throws I mastered.
