I haven't played much VF5 since WCG last year, but I'm once again giving the VF community a chance to have the game at DEVASTATION 2010. Thought you guys might be interested in this, especially if you're playing other games as well (T6, SSF4, etc.).

If there's enough interest we'll add a VF5 side event. I'm also TRYING to get Sega to provide a VF5:r cabinet (last year we had a T6 arcade cabinet and T6 and KoF early console builds). Obviously we don't offer any guarantees on that right now, but we are discussing it. I would say it's unlikely since there isn't a marketing budget for VF at this time, but we're still working on it.

I'm sure they'd let people play vf if they want. Maybe if there was something remotely close to a demand for it, they might run it. I'm sure dosh isn't planning on going to play vf

Would be kinda nice if you read his post manji...

Cozby already said it, but we'd be more than happy to have VF5 at DEV if you guys want it there. We had VF5 at DEV '07 and '08 (I actually won the VF5 tournament in '08). I posted up about DEV '09 last year, but there wasn't much demand for a tournament so we didn't have one.

This year, with the new petition for VF5:r, we're trying to speak with Sega and maybe get a cabinet at DEV. But even if that doesn't happen, we're still more than happy to run a VF5 tournament if people would show for it.

And VF isn't the only fighter missing from our roster. CvS2, BB: CS, Melty Blood, Smash Melee... I could name a lot more. ^_^

i got the cash (right now at least), and i actually would like an excuse to visit another part of the country for once. The VF and SC scene is almost completely dead here in Atlanta, or anywhere in Georgia; all everyone wants to play is friggin Tekken, SF4, and Smash. The tourneys here are a joke. I would go to Evo, but it's turning out to be 'Street Fighter Expo '10' more than anything.

Count me in, it's a 70-80% chance that I will be able to attend

somebody put a thread up for G.A.M.M.E tourney

It would be great if more people could show their support at these big events. But out of curiosity, what's the biggest hurdle most US players face when supporting these major events? Distance? Time? Money?

Distance, time and money. The US is a big place. I also think that players aren't that competitive really in the VF scene. There isn't that much of a killer instinct out there.

  12. DrDogg

There are a decent number of players in SoCal as I recall. With a good number of SoCal people coming out for T6 and SSF4, the VF players can come out too. I'd actually really like to run a VF5 tournament again this year.

    Speaking of Killer Instinct...

Killer Instinct tournament announced for DEVASTATION!

Last year we had our KI cabinet out for casuals only and so many people asked us to run a tournament we decided to go ahead and put it in the mix for this year. On top of that, I hear that there are a few grudge matches that want to be played out...

This is going to be a special event tournament with a winner-take-all prize (well, minus the $5.00 that second place is going to get).

KI is a $5.00 double-elimination tournament played on the arcade version 1.5 with normal settings including Eyedol as a playable character.

Take a peek at this article for all the details: http://www.devastationevent.com/2010/02/08/do-you-have-that-killer-instinct/

    thanks shag

and myke, to answer your question, i've only been recently been able to go to any tournament. Being a grad student and making chump change at lowes while eating fast food all the time kept me from any type of tournament for a long time. the only ones I was able to go to were in atlanta, and at they've pretty much fazed anything out except tekken and street fighter. Heck, even at Final Round, the 'BIGGEST tournament in the south', they have NO vf at all, but they have 4 different street fighter games, Tekken, and KING OF FRIGGIN HORRIBLE FIGHTERS XII!!! Seriously? XII over VF?

I would like to follow KaminariOyaji's advice to me and start my own scene, but I'm not even good at the game myself -- I don't have the pull yet to create an entire scene for Georgia from nothing.

What I'm getting out with my frustration is that VF tourney play is strictly regulated to certain parts of the country, NY, CA, Midwest, AZ, and that's about all. So when I DO find a VF tourney, I have to travel to all parts of the country to play if I want to join a tourney. The GAMME tourney in orlando is closest yet, but its still like a 6-7 hour drive. Not that I'm any good of a VF player, but I still would like to play with people better than me to learn, now that VF5 online is a barren wasteland.

So unless there is cash laying around, going to support VF at a tourney for me is usually not feasible. Fortunately, for the moment at least, I have some cash lying around.

It would be nice to play against people in VF5. I live in Az, tucson to be more specific. I had no idea this event has been going on. I would definitely come if VF was there, but I'll probably go anyways to play some of the other games.

We're going to see what we can do about getting VF5: FS at DEV. The main thing at this point is how far along the game will be, but if Sega has any plans to show it at E3, there's a decent chance we can get that same showing at DEV.

El_Marioto: Do you know where Arcade-in-a-Box is? It's in Tucson, and they have fighting game tournaments all the time. There was a SF/T6 tournament this past weekend. I'm sure we could get them to add VF5 to the roster at least one time. In addition to me, there are a few more VF players in Phoenix that would head down to Tucson for a tournament.

If VF5:FS or you can guarantee competition I am sure some Socalers including myself would come.

Come on now... how am I supposed to guarantee comp if the SoCal players are holding out on coming for the guarantee? Most of the comp would likely come from SoCal given the location of the event.

If SoCal comes, there will be comp. If SoCal doesn't come, there won't be comp. Still working on Final Showdown though.

Got an Iron Maiden concert on June 19th and Catherine's birthday is the 20th. Not gonna make this one. I'd normally be there - FS or no FS. I think it's awesome that you're putting this on and I hope more people decide to attend.

I also hope to see you at the SoCal party in May.

I may be in Cali around that time anyway for DEVASTATION stuff, so I will certainly do my best to make it. May is a very busy month though given E3 and DEV preparations.
