Let's share our experiences here so that fellow VFDCers have it easier to get into this hardcore RPG.

How has your adventure in Dark Souls gone so far? Please share.

Don't use the broken sword on the first boss!

Skeletons in the hub world are much easier than the reviewers made out.

Is it better than Demon's Souls? Not to hate on it but after awhile Demon's Souls turned into a boring grindfest.

I never had to grind at all in Demon's Souls [IMG]

It looks pretty much the same as Demon's Souls apart from a few changes to the system and the graphics, i've read a few reviews that say pretty much the same too.

If you didn't enjoy Demon's Souls you'll probably feel the same about this one.

Yeah the game is tough, but manages to be so addicting at the same time. I'm around 9 hours in and so far I think it's better then the first one. The level design, enemies, weapons and armor, all that seem just a step above Demons Soul. It's definitely not for everyone though, and I can see how a lot of people can't get into it, but I think it's an amazing game.

They're pretty much identical so you can't go wrong with either. The important thing is to get it right now!

The PS3 version can play with Japan and had some bugs(which are fixed now) but, other than that there the same. On the xbox version Tim and me found that we can private chat.

    Personally, there no wrong choice.

Question.. i got this game too and im liking it alot. Im at the undeerlaug place.

How do u level up.. It says required skills 0... Evryone keeps telling me you can level up by collecting souls, but it doesnt tell me how much is required to gain the next level ( says 0 ). I even watched a youtube WALKTHROUGH, and i see his level 2 levels higher than me... ( or maybe its the character class he started off with )

FLUSK i think their called ( RATIONS, energy ), they used to respawn... to 6, but now, it seems like it doesnt regenerate after using them or sleeping at the fire( like it did it in the beginning of the game, i cant even find FLUSK's either, i know in demon souls u can get alot by killing enemies?.) I wanna use my flusk, but im worried if i use it, i will be hard to come by again, i only have 5 left, had 6.

kindle, hollow?? how does that work.

I know i suck at these type of games, but i wanna get through the game with someone in coop. Is it possible to go through the game with COOP or are there restrictions playing with ppl online.

    THNKS.

    1. All the different class's start at diff levels. I'm not sure why it doesn't show the required amount of souls for next level, however after spending 1 point into strength for 200 souls for example after that you will have a good idea of how much the next upgrade will cost. Just kill enemies and they will give you souls to spend on your stats.

    2. In Demons souls you could buy health (herbs) but in dark souls it is now called flasks. Every time you go to the bonfire you get refilled the 5 flasks. If your at a boss and you have 0 flasks left, tough luck...

    3. Kindle means when you go to that particular bonfire you get 10 flasks instead of the usual 5. Reverse Hollow means you turn human again. Both require humanity that you can find from monsters or drops.

    4. As you can see there isn't a full-fledged co-op mode so it will only be a little hard. Basically what you should do is tell your friend to put the summon spot somewhere where no one else would see it and only you know the location. That way it will only be you 2 instead of someone grabbing your friend first.

If you want to summon you have to be human, otherwise if it's the other way around you can't be human. Keep in mind you have to get a bit far into the game and get an item called "white sign soapstone" which is before the first dragon you see.

this site has a lot of great info, about most of the questions you have... check out the "Covenants" section to see just how crazy deep this game gets with an eye towards PvP (although most hardcore fans are saying this version, which uses several different servers for online, instead of one which I guess DeSo did, is ruining the online experience)

There are tough spots for SURE, but usually talking to other players or really minimal poking around online will get you a hint that doesn't feel like it cheapens the experience (IE use firebombs on these monsters if you're having a tough time, the next bonfire is over here etc).

The game is really deep & I love how you can go anywhere pretty much, as long as you can survive.

To Level Up, go to the bonfire, choose "Level Up", pick the stat you want to level and then tap right to see the required souls and the resulting change to your stats; then confirm.

One sort of "secret" that I learned that's obtuse (and actually not in the wiki) is that it seems if you haven't killed the boss in an area, you'll gain humanity just by killing regular monsters, but it's not in item form, your Humanity guage will just tick up without notification. I know for sure this works in the Undead Burg, pre Taurus Demon.

Also, someone said don't use the Broken Sword on the Asylum Demon, but if you do manage to beat him on the first run, with the sword or anything else (cough), you'll get his Hammer as a drop^^

So far, I'm really impressed by Dark Souls' game mechanics and open game world. It's not even the case that you're solely fighting all the time. There's also a huge game world to explore, with many alternative paths that hold more treasures or even greater dangers or something in-between these two.

It's a breeze every time you can overcome one of those enemies in Dark Souls that are 100 times more powerful than you.

I will stick with the cleric for now, and I'm making good progress with him. Hint: If you've got the Master Key go to that Valley of the Drakes or so. There you'll get a neat sword and shield from an alleged dead dragon (he's only faking it). Pick up the sword and shield before the dragon kills you. While you can keep that equipment, you'll lose all your souls, and it's very unlikely you can get away from that dragon alive any time soon. So spend your souls before trying that.

Leonard/Feck, I killed that badass beast we were talking about earlier in the shoutbox where he kills us in 1 shot and it was the locked door before the first taurus boss. He drops a GG ring, well worth the work. [IMG]

Can literally kill him without getting hit once. The trick is to always lock on him and strafe in 1 direction. ALWAYS go for the backstab unless he has a tiny sliver left and then you can go ahead and do a normal move to finish that beefy beast off. It might be tempting to hit him as he's getting up from the backstab but as you know his attack is dangerous so better to not take any risks.

Sweet! I will try that. It's easy to escape him and run downstairs to that new area that I haven't explored yet but killing him is a whole different thing. I'll try your strategy. Hope it goes well.

I killed him the same way. the ring was worth it seeing as I can roll with my heavy ass armour now.

I'm currently in Darkroot Garden, if you buy the crest for 20,000 souls it opens up a sweet area where you can invade other people's games. Basically you go through the area and have to form a pact with a wolf, once you form a covenant with her she tasks you with killing anyone that enters this part of the forest.

It's really good cause there's already some formidable foes in this area so once online folk see you coming they normally crap their pants and fall off a cliff. You get some rare stones and some nice exp for each one that dies [IMG]
