G4 XPlay's Best Fighting Game of 2012

Tonight's episode of Xplay was about best of the year videogames. They had a category for fighting games. I wasnt expecting this at all coming from this tv show but they gave the award to Final Showdown. Other nominees included Playstation Allstars, Persona, Soul Calibur V and Skullgirls. I don't understand why DOA5 and TTT2 werent on the list though. But still this is great news and may shed some more light on FS to mainstream audiences.

 

That's crazy shit. As soon as I read the heading of this post I thought, "VF ain't winning that shit."
I hope the win does cause people to wonder why VF won, and they actually pick it up.

 

Surprising...really surprising. But, hey, the more publicity, the better.

 

I am shocked. I guess G4's Xplay knows what a good fighting game is still.

 

I was gonna say this was a pleasant surprise, but the opening few seconds of the video already lost the presenters all credibility.

Yeah, it's publicity, but eeeaaauuurrrggghhh. So want to roundhouse kick those bitches in the face.

Go check out their Game of The Year video and watch them call Hitman "slick and stylish."

Not gonna be called out by holier-than-thous who think other communities are any better.

 

Video was bad. Outcome was dope. Like the laughing when the winner was announced, lol!

 

FS may not be as popular among the long time VFers in general but it is a big hit with the other people enough to get noticed. We really needed this publicity to make the VF community grow overall. We need more good pub like this too and I am sure this is making the people at Sega smile right now. FS appears to be exceeding all of their expectation outside of Japan for sure. What this means for the next VF who knows but only good things can come from it from my point of view.

 

Long time VFers I know like FS because it's pre-VF4 VF. A lot of people didn't get into VF until 4/EVO and then later 5, so that's where the disparity and arguments come from. It's all VF in the end, just on what what type of style depending on the players taste.

EDIT: Bet that won't be on SRK's front page. You know it would have been if Persona or Skull Girls woulda took it..

Maybe I speak too soon though, we'll see.

 

I'd love to see the full episode, mainly because I'm more interested in see how they explain why VF took the 1st place. Does anynone recorded the full episode or has a link for it?

No DOA 5 or TTT2 mentioned, but a recently released fighter like PS AllStars gets a nod? LOL. Oh, this was done by G4 X-Play, the soon to be disband network. Props for VF I guess.

VF never had a problem when it came to gaming media. The series always received a fair amount of praise by magazines and websites. The problem is how new players approach it, like so:

Yea I always notice the praise VF gets as a fighter too in magazines, etc.. Weird how lots of folks never take to it. I admit, when I first played VF5 I didn't like it at all, but I kept playing cause I rented it and I wasn't gonna waste my money hahah. Eventually I understood the system and it opened for me, and I liked fighting games all over again after dam near 15 years.

I just don't like other fighting games that much that are out, just some bs fighting systems in my opinion (Besides SFHDR, even though that game is mad cheap, that's my child hood fighter right there.) They look nice though, but they play like crap. Compared to VF anyways. But that's just my opinion. I'd play em if someone gave me the games, but I aint droppin no $ on any of that. Except maybe that new BlazBlu for me and my nephew to square off in since we both know nothing of that game, and the anime style drawings looks cool. I either beat him down in VF, or he beats me down in Naruto, so BB will be neutral ground for us.
