Updated to include Light Down Attacks on 14/11/2020.

Updated to fix various mistakes, improve formatting on 15/07/2021.

Updated to include special case for Taka Arashi on 16/10/2021.

Recently I saw a question about what happens when down attacks are guarded, so I thought I'd do some testing and make a thread.

    Some general points:
    • All Light and Heavy Down Attacks are mid and must be guarded standing, even though no hit level is shown in training mode.
    • All Light and Heavy Down Attacks can be blocked if the downed player recovers in time. However in some downed states the player cannot recover in time to block/roll away from a Down Attack (eg immediately after an attack that Slams, or after particular throws where a Down Attack is guaranteed after the throw).
    • As Light Down Attacks generally have quicker execution frames, whether a Light Down Attack will be guarded is much more dependent on timing of the attack. If the defender is about to leave their downed state, it's likely that the attack will become the regular standing attack (if the down attack input is [3][K], the regular [3][K] attack will occur). While an In-Place Recovery (Quick-Rise) may tend to result in a guarded Light Down Attack, a Side Roll Recovery (Tech Roll) will tend to result in the Light Down Attack whiffing, due to the different lengths of each fall recovery.
    • Light Down Attacks seem to have very short block-stun frames - To ensure the recovery attack hits, it must be executed immediately after the Light Down Attack is blocked.
Special Case for Taka: During the later stage of fall recovery for Taka, if he is hit by a Light Down Attack he will gain a huge frame advantage (30+ frames)! This sacrifices a small amount of damage for a big combo opportunity. This does not work during the start of his fall recovery, Taka will be hit grounded. Taka can guard the Light Down Attack at any stage during fall recovery as per other characters. Example: https://youtu.be/K_9ap57uPkM

    Heavy Down Attack Notes:
    • Heavy down attacks which have the same animation will have the same frame disadvantage on block:
      • Akira, Goh, Lei Fei
      • Jacky, Sarah, Vanessa (OS)
    • The heavy down attacks for Akira, Goh & Lei Fei are hard to punish as the character moves backwards during the recovery animation and as such punches may whiff.

I made an incorrect statement in my original post about not being able to guard Light Down Attacks, as I wasn't about to replicate it in training mode at the time - Thread has now been updated to include Light Down Attacks on block.

    Wolf's 3P being -31 is wild. I'm surprised it's actually more negative than 3P+K
