1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

Is it worth picking up for a brand new VF player?

It's a surprisingly decent (good) guide, to be honest. Especially for a brand new VF player.

I'll admit I picked it up initially for collector reasons and I sort of scoffed at the guide. But after going through it, I think it's quite good for beginners.

I think it is worth it for sure... It has a TON of information. Not all of the strategy stuff is totally accurate (according to what I've heard on this forum) but I think it is certainly worth the $15 dollars no doubt about it. Plus the basics section is very thorough and there is a very useful glossary in the front too. I also use it to look up throw escapes for throws that get me a lot. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to get better at VF5 but it's even better for a beginner. I read the whole thing cover to cover just for fun, I really like the Brady Games guide a lot.

I've been thinking about whether to pick this up or not.

    What does it specifically have?

Is it better than the information that's on this site? The stuff here is very informative and comprehensive, IMO.

If you are new to VF5, then it is definitely a good read. Even more so if you are completely new to the Virtua Fighter series.

For those familiar with the series VF1-4, the tips/strategy section for the new moves should give you some introductory insight on how to implement them in matches. Also useful are the Eileen and El Blaze sections, as they are new to VF5.

For those totally new to the series, the guide does a great job in the VF Glossary section, explaining commonly used VF terms such as Major Counter, Frame Advantage/Disadvantage, OM, DM etc. A short introduction for each character summarises their core strengths and weaknesses, useful in guiding those who are not sure which first character to use.

And having the command list ready by your side is always handy.

Frame data is not included. This is the area where sites like VFDC and HK.VFNet shine. You can find detailed info in these sites.

Another thing that is lacking is that they do not show the images of the items, though again you can refer to other sites to view them.

Just check your local gamestop or EB. This site is obviously more comprehensive, but the book does have its uses, you can't take the internet everywhere, like for example: the shitter.

Apart from that I wrote a somewhat nice coverage in a nutshell about the BradyGames in the Xbox 360 FAQ post.
