Countering Grabs

Hi, I'm new to VF5. I did some searching on the forum, but couldnt find anything on counter grabs so sorry if there was already a thread on this. I have been having a hard time countering grabs, is there anything you need to do special, or is it just hard timing. I press p+g everytime they throw but I can never counter it. Thanks.

 

you have to press P+G as well as the last direction of the grab.

forward P+G is the grab is fwdP+G... back P+G is the grab is backP+G etc.

 

You also have a short window to input the escapes anyway.

22 frames for a regular throw, 10 frames for "zero-frame."

The best way to practice escapes is to either:

1) Do an unsafe move that guarantees a throw
2) Do a move that puts you in disadvantage, then evading while in putting escapes (ETE, something I need to work on as well)

I have no advice when it come to breaking throws from "out-of-the-blue" though (can anyone even break throws on reaction?)

 

Are you talking about breaking throws?

If so then you need to input P+G and the last direction of the throw used against you during the escape window. The window for inputing is usually during the execution of throw (which could be 12 or 0 frames) and 10 frames after the fact.

EX:

If Jacky uses his /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif you must input /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif within the time frame.

 

Great thanks. So, I guess you really need to know your opponents throw command list then, not just the animations.
