Great news indeed. Didn't know that Comedy Central was getting it. I just hope they get the original voice actors.

The guy that does the voice of Fry came on the Adam Carolla Show and said that he's already been doing work on it so it's a safe bet.

Katey Sagal(Lela's voice) already confirmed it awhile back.

Will it be funny? Or will it be Family Guy funny (i.e. not at all, like the Futurama I remember)?

Well at least they have the main characters voices. Now I'm really looking forward to it.

Only nerds and geeks think that Family Guy is not funny. But who knows, Sebo, maybe you're the exception.
BTW, the original Futurama WAS funny... just not in a conventional way. (i.e. it wasn't The Simpsons.)

No, I'm a comedy nerd. I go to live shows up here in SF. I like various acts/shows, so it is hard to define my preferences:

I like subtle, conversation driven humor: I.E. Curb Your Enthusiasm

I like explicit commentary: I.E. George Carlin

I like surreal, slap-stick, chalk-filled with non-sequitors: I.E. "Stella" or "The State" (THEY'RE AWESOME LIVE)

I like free floating improv: I.E. "Naked Babies" (AWESOME LIVE) "Upright Citizens Brigade" (AWESOME LIVE) Reno 911! and Curb Your Enthusiasm

Blah blah blah Brent Weinbach is awesome blah blah blah
    -----

Family Guy has its merits (random, yes), I'll give it that, but it became stale after the first season.

Though I dislike South Park (season 10 sucked balls {except for Chef's death}), but I must say, what they had to say in "Cartoon Wars" was dead on.

Family Guy is terribly written. Poor storyline cluttering with "controlled randomness." Now this is fine, because, such humor isn't meant to be provocative. My main gripe it that it got old really fast.

What compounds this: IT IS OVER-FUCKIN-QUOTED. People talk about it as if it is greatness, yet it does the exact same thing every episode.
    ------

Futurama suffers the same fate, except that it isn't random and stale, but it is a sterile viewing experience.

I.E.: Space Invaders, not sure what the exact name of the episode is, but it mimmicks the game "Space Invaders."

Aliens are coming to invade Earth, throw in some pop culture references and use 1337 5|*3/-\|<, and boom= laugh riot!!!

Well, that was their intent, and tons of others on another forum thought it was hilarious... I found it to be a pathetic bore. Pathetic because it uses phrases to lure the laughter... I don't bite for that shit. When a T.V. show needs to rely on such references the writing staff is out of ideas.
    --------

Simpsons are funny in a conventional way?

The Simpsons haven't been funny since 1998, some could argue earlier than that. It is a shame to see what was once a great show with great ideas being hauled around like a corpse that should have been buried long ago.
    ---------

But then again, I'm a cynical asshole.
