OK I know some people had stong opinions about my review of arcade VF4, but times change and I have tried to express things a bit differently in this review. I'd be interested to know what some of you think. Regarding the movies, if anyone has not seen the game yet, I am willing to provide a login to anyone who emails me asking for one so they can view the movies.

Hey Adam, cool review IMO.
Just a suggestion though, try and make a couple of movies from the replay files that are in the game. I saw them last week and they were pretty awesome. Seeing some Japanese high level play should be a lot cooler than someone playing the CPU (even though the AI is a good deal better in 4 than 3).

Are there pre-recorded replays to watch? Didn't realise that... who's playing, anyone the board knows?

Yes, read this:

Decent review Adam, you always do a good job of conveying your enthusiasm for the series. Just a few mistakes I picked up:

<ul type="square">[*]dodging is just a single (not double) tap up or down
[*]"Blocking or (if your character....) ... with P+K" -- the end of the sentence should read "... with G or P+K"
And some comments:

<ul type="square">[*]Did Akira have to appear in practically every screen shot? /versus/images/icons/smile.gif
[*]How the hell do you play with the following joypad config: "on a pad I find it most comfortable with L1 as punch, L2 as kick, and Triangle as guard" ? *ouch* Unless, you mean R1 an R2 for P, K?
Wow, well spotted on those things. Yes, I meant R1 and R2. Re dodging - I always thought it was a double tap, what a dumbfuck. Yes, Akira has to be in every screenshot because he is the daddy. ;-)

Is dodging out of the screen really a single tap down? I thought it was double tap down and single tap up for dogding into the screen...

Yes. But it's more of a quick flick than a full tap.

I use a double tap down to "walk" (or ARM, in Sega propaganda talk) out of the screen, but you only need one tap to dodge.

Yep, that's exactly right!

just to be overly thorough, so people 'get it'... dodges happen if the joystick is moved up or down and then returns to center within X frames (a very short time). So the technical motion is d,n or u,n.

Double taps require a return to the center so that's why they work well for dodging.

Aye Adam...single tap to dodge...
If u input double tap...Ur character will endup walking after dodging..quite a waste don't ya think /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

Nice review.
