Goh speed question

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very good. I'm just learning, but I honestly can't stop playing. I love Goh, and I'm alright at him, but I have one major problem. Goh never seems fast enough for me. When I fight people online like Eileen and Vanessa, I constantly get my ass handed to me because I cant move Goh fast enough, and I can't get any hits in. Any reccomendations?
I've been playing with a controller, thinking about switching to arcade stick.

Moving goh around by holding a direction is going to be much slower than eileen or vanessa, because his walking speed is at the slow end of the spectrum.

Try moving by dashing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif, etc. An arcade stick will help with this.

    Oh, and do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif a lot /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Thats not really what I'm talking about. I mean more like when Vanessa is like, in my face, doing PPPK combos. None of goh's strikes seem fast enough to intercept and "take control" again.

In regards to movement or attack speed, changing to a stick probably won't help you much..

Goh's attack are slower than Eileen or Vanessa because thats how he was designed as a character. Perhaps you might want to use his sabaki options to turn the tide if you are being overwhelmed.

For example, if the Vanessa player uses her /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif string very often, you might want to try guarding the first two punches (to confirm that the string is coming), then press /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif to sabaki the third punch.

Hey Sonic, I went through the same thing before. I think it got better for me when I stopped thinking of Goh as a striking/attacking character - Vanessa, Eileen will ALWAYS be better at continuously attacking and mixing up different levels of attacks.

Goh cannot always be on the offensive in the same way, so you'll have to learn to defend well and only attack (and throw a lot!) when the opportunity arises...slight changes in mentality like that helped me a lot.

It's probably of the way he looks - his appearance and attitude makes him out to be a kick-arse berserker type of fighter, when he's actually more of a defensive "precision" fighter (got that from another thread:))

Take my advice with a grain of of salt, because I'm also a noob with Goh, but good luck!

I know he is a "slow" character. I was just looking for advice on how to interrupt really. That Sabaki thing I really need to work on... I seem to miss it a ton.

I know what you want to do: intercepting the opponent's string right away. When I tried to do that at the very beginning of playing VF5, I got counter-hit out of what I was doing most of the time. Back in VF3 these things were easier if I remember correctly.

But the move properties have changed so much that you can't say that in general you will be able to intercept a string with this or that if it's just timed correctly.

For breaking strings abruptly you may want to look into the following techniques:
<ul>[*]Low-punch[*]Shoulder Ram[*]Sabaki[*]Knee [baiting foes who begin their strings from afar into a counter-hit knee - worth the risk for the potential damage][*]Sweep[/list]

Hmmm, yeah, thats more what I was talking about.
Sabaki is that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif move, right? That you can turn into a hold and then a throw?

Well, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (like Vanessa's) are special kinds of sabaki, the sound it there and you get frame advantage much like after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif except you don't get direct damage.

So in a way, you can call it a "sabaki-reversal." (I don't like the word, but give a suggestion for another one to coin)

As long as we're doing something this risky, you might as we add in /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif against predictable high strings. I've found those, in my admittedly limited Goh experiences, to be both a good throw setup and a very stylish technique as well.

    i made a typo btw, 46p+k should be 46k

And i thought moves that parry an opponents attack but dont inflict damage are called inashis. I figure Gohs p+k and3p+k belong to that category.

really in any fighting game and fight period the best advice is to learn your opponent and then KNOW yourself Goh's not fast but He's strong He uses judo So take chances at breaking their strings and when you are successful take full advantage to hurt them if you sabaki and grab do damaging throws like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif throw follow up (if you can) with a ground throw and immediately low punch. I PROMISE you if successful you opponent will think twice about rushing in. force them to block even for a sec and super throw them
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+ GRAB remember attempt all down attacks and down throws just in case. USE YOUR JUDO NOT YOUR ATTACKS. You will win. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

no, never use down atacks unless they are guaranteed, if they roll while you are attemting a down attack or ground throw you are left open. And use ground throws sparringly because they will be escaped.

And always use your attacks, what are you talking about? VF is about mids and throws. You need your attacks to set up your advantage to create opportunities to throw, OR to do a mid. If you always throw the opponent can simply abare out of it with a fast jab or a non clash move.

    some bad advice there dude.

Ok First I never said JUST Throw Just don't depend on his speed more than his throws. secondly I Know you may have some skill at breaking or dodging low throws or attacks but EVERYONE no most people don't. Like i Stated THE BEST ADVICE LEARN YOUR OPPONENT! you'll know who your fighting by his skill level if he breaks all your throws and dodges your combos then AVOID playing that fighter he's too skilled. But Yes I would recommend trying first not waiting for a guaratee your opponent may mess up but not taking chances can get Goh defeated. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif you must use his arsenal You are a Judoka If you want to depend on attacks try using Kage And his mix of speed and judo /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif . If goh is your guy Be patient develop strong defence and master his throws ALL OF THEM!! GROUND TOO! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif And Yes Learn to mix up attacks that's what I meant by FORCE THEM TO BLOCK then GET a SUPER THROW!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif Come on man let's be smart that's like using wolf and just punching. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif
