1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

So the PAL PS3 is going the route of software emulation for backward compatibility, instead of hardware like the JP/US models.

I'd like to ask you Aussie and Euro gamers, is backward compatibility a big deal for you?

I can't say that it is for me. In looking at some of my PS2 titles, there aren't that many that I'd like to play again except for, say, Shinobi. But even then, I think if I crave any old PS2 titles so badly, I'd just dust off my PS2 console. Are you guys keeping your PS2 consoles or not?

PS2 had backward compatibility with PS1, and I think there was only one game I ever wanted to play again, and that was Omega Boost.

If only they give Shinobi and Omega Boost the next-gen treatment on PS3, then I'll be happy as larry /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

backward compatibility is not an issue AT ALL imo.

A big reason for this is because the controllers are NOT backward compatible no matter what. I'd rather play the PS2 games on my PS2.

It's only a problem when the old games I wanna play/buy aren't available online or in retailers etc. I already have a PS2 and PS1, but finding the game you want is the hard part.

Well, this means I will have to keep my PS's side by side for some time to come. Specifically for God of War 2.

As for the PS2/1 backward, I played FF8 on my PS2, but I never had a PS1 in the first place so didn't have a slew of games I might feel like revisiting. So I don't really know if I care yet, fact is that due to this I possibly don't have the option to care at all.

Which actually sounds a lot like the whole PS3 deal to me. I know VF4E was worth buying my PS2 for in hindsight (it actually would've been a better deal if I hadn't bought any other games at all), but without anybody to play against and diminished features will VF5 make good 600E (which is 4 times what I paid for my PS2)?

And before anyone starts, I've currently got a few lines cast to reel in VF players in the area. If any of them comes through I'm getting a PS3 asap.

In on itself the backward compat is no biggie really.

not too bothered, the only game i play on PS2 is VFevo and maybe PS1 Metal Gear Solid. although it's not a matter of how many games can be backward compatible but it's the poor deal PAL users is getting. in UK we already been delayed by 4 months and paying close to double compared to Japan (425 >> 260), and yet we get a machine with cheaper parts? i won't be surprised if PAL users will suffer 50hz borders, just look at Wii's VC sonic the hedgehog black borders, it's huge!! reminded me like SF2 days on Snes.

hmm... apart from that i'm fine about it, VF5 will cheer me up.

I couldn't care less about PS3 backwards incompatibility. I'm buying the console pretty much for VF5 exclusively, what PS2 game would I want to play? Evo? If it had online play, sure (like I sometimes play VF2 PC), but since it doesn't, it'll just stay ditched. As for other genres, I'd rather buy some new PS3 games when (if?) they're available, not play graphically-inferior PS2 junk.

My PS2 is Jpn and my PS3 will be Aus. I think I have grand total of 4 PS2 games in PAL. So this isn't a big issue, unless those games don't work. And 3 out of 4 of them were fighting games anyway, for which sticks won't work, so it's really not a great loss.

Not entirely happy about this news coming out after pre-orders though.

You can't even play Guitar Hero with the guitar remotes on the PS3, so what's the point?

This is not as big of a deal as it seems. Sony has all along planned to move all backwards compatibility to software emulation since it's both cheaper and more efficient. The hardware BC was actually just a quick fix to be able to have backwards compatibility at US/JP launch.

So software emulations a cheaper option? But we have to pay the same price for a ps3?

  11. I have a lot of games I love on my PS2. If that's the case, then I guess it's not going anywhere even when I get a PS3.
