Hi guys, anyone has any good tactics of defending against Leifei? I get confused by the mixing and stagger ability of LeiFei players.
Although I've seen that dodging is helpful, I simply do not know when to dodge.
PS: I'm playing on EVO verB and am a jacky player.
    Thanx guys!

Hmmm.... it's been a whle, BUT.

Use the auto parry to grab his punches.
Lei Fei doesnt' have a lot of low attacks, so don't duck TOO often.
Lei Fei's sabaki's will not affect Jacky's full-crescent kick (sorry, don't know the command). So use that when Lei-Fei's got his back turned.

That's about all I can think of now.

Well here are 2 things that might help when playing against him.
    1. Always prepare to evade and counter when he does these moves in [2]+[G]+[P]+[K] stance.
    A. [P]+[K]
    B. [P],[P]+[K] (Evade after first [P])

    2. When he has his back turned or goes in his stances crouch dash back and low sweep him.

Remember when he goes into independent stance (the one legged stance) he'll autoreverse your punches. Some players like this stance for the useful low kick stagger move you can activate from it, and also because it allows lei to grab your punches. When you see it, use a kick. You can do a simple K,K combo, or try for a df,df+K float. Of course, the lei fei player can switch to another stance or start guarding after leaving the stance... so it depends on what your opponent likes to do.

When lei goes into that backturned stance where he's in a relatively normal position (his legs aren't crossed)... don't attack right away. Dodge or wait for him to do his giant sabaki whirly punch. People fall for this all the time because they fail to realize it has priority over every attack in the game except low attacks. If they lei player abuses it, block and throw. If he likes to get tricky and go into the stance, then try other stuff, you can dodge or fuzzy guard in anticipation of a sweep, etc. If the lei goes into the stance and gets cute by doing backturned dashes towards you, you can back throw him... though jacky's backthrow is so crappy you might not want to bother.

Lei's PP combo puts him automatically into a stance (independent stance). It's something scrubs like to abuse. It has bad recovery. If the lei fei player likes doing PP --> stance --> low kick of doom... do jacky's f+K as soon as you finish guarding the PP and you'll prolly interrupt whatever lei tries.

Lei's charge attack, the arrow punch, tracks really well. If you want to try dodging it, do it on reflex at the last possible moment. Otherwise guard it and struggle out of the stagger.

Those are some basic common lei tricks, hope that's what you're running into.

PS: don't tech roll. Like, ever. But especially not after you eat one of lei's 10,000 crumple combos. Lei can pretty much kill you with a backstagger combo, which is something that is only possible if you give him an opening (i.e. by techrolling after one of lei's crumple combos).

Whats good is to either have a leifei player in your group, or learn a little leifei yourself. When i have trouble fighting some characters, I learn them a bit just to understand their basic properties. Also with jacky, just pressure leifei, and dont let him get into the stances. Stances are the start of mind games and thats where leifei is strongest at. Just go through his movelist and sabaki chart and you should be fine.

    On Juno's note:
    -Don't dodge the Sen Shippo:
[2][P]+[K]+[G][P]+[K] - auto parry it or reverse it
-Don't "anticipate" a dodge. You need to have really good reflexes and learn to dodge when the attack is coming - if you dodge before the attack, then he'll whack you for big damage. I've learned this the hard way.

Oh yea I forgot he is playing Jacky. Yea just auto parry him during that. As far as needing really good reflexes to dodge. It's not that hard and you should prob. learn the timing anyway for use with the other chars you play.

Wow, lots of good advice here /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Thanx!
U guys have any link that illustrates a flow chart of LeiFei's stances and attacks, preferably with pics?
His dojo gives good flowcharts but no pics, and my only single visual memory of his killer moves is the arrow punch *ouch*

when you play against a high level Lei Fei, learning the "timing" won't get you far... in faact, it'll get you on your ass. If he's a scrub, he'll just go through the motions - dodging this is easy. However, a good Lei Fei will wait for YOU to dodge, then throw the attack, which will hit - every time. Don't get into the habit of doing this.

One thing useful though w/ Jacky, is that his [7][K]+[G] can do nice damage when Lei Fei's back is turned - play w/ that a bit.

I know your an Aoi and Shun user so got any tips for them against Lei Fei? my brother uses him and is pretty good and i just can't seem to get momentum with shun and YY stance doesn't do much against all that crescent crap. It's also hard for me to reverse him cuz if i miss i get punished and he mixes in a GOOD amount of sweeps.

Hehheh..yeah man, i have zero breathing space when fighting against his LeiFei. U got any VF guide books to help me recognize the attacks? Anyway, we'll have more time to play after yer 'big' period /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I think it's a given that you don't try and evade Lei Fei if a [P]+[K] or charged [P]+[K] doesnt come out. If someone playing Lei Fei is getting you with this attack when you dodge, then you are either randomly evading or have bad timing. "Which will get you on your ass." It would be absurd to say that learning the timing to evade this attack is pointless.

I'm specifically speaking of dodging follow-ups to [6][K]. Due to Lei-Fei's combo-esque style, it's easy to anticipate that a move is coming when it's not - this is what I'm saying to watch out for. By all means, learn the moves, just be warned that it can easily be used against you..

Shun and Aoi against Lei Fei:
Aoi: double stop and [4][6][P]+[K] are not subject to his sabaki's. [4][6][P]+[K] is brilliant when he tech rolls and tries to get you w/ [2][3][6][P]+[K].
YY is useful if you know your opponent well.
Do not get suckered into the [6][P][P] trap. It's not throw counterable. A throw, or anything punch/elbow related will be sabaki'ed (and make you crumble) w/ his [2][3][6][P]+[K]). [2][K]+[G], double-stop (depending on distance - it could whiff), or a safe low punch are recommended.

Shun: [1][P]+[K]+[G][P] should be abused. if you hit this after Lei Fei's [9][K]+[G] (w/ some good timing) you'll float him. Chowan and the follow-ups are guaranteed.
    [8][K] not sabaki'ed - use it.

DOn't be afraid to use kicks, if your Lei Fei buddy is IN-stance happy.

because i switch between Aoi and Shun it messes up my game sometimes against Lei Fei, i hate how shun doesn't have a [6]+[P] like everyone else, instead it does the beginning of his wierd combo, whenever Lei Fei has his backturned i do this out of reflex and it always whiffs cuz of his stance, then i lose....whats a good quick mid attack for shun? besides his kick.

Chowan, although the range on it is less than desireable, and it'll be reversed from his in stance. Some other good Shun mid stuff:

    [3][P]+[K] (not charged = not throw-counterable)
    [8][K] as stated before.

If you can anticipate something like [2][3][6][P]+[K], Shun's [4][K][P] isn't bad. I've found, if the [K] hits, the flying P follow up isn't bad. There's no way he'll get in the IN stance by then, and usually can only muster up a block at best (which staggers).

[6][P][K] actually isn't bad. This is the first and the last hit of [6][P][P][P][K] - not bad if you get used to it.

which is Lei Fei's [2][3][6][P]+[K] move? i dont know his commands? and what attack is [4][K][P]? do you mean kick and punch at the same time? otherwise isn't that just a falling back kick, BTW i dont have evo yet.

    Lei's [2][3][6]+[P]+[K] kinda looks like he's doing a Hadoken. Shun's [4]+[P],[K] is an Evo-only move I think. BTW, sup Zombie? /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
