    Hey guys,
I'm suffering in this issue as well. [IMG]
Can anyone recommend a good brand USB extension adapter?
I would like to use it for my VSHG stick and probably needs about 2 feet long. Thanks~~

Not all of them work... some of them produce some lag. I remember when the NYC guys use to go to this place called NYClan to play on PS3, we used VSHG but they had such a short cord we needed extension cables.

I remember we ran into a problem where one of the cables was producing input lag. After trial and error with a few we had some that worked fine. I think Monti or Cruz were the ones who had the right cables.

I think I may have one that works... if I can locate it I'll try to look up the model type / number.

How is this even possible? How can a wire have THAT much resistance? I wasn't there and I have difficulty believing this.

    Plague,
I thought it was ridiculous when the first time Joey told me, but after couple hours matches with him, I was pretty sure something was wrong from my side. At first time I thought the lag was caused by my internet(apparently it was), but after changing the IP setup, I believed my connection with Joey was fair enough and he agreed with it too. However, he told me that he saw my action was actually slow a little bit. I was confused and didn't know why, but finally I figured out that there was something wrong with my USB extension. I tested on Quest and Dojo and realized that every time when I input 33 or 44 something like these double inputs, I could easily see I was in a bit slower than usual. WTF is that??!!??
Well, I did change another USB extension right after and I can feel it's much better than the previous one. But the thing is that I still can't 100% to be used to it.... I don't know is that possible I am not familiar with my new TV?? Haha~ I totally have no idea dude...
I just get the third USB from my friend but I can't obviously tell anything improved. Plague, if you have time please let me know, I really need to test the connection with CA players. Hopefully I can fix all the shit asap.

Dennis, for USB extension cables I think you want the kind that has a USB connector on one end, and a (round) breakout connector on the other end. These cables won't introduce another connector into the line like generic USB extension cables do. And I think it's this additional connector that's causing the "lag", and not the overall length of the cable.

Two products you should check out, and are pretty cheap (under 10 bucks), are:

    1. Intec 6' Xbox controller extension cable
    2. MadCatz 9' Xbox controller extension cable
These will only help if the cable from your joystick can be disconneted at the breakout connector, i.e. before the USB connector. Most official products can.

Myke, I don't understand the mode you mentioned above. Do you mean something like this?

I can't find the specific type on your suggestions. Btw, I'm using VSHG which means I only need USB port to extend, not a XBOX360 controller.

For reference, this is what I'm talking about: Intec 8605 Controller Extension Cable for XBOX 360

Which is the same as the two cables at the top of your link's image. They have this round breakout connector that I'm talking about.

But since you're using a modded VSHG, then I don't think your cable has this breakout connector, so it won't help you. Most official Xbox360 controllers have this. My EX2 joystick has it for example.

I see. Well the extension cable that Im using has the standard flat USB female connector on one end, and a male connector on the other end. There are no extra ports in it, so it can only be used to extend exactly one USB port. Is this what you are talking about?

If you guys were talking about using some USB HUB with an extension cable on it, Id understand your talk about lag.

I have a similar cable, it works fine from what I can tell.

I did one quick search on USB extensions causing lag. I didn't see much. Some people recommend an extension with a signal repeater. I think THAT would cause lag. Other than that, too long a wire (or a wire of crap quality) would result in signal degradation. That would manifest as a non-input rather than input lag.

USB male/female connections don't perform any data processing or encode/decode functions. They are physical metal to metal contacts. I can't see them causing any kind of lag.

I'm afraid of these things now, because I think the USB extension is part of what wore out the inner wire workings of my custom. And I had to get it fixed, havent used the extension since.

Today I get a final USB extension and I believe it works cool~ Totally I have tested 4 extension cables and there is one is REALLY bad. The rest of them are pretty similar but I still decide to use the specific one which I think it's the best.
Maybe I'm that bad luck person so this shit happened to me. How come a extension could cause lag??@@??

The proprietary addition to the standard might be where the problem lies. While scim reading the Wiki, I read that standard “USB ports can provide up to 500mA of current (2.5 watts of power),” While the powered usb can provide over 10x the current at higher voltages.

Just guessing; if an extension doesn’t have the extra power lines, then time taken for the joystick’s internal capacitors to reach the necessay charge would be longer and possibly introduce some form of circuit lag.

Well I miss understood the USB Wiki; powered USB cables aren’t exactly USB cables as the Wiki half implied. Powered USB cables.

I should have probably searched a little longer for a USB powered product before posting.

It is still possible that a USB extender is causing a loss of power to the joystick (though now unlikely), but assuming it has all the necessary lines, it is probably just unshielded cabling or poor quality fittings that are introducing noise to the bus.

I guess the easiest way to check the power loss issue, would be if someone with a known laggy extender, checked the voltages inside the stick, with and without the extender to see if there was any difference.

Yeah I totally agree with what Plague is saying... I just don't see why wire to wire (female to male) cables would cause any kind of lag, but for what ever reason it did happen to us when we were playing VF at NYClan. I wouldn't be surprise if it's exactly as mentioned... just really shitty low quality wires. I don't remember the exact cost, but I do remember that the USB that did work did cost almost twice as much as the one that didn't.

Any way I am glad you found one that works... congrats!
