slightly off topic, sorry, but can anyone confirm how good the online play is on DOA4? i'm very close to buying a copy.

is it quick to get into matches and how's the lag?

    cheers

I second what jerky just said... Muting the constant babbling is a must. As for the game, well it's very easy to get into and I personally don't suffer from much lag. Do not get me wrong, it's their, but for the most part I say I get a laggy match maybe 1 out of 20+ games. Maybe I am lucky!

in my cyber cafe we just enabled xbox live and the lag is unbareable. We got 15 comps running off a 24 port switch and a buisness DSL connection (rofl) . When i turn off all the comps i still only get 1 bar of connection tops. Whats up with that? Anyone got an idea what would make it run faster?

weird... i was just playing this morning and only had about 2 laggy matches. I must have played about 30 games. Really I don't understand how everyone complains that DOA is so bad on LIVE. Even back when I was using Verizon DSL I didn't suffer from much lag. Now that I am using CABLE, it's pretty much non existant except for peeps who are from a different region.... i.e. like UK, JAPAN, etc, etc! Any locals around the US it's usually flawless unless there internet sucks or theirs or mines is having possible issues which happens from time to time with everyones internet.

I know I can't be that lucky. Must be some other issues. Maybe people are using a router and need to open some ports or something.

I borrowed a copy and tried it for a bit. It played decently online but I remain to be sold on the character design and gameplay. Wish they'd get away from this plastic flashy anime look to the fighters. I would enjoy playing it more if the characters were more likeable and less like the wet dream of some spotty 18 year old japanese male.

when I was playing, including with Konjou, I used to get lag. Keep in mind that this was when the game was new, and I think tons of people were playing. When I say that, I mean that the game just ran slightly slower than full speed, but not stuttering/stopping. While that did happen every now and then, it wasn't that common. But the game running at full speed ala vs CPU or normal Vs play? I think I only saw that once or twice in hundreds of matches played, that's with usually trying to play only green connections, too. Cable Modem, no router.

getting into matches is quick, what sucks is that there's nothing to do once you loose a match and are waiting for your turn again. Bring a book.

hehe yea i agree with akiralove... it does sucks having to wait. would have been really nice if the avatars could actually interact. Itagaki should have added a kind of like Smash Brothers type system for the lobby so while peeps are waiting for there turn they could have some sort of brawl in the lobby. Of coarse their would be no winner, but just something the avatars could do instead of just laugh at each other and throw ninja stars that can't hit anything.

the thing about the lobby (unless they changed it w/ an update since I've played) is that even when you're in the lobby fooling with the avitars, you aren't in line to play... which I never understood. I thought the whole point of the lobby was to make it so you had something to do while you waited. But in the lobby, you're not in line, when you're truly in line, you can only watch other people choose character, stage, and fight (and pray people don't DC during a fight and make the game freeze at a black screen for 45 seconds).

    anyway, going OT here

i think the point of the lobby is as a plce to flaunt your online achievments, but yea it's a bit stupid you aren't actually in the que when messing about in them.

a better system would be to see a virtual arcade machine in 3D in front of you, with the current match projected onto the screen and the control inputs of each player displayed on the arcade cabinet's joysticks. you could then fill the remaining space with player stats and maybe a chat window.

i've tried to like this game more but just can't get over the cheesy character design. the male fighters rank amongst the worst offenders. they look like secondary characters from some japanese children's cartoon. i mean how can you play with bass and not think "what a fat cheesy cliched tosser i'm controlling"?

Konjou_Akira, I havent seen you on 360 for a minute. What times do you be on?

You're sure to see us on Fridays from 5-12AM. Other days/nights are random.

I think you showed around 11PM; usually when we start to call it a night and get something to eat. I came back after dinner on the slim chance some guys who didnt go out to eat might have stayed. Out of luck. It was O.K. cause I caught the "itis" while I watched you play.

I was really hoping to see more DOA players that night. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif I know the cost of the all-nighter deterred a lot of people.

After viewing for sometime I'll admit the game looks great.

    $5000

It has come to My attention that there will be $5000 winnings for 1st place in Dead or Alive 4 @ Evo with prizes being given to the top 8 players. This is an opportunity that should not be passed.

my times are pretty much random. I am usually on anywhere between 5PM till about 12AM M-F. Saturday / Sunday I am on and off constantly. It just depends on what I got planned for those days. Although I come on, I mostly play other games now like UNO, Tomb Raider: Legends. DOA4 is loosing it's edge for me. I am tired of all the CROUCHING NINJA'S(Kasumi, Hayate, Hayabusa, Ayane) HIDDEN SNAKE BITCHES(Christy). When you try to use Bass exclusively, it's just to much work against those characters extremely low risk SUPER HIGH REWARD game. I can't escape throws, I can't dodge. Slow escaping is a joke especially when Hayabusa or Hayate knocks you over a median only to teleport behind you and combo from behind before you can even stand much less escape for anywhere between 60% to 80% of damage. Balanced??? I think Itagaki needs to have another look. Only reason I bought and still play DOA4 from time to time is because I am a Gamer at heart and I love competition. But, I am starting to understand why Smithy and a few others constantly say the game really sucks and didn't live up to anyone's expectations and was completely over hyped.
