Evades and how to deal

    Hey all.

    I'm a newish VF player. Not really new since I've been playing off and on since vf4, but I'm newish in terms of skill I'd say. Since VF5 came out Goh has become my main character and this forum has been an excellent resource.

    I seem to have hit a wall though in my skills development when it comes to well timed evades. It seems to me the basic thing to do with Goh is to apply pressure with all his good quick mid mini-strings and mix in throws, which has more or less worked for me so far. But all his moves are so linear! When I am fighting in close with a skilled evader they jump to the side from my /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and smash me. I'm not sure how to react.

    This isn't a problem with other characters because of their many circular moves or lengthy strings to catch evaders, but it seems like Goh really only has /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif in that regard, and that's no good in close anyway.

    I get the idea that I may be missing some fundamental aspect of the game. If anyone could point me to what I'm doing wrong or what options Goh has in these situations, I'd be most appreciative.

    Yeah, the main thing you need to remember is that throws beat evades (and 66P+G beats ETEG). Try and read your opponent and figure out when they're going to go for an evade. In my opinion, Goh definitely relies a lot on predicting your opponent's actions.

    If they are constantly evading your attacks try throwing them more. Also, you can try to bait an evade and attack while they are recovering from the sidestep.

    His /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is fast and protects his back but be careful because it leaves him backturned.

    I have some success with delaying my kicks from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif strings to catch evaders. Experiment for yourself.
