On a more serious note, I think there should be an even stronger case for VF5 this year than last! Xbox Live has done wonders for the scene and has brought in many new and talented players.

If we can't get the numbers to support VF5 this year, then I'd be really surprised (and disappointed!)

I agree, just, with them narrowing the game selection to 6 games, I don't think it will be one of the chosen ones.

I should be able to make enough money by then to get a plane ticket down to Cali by then! As of Now I plan to go, I'm hopeful vf5 will be there.

It really looks like it's coming down to a guessing game for Tekken and Guilty Gear, but as I informed everyone, we can still stand strong at these events. I know payout won't be the same but we can still have a side tourney at every EVO.

Other option = August SoCal VF event! This is NOT an announcement for said event - just an idea.

An idea that's likely to happen, if need be.[/size]

are they still doing the whole evo west and east tournaments first? If they throw vf out of the official tournament are we still going to have our own vfdc style east and west then world tournament?

If no VF5 in EVO, SoCal it is. I'll bring the VFDC belt, lol.

I say VFDC MOAT if no VF at EVO.

    MOAT!

    Ok so with two spots left, and CvS2 and ST not having been announced, pretty safe bet VF isn't going to be there ; - ; - ; - ; - ; - ; - ;

So, Tourney time :D? Could be SoCal, could also go NYC too yeah? Good amount of players at each place to limit how many have to travel. Also switch it up a bit. Fine with either, or a different place all together, but I'd definitely like one, big, massive VF tourney in leu of the EVO absence.

If you weren't already going, then that's a long and expensive trip just for a "side" tourney!

If Evo is a no, then SoCal is the go! (say it with me!)

    I disagree.

There is a considerable amount of interest for VF5 at Evo. Even if Evo staff decide not to host it officially, I think VF'ers should plan an event based around it anyway. We shouldn't alienate ourselves from the biggest fighting game tourney now that more people are playing VF than ever before since the VF2 era.

Myke, "Bring the players" has been your sig since VF5 has been out. Well, the players are here now and growing. I think VF can get even bigger if we show it off more and build up hype. Many people noticed last year there was no VF casuals on the Evo floor after Friday's prelims and semis. Hardcore VF'ers shouldn't act like we are part of some elitist group and branch out to other gamers. It's time we "BRING THE GAME"

A VF tourney this year at Evo could be bigger than any other VF event outside of Japan. Definitely larger than what is possible from the SoCal or NY scenes could muster up in my opinion. One game last year (Melty Blood) had a considerable amount of participants (50+) for a non-official game. The attention it brought actually might make it an official game next year at Evo if their community keeps strong.

Evo will be at the Tropicana which is really cheap so it won't be as expensive as staying at the big resorts as of the last few years. Its located on the strip so there are plenty of places to go do things outside of gaming. TV's will be available in the BYOC area if we arrive early and in rooms.

Let us not make VF5 go under the radar like we let VF4:Evo did. With VF5R hopefully coming to consoles next year the VF scene can get even bigger and better.

See, I really like Shag's thinking here. In-fact, if we could get a healthy turnout for VF and manage a well-ran side tourney, that would be beyond ideal. To show them, yes, people in the states as well as elsewhere ARE playing. Look how hype we are :)? This game should have been here. But that's ok, we understand. However, next year... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

My only concern is, we had a poor showing when it was an official game there, question what kind of turnout we could get with it being dubbed a side tourney. I understand a LOT was against the turnout last year, but it has me skeptical regardless.

Duno. Maybe we can start polling people see how many we could get out there? I mean EVO is fun as heck even without VF but with it, oh man lol. But I do realize many who play VF only play VF (Understandable), so it's tough /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Personally, even though I probably won't go to Evo this year, you guys ought to plan a tourney around Evo, as per Shag's suggestion. There will be a lot of people watching even if it's just a side-tournament and I think you might get a good crowd going, especially if you can attract some Japanese players out (although unlikely without a good payout /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif )
