can someone explain to me Tekken wake-ups?

my biggest gripe with Tekken is the wake-up/floor/wall game

I seem to spend half my matches floored... trying to wake up gets me comboed, staying down gets me tick hitted.... floored next wo walls leed to me being lifted off the groad into wall into full wall slam animation and yadadada

soo...how the hell do you effectively, safely wake up in this game withou getting half your energy bar going out while floored?

Not to turn this into a Tekken vs VF thread, but the logicalness escapes me

From what some people tell me it's better to just take the few hits on the ground and wake up normally. Oh and move alot so you never end up near a wall. I don't know, Tekken is kind of weird to me.

Guess either sideroll, backroll, stay still, or rising mid/low/low heel kick and cross your fingers works for me, 10% of the time.

Oki is the #1 reason why I always give up on Tekken after picking it up again.

Ask at Zaibatsu, get flamed, and don't get your question answered (ever) is a suggestion.

I'm almost afraid to enter the Zaibatsu, thanks for the tips though

Well, if you want, you can try what I do when I play Tekken.

    1. Stop playing Tekken.

    2. Continue playing VF.

It usually does the trick. Fixes the horrible movement, horrible Okizeme, broken characters, etc...

I have the same issues and have so far given up on tekken aside from playing casually.

I used to play tekken pretty seriously though I used asuka who was considered lowest tier because she didn't have czy air combos *grr to air combos* I digress, so what I would do is quickroll kind of like what we have in VF they have also you tap square or x just as you hit the ground and you'll sidestep and get up at the same time, that works almost all the time. If you're still getting pummeled I say take the hits and just get up normally. You also have to learn to differentiate from a combo that they can do to you while you're on the ground and when the combo is over and it's time to really get up. It's tricky, very different game from vf. Long live the champion that started the 3d fighting franchise.

    1. you can simply tech roll by tapping 1 or 3 right when you hit the ground, but beware of tech traps cuz theyre meant to hit techrollers

    2. just lay on the floor, sideroll with d+1, then either roll backwards, forwards, or go for a wakeup kick - this depends on the situation

    3. d+4 while laying on the floor to kick while you're on the ground to make them back off a bit

    4. b+1+2 on floor to do a pounce attack, use it when you think theyre off guard

    5. simply tap up while you're on the ground for your character to get up quickly - works well if you're cornered

if the opponent carries you to the wall theres no way to get out of it so you're gonna have to eat a wall combo.

There are many ways to get up in Tekken, you just gotta know what to use in a given situation

Tricky: Asuka is a solid mid-tier character, having average juggle damage doesnt always define how strong a character is. There are other aspects to it. Jack-5 has piss poor juggle dmg but is very scary when it comes to punishing. Raven does a good chunk of dmg from juggles but is very average when it comes to offense, thus making him lower mid tier.

awesome asuka isn't considered low tier anymore. I remember in t5 she was low teir but I did hear(I stress hear) that in t5DR they nerfed everybody else and more or less left asuka more or less the same so she moved up in tier. I can't wait to see what they changed about her in t6 *drools* I can only wish she'll have the counter ability comparable of aoi.

you have to understand every character's oki games in order to effectively fight against them and generally be successful in tekken.
indeed a lot of the oki game can get pretty crazy in tekken nowadays, but if you're really spending that much time on the floor and not understanding how to manage getting back up safely, then you're probably not playing correctly to begin with and need a more solid grasp of the system.
don't be ridiculous. don't be afraid to ask on zaibatsu. of course there will be asses on every forum site out there, but just post in the strategy help threads and such and you'll get the help you need.

thanks for all the help guys, I decided to just play Tekken casually and not attempt to go online much anymore unless it's with a friend.

Even if you have choices in techrolling, I find their commands to be counter-intuitive. Make's Tekken's system way more difficult to master IMO than VF's logical system.

I agree wholeheartedly. I find VF easy to get to grips with because everything makes sense. The same, IMHO, can't be said for Tekken.

I never got why people had the preconceived notion that VF is "oh so difficult" to learn. I find it much easier to learn than Tekken. =/

I agree with that. Tekken just has that "oh look I did something that looked cool" while in VF you have to know what you're doing to make something look really cool, Which is why I like the game.

Some of you may not like Tekken, and have your reasons for not liking it. But can't you just leave it at that, instead of turning it into a "Tekken sucks because..."

The oki and okizeme game in Tekken is HUGE. If you don't take the time to learn and understand it, then you aren't qualified to really comment on it.

It's like a Tekken player trying VF5 for the first time and has a lot of difficulty understanding the Throw Escape system. How would they be received if they complained about being thrown in a guaranteed throw situation? Then what if they dismissed VF5 by preferring Tekken's "logical" reactionary left or right punch throw escape system?

Not much different to how some of you are coming across here IMO.

I don't blame you that Tekken sucks, because the lack of the balancing, Tekken is more often on okis after juggles. Like Nina has an insane oki after juggle in 5.0, now she doesn't have that in Tekken 5 DR, she's super raped in DR. Virtua Fighter is more advanced than Tekken is, you'll have to master all the basics and techiques, it takes you alot of practice in Virtua Fighter. As for me I liked Virtua Fighter than Tekken, I'm getting better in Virtua Fighter. I'm still trying to master evade throw escape, that one is very hard to do. I always improving my game, and I'm getting better with Sarah, Pai, an Aoi. I love those three girls.

    =Peace=

It's not a Tekken flame thread, it was more of a Tekken wake-up help thread.

Yeah, Tekken is a fun game, but for me personally I find the wake-up game to be too brutal and unforgiving when playing against serious players.

The idea of spending half a round on the floor and against walls, or floored against wall then being lifted from the floor back onto the wall....... that is not fun anymore.

Like I said, I decided that I will only play Tekken with friends and casually.

well what you need to understand is that tekken is about insane combos which don't just end when you hit the ground. You have to know when the combo is over and where you have to roll. Myke is right the oki game in tekken is czy. I've been playing tekken since t3 and actually played it really seriously for a long time, only becuase I had nobody to play vf in that didn't suck. So end of the day in Tekken if u screw up twice in a round against certain chars you've lost the round, and if you screw up near a wall you are dead end of story. It's a much less forgiving game in terms of mistakes. VF you can screw up here and there and the round isn't over for you.
