    from IGN:

August 13, 2003 - Last week Nintendo announced that it had partnered with
Namco to develop a GameCube update to the Donkey Kong series. It was assumed
that the title would be a pure platformer in the tradition of the franchise.
However, IGNcube has learned differently. Here's what we know:
The beginnings of this new Donkey Kong game may trace as far back as the
Dreamcast system. Sonic Team had just released Samba De Amigo, a port of a
successful maraca-based arcade music game, and it immediately became popular
with a niche audience. Designer Shigeru Miyamoto was one of the game's
followers, and he on several occasions spoke highly of it.

On March 10, 2003, Nintendo registered the trademark for Donkey Konga. This,
say sources, is the tentative name for the new title, which dumps its
platformer roots in favor of exploring the music genre.

Donkey Konga is a music title in which gamers play conga drums with Donkey
Kong and friends, allege sources. So far insiders have been unable to tell
us if the game will work with standard GameCube controllers or if players
will need to purchase a separate conga peripheral, but the latter seems more
    likely.

Stay tuned for more on the intriguing project

    News: Game Boy Packaging Changed
    Aug 14th 2003 16:43 by Ash

Nintendo is to change the packaging of Game Boy Advance games to DVD
    packages.
DVD packages are used for all three home consoles and PC games and are now
to be used for Game Boy Advance games.

The packaging will hit Europe and America by Christmas while a study is
going on in Japan to see if they should be used there.

The packaging is not set to change the prices of games.

According to Spong, the new packaging will hit shelves in Europe and the US
in time for this Christmas, with a feasibility study currently underway in
    Japan.

We will have more on this when or if it is announced officialy.

I think the Donkey Konga game was being hinted at on the G-Phoria awards on G4TV. They wouldn't show the screen, but hinted at the name and showed people playing it from behind the monitor so you could only see the controller and player. The controller looked like 2 bongo drums that had 2 small drumsticks attached to. The player would strike the drums in rhythm to the onscreen promps. They did show a hint of the screen, but not enough to see anything recognizable at all. It may not be the same game, but it seems very similar to what you are speaking about.

Does g4 cover any live tournaments? That would be nice to get the U.S. scene going. I called my cable provider and they said they can get me the channel for free on my basic package. I just had to ask for it. Cool huh?

Very cool. They do cover some live tournaments, but so far I have only seen a few Madden 2K3, Halo, and Nascar Thunder(?) tournaments. They also have a daily/weekly show called Arena that has competitions among 2 teams in 3 events (Mechwarrior 4 - Unreal Tournament 2K3 - Random Console Game). If people wrote into them I am sure they would at least consider covering one of the larger VF tournaments. That would have been a nice thing if Jedi/IMF and them could have gotten that as well for FSB. Who knows what the future holds for VF tourney coverage in the US.
