Well folks, it might be time to say good-bye... for a little while anyway.

Things are not bright economically in the world anywhere, and Japan is no exception. My firm has headcount coming up soon, and while I remain optimistic, I'm preparing for the worst. In a good economy, it takes 3 months to start a job here in Japan. Now, it would take longer. While I do have several months salary saved up, I need to pretend that it'll have to go for a year or two. This means cutting out two things I've spent a lot of money on in the last year - cabs and VF.

My posts have been few & far between the last few months, due to firewall at work, and not being home where there is no firewall. So, I probably won't be missed too much. Other than that, if I ever was an authority on VF, or even a good info source, I'm not now, as you don't know anything unless you're playing a lot, which I'm not, and will be playing even less unfortunately.

I've got PSO at home to fulfill my gaming needs, which is a nice solution economically. I bought the game for 6000 yen, and to play online only costs about $5 USD a month here -- that's about half of what I spend on VF in an average lunch break now.

Other than that, I've got marriage to think about, as I've been engaged since July. I've not met the future in-laws, but you can imagine how they feel about unemployment, and I've got the gaijin thing working way against me.

So, for now, I wish everyone the best of luck at VF and whatever else you do. Have some good flame wars and fights. For those coming to Japan, I might be coerced into having a session or two just to show some hospitality.

I won't be checking PMs often (or at all) so email me at texas@hpo.net if you need to get in touch with me.

I might check back in a few days for responses.

Bummer - your contributions from The Front were appreciated.

Get a beater and knock 'em dead at the disapproving-japanese-in-laws home, then spend the saved cab fare on VF.

    Good luck -

it's always sad when someone leaves a board, even if it's not permanent.

Even though I joined this board a couple months ago, and renewed my love of VF, can I just say that VFDC is the best and always will be the best board that I have ever joined being that it is only game related, but that it is because of the people who contribute to it. Gaijin Punch, Creed, Ice9, Mike, Chan, (I know Im missing some names) thank u for your hard work. GP we will miss u, and I hope u have a beautiful wedding and a happy new year /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

Real life obviously takes priority over VF, but I hope everything works out and you're back on VFDC soon. You've always been like a "reporter" on the japanese VF scene, and your contributions will be missed. Good luck GP!!

I believe that many of us at VFDC are aware of the existence of a handful of people here who has made valuable contributions to this community. Though most of us do not express ourselves openly, we really do appreciate the hard work that these folks have put in.

I may be in this community for only about a month or so, I know that GaijinPunch has been keeping this site updated regularly with the latest insights on VF stuffs/events/happenings in Japan and not to mention his countless constructive comments and opinions posted in this forum.

Like you said, GaijinPunch, the gloomy economic situation is happening everywhere, but it will past. Take a short break or something. VFDC will be waiting for your comeback.

Thanks dude and good luck /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

Well, I'm late on this...Gaijin, you're my VF hero. You've always been more than gracious with your knowledge of characters, and a flat-out pleasant, straight-forward guy to interact with. I suspect you're close to my age, so I'll just say that time does start to get away once the real-life events begin to happen, but like most things this deficiency doesn't last forever. Also, fret not about being a round-eye marrying a Japanese girl; I've a friend over there who went through the process of ceremonies both here in the States and in Japan...both
completely different rituals reflecting the cultures, both highly-memorable and both good experiences, apparently. The gaijin thing is legitimate, but that is the way of any culture crossing. It sounds like a great adventure, Gaijin-san. Good luck to you.

The bleak economic conditions are even hitting my VF evo budget.

If this goes on any further, I think the arcade will lose me as a regular for good.

And, for guys who does economics, the multiplier effect will take place and ta da!! An even more bleak reality.
