Evo Disk Problem

I picked up Evo on Monday and everything was working fine. I started playing today and the BGM at the menu screen was stopping and loading back up and a lot of the matches were taking VERY LONG to load and the game even froze. There isn't a single scratch on the disk and I tested other games for PS2 and they worked. I went and played 10th Anniv and it worked perfect. I have no idea whats wrong or if the game is defective. Please post if you may have experienced the same problems or have a good idea of whats wrong.

Delete your memory file, or use another memory card.

Try it in another PS2, a friends perhaps?

Clean the disc, you never know. Also check and see if it is scratched, sometimes the scratches are hard to spot.

Your PS2 might have overheated, so try placing it in the open.

If you can't solve it, ask Sega, or try to get a refund/exchange. The worst is, you'll either have to start all over, or spend at most 20$ again.

Your best bet is to ask SEGA to port this game to a System that dosent have a %10 failure rate, and over 20% repair rate.

Aside from that listen to other people. Sorry about this.

I deleted my system file /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif and it did the same thing. Now it seems to be getting worse, the BGM has even stopped during a match. A really weird thing is i was doing a lot of command training and it started to load really fast again, then i would go to quest and it would take 1min (if i m lucky) to load. I haven't taken the disk out of my PS2 since i bought it (2days ago) and i looked at it again and couldn't find a single scratch. I play my PS2 nonstop when i get a new game 8 hours nonstop usually so it could be overheating. If its overheating though why would other games work perfect in my PS2. This is very puzzling /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Just to wrap things up i figured out what the problem was. I know disk wasn't burnt. I tried the game at a friends house and it worked perfectly so the problem was my PS2. My PS2 worked for VF4(blue disk) but not Evo. I'm thinking my PS2 can't play DVD-ROM disk anymore. I cleaned the entire PS2 inside and out and it still had the same problem. I'm probably going to have to either get it repaired or replaced.

You should have used a new memory card or backup your system file to another card before you delete it.

When you start to have problem with a game's loading time or BGM, I believe it's a hardware problem and most likely it's the dvd drive. Disc drive problems usually start with just one or two games.

One way to test this out is to bring your EVO disc to your friend's place and play it on his PS2. If you encounter the same problem, then probably it's just a faulty disc. Have it exchanged.

But, if the game runs smoothly on another PS2...Good luck to you.

Edit : Oops, I posted a minute too late, oh well...

I have a faq on opening up a ps2 and fixing the whole DVD problem...

    Your PS2 has to be:

    1. An older model, like one of the first 2 versions...
    2. without warrenty (unless you're willing to void it)

let me know if you want me to e-mail you the faq... it involves opening up the PS2 but no wire splicing or anything. You have to manipulate a small gear in the back of the PS2 that controls the angle of the laser that shines on the disc. That helps.

Also, if the disc is very thin, try putting tape in a box around the hole in the disc. It helps the PS2 grab onto the disc. Most DVDs and CDs are so cheaply made now, that PS2s have trouble grabbing on them because the disc is so thin.

Actually its very confusing to me. /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif
My PS2 will load up perfect. The first thing that will go wrong is when the BGM stalls (the rest of the sound is fine). Any menu i go to will take about a minute to load except 10th anniversary which strangely is fine. All the command training is fine once i get into it. Wallpaper usually always freezes the game. When i go into arcade and quest (after the long load) it is usually fine until the second match when the BGM stops and then after the SFX stop and then after the match the game freezes (it seems it just keeps going downhill).
The below is reasons i think could be a problem with the disk or the PS2.
PS2 problem: BGM at menu works at friends house and loads fast but mine doesn't( although at my friends house i couldn't make it past the second match where it usually freezes because all he had was a DVD remote for me to use /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif). I do have an older model PS2 and its the same as my friends. Not a single scratch on the disk.

Disk Problem: VF 10th anniversary works perfect. The first 2 days i had it there wasn't a problem and i can't think of anything i could have done to the system. All my other games were perfectly on my PS2 including MGS2, GT3, VF4 etc.

I admit it was really stupid to erase my system file without a backup, but i was freaking out. /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I'm pretty hesitant about opening up my system (i suck a fixing things). I think i'll rent it and see if it works.

I have a question though. Does and if so how is a disc affected by overheating the system and how does overheating occur. When i first got evo i played it for about 12 hours straight. I do this a lot and no other system has ever given me problems. I'm really hoping its a disk problem since i really don't want to shell out another $300.

P.S. I guess it isn't time to wrap things up yet /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif. Sorry its like my forth post trying to say one thing(i put as much detail in as i could). This is really confusing for me because its never happened before. Thanks, you're imput is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure ... if it worked fine before... I dunno.

You don't have a roommate that could have dropped your PS2 or something ? It's hard to say, you might just have a defective disc...but it's really hard to say.

I returned Evo and got a new one about half an hour ago. I just started playing it and now it works perfectly. Finally i can enjoy my favorite game again!!! It must have been a disk defect. I'll probably never understand why the disk wasn't working on my PS2 but i could care less right now /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif. My guess is something must have happened to the disk. Has anyone ever destroyed a disk by overheating it from long play cause thats my best guess. My biggest regret right now is when i deleted my system file. I only had it for a couple of days working but i got to the 6th or 7th arcade with my lion and did about 90% of the quests along the way /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I'm not going to be to pleased to beat all those missions again to get the glowing armband. Well i'd love to say more but i got some Evo to catch up on /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
