today was very funny for me, I wanted to challenge a 7th degree sarah with my akira, but when I pressed up with my joystick I already pressed the button and I got Sarah. the problem is I never evr played sarah in my life. nothing against sexes, but I just hate to play a girl. but oh well I had no chance to fight. so what happens is I fight against a sarah that has won 2700+ matches won and something of 1200 loses. so not the best sarah in the world, but still a 7 th degree. and my experience with sarah is absolutly zero. so I played sarah how I play Akira. and the funny thing is I won the fight, yes I won it, I could really not belive it. i just press buttons like insane and I had a feeling like this fight will always be lost so I had zero pressure. i won the match 3-1. after the fight I was really shocked. I had something like, can somebody pinch me. I beat his sarahwith my Sarah, which I had never ever used. after it there came a jacky which totally kicked my ass, but that is another story, still it was funny. maybe I should show more of my girlie side and play sarah instead haha.

I am a lousy 4th degree Akira haha. granted I played Lau a lot. he is my second charachter I always use. still I really had no idea some of the moves I pulled of. just as I said it was all cheer luck. only the switching like up up or down down is the same as with every charachter, that is all.

some VF knowledge works well across different characters.
I told a lion-using friend to switch to akira and pretend fff+P was lion's ff+P, and pretend df+PK was lion's b,df+P. And also to do modified shoulder rams in place of modified uppercuts.
And to end combos with ff+K,K just like lion /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

    I think it'll work.

Well, people are talking about the ranks in Japanese Arcades, not kumite mode.

I was in Japan last week and played VF a bit. I found that some people (who are as good as me in the spring) stopped using cards. Maybe, it's because they wanna save it in order ro get items for EVO?? (Or, to slaughter beginner and intermediate, hiding their ranks? Actually, I do the latter a lot just to have fun.) Although GP may hate this, I used two of my old wolf cards, 6 and 8th dans (about 77% winning rate). (This is not to deceive others, but I thought I lost the lod card and had to buy a new one.) Since most of people have the same rank now are lower-ranked in the Spring, the same rank matches were so easy for me. (some of them had solid 8th dans, but most of them are not and it seemed that their ranks got higher because the average ranks got higher. I'm sure the same rank in Tokyo is stronger.) What's bad is that after they lose once with the card, they never came back with their cards again. What's the point of being afraid of demotion when Evo is coming out soon and the VF4 cards won't mean a thing?

In general, it was fun to play against a variety of people there. I get to try out some characters which I learned how to use after I cam back here in May. It was only for 5 days, and it was kind of short. I wish I could have had a little more time.

Hehe -- serves ya right. That'll teach ya to 'cheat'. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif
Anyways, I don't think it's really city to city, but more like game center to game center in terms of how much weight a dan carries. There are plenty for 3-dan & 4-dan's that have taught me a thing or two at Sega Hightechland, whereas even if I lose to someone at that rank at Shibuya Gigo or Club Sega (just down the street -- LITERALLY) it'll be an extremely close match, and usually a fluke.
