I've noticed that most high level VF players have mastered the combos that deal great damage while their opponent is in the air, and that most of the damage points in the match are a result of those kind of combos.

I am curious are there other types of combos ,sequences, or techniques that can be used to consistently win matches?

In other words if there were no floaters in VF how would high level players play?

    You wouldn't see risky launchers?

this is a very anti-tekken thread.

Without floaters, you'd simply see more of the other stuff:
Throws, staggers, wall splats, guaranteed strings, etc.

Yeah, it does seem like the OP has played Tekken a bit too much recently.

So you don't think it would fundamentally change the game?

e.g make matches longer, players less aggressive, or more risky?
would no floaters would players take more unsafe moves?

Just curious? Looking at all the youtube stuff I'm noticing that the top shelf players have among other things an exceptional float game. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

I could see longer matches, but people would just be looking for the next big damage setup. Floaters aren't safe anyway.

The biggest problem is that floating balances the game out. Characters who derive all their damage from floating would have to be reworked to keep balance, or they'd just build in another excuse to allow multiple hits. If not floats then "extended staggers" or something like that. Without floats you'd have SF2 with no projectiles. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Yea, but the big damage setup without floaters would cause more players to go for reversals right? Once you're on the receiving end of a floater at the hands of a top level player not much you can do [little buffering maybe] but wait til its over.

No floating seems like it would really change the dynamics of VF.
You're right though, I guess throws, and guaranteed strings would
    quickly take over. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Akira has SPoD. It only works if opponent is on his feet. There are also crumplestun combos and throw setups..

But once the jugglin has started, there is no juggle escape right?
You either have to hope the high level player doesn't remember the whole sequence (which is probably not the case) or you just have to wait until its over. A good juggle seems worse that hit stun.

You would see the art of what i love "Breaking a Nucca Down"
Only a few players posess this ability.

What i mean by this is these are opponents that once they get into a groove it feels like they are hitting you from every angle and you can do anything about it. It like you find yourself just losing energy from Tap moves that are done with precision (Meaning without risking a launcher just for big damage and using a power finishers. It seems as if they flow charts are infintes lol!)

This is what i love to see most.

I think he means air control, just like soul calibur 3 (and maybe 4, dunno, i haven't touched the game yet) where you can influence the direction of your float trajectory by holding a direction on the pad?

Yea, I know there are no juggle escapes in VF. That's kind-a-my-point. There is a defensive move in VF for just about everything. Then there are reversals, sabakis, inashis, for many situations. But once the jugglin has started the fighter that is being juggled can only wait until the juggle is over /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

If you're playing against a high level player that means he/she is going to get off 2 or 3 more hits B4 you can do anything.

I'm just wondering whether a 'Juggle Break' /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif move
would add to the game or take away from the game.

Yea, I think they have something like that in SC IV although
I very very very cautious of making the comparison between SC IV and VF! They are very different. IMHO SCIV is for more casual
    play /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

C-C-C-C-C-Combo breakers from Killer Instinct comes to mind. They also exist in the newest MK that's out.
