1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. Help a VF newbie - Converter or new stick?

Discussion in 'Joysticks and Other Controllers' started by ZombieInfected, Dec 19, 2007.

  1. Hi all you VF gurus /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I have an old Asciiware joystick that I bought for my PS1 AGES ago.

Is it worth getting a converter for this one, or should I save some money, and get me another joystick altogether? Preferably USB obviously.
I have looked on the net for a few days, and the HRAP3 looks really nice, albeit a bit steep on the price.

Then there's the VSHG, I'm not sure if that one is out of production.
Then I'm a bit undecided on the Hori Fighting Stick 3
    [IMG]

Or the Saulabi 4K fighting stick?

The Saulabi looks built like a god damn tank! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

    Any input apreciated. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Assuming this is for PS3, since there aren't any usable converters for xbox360 . . .

Vshg is the best, and still in production; hrap3 a close second. Stay away from the others you mentioned.

Pelican brand ps2->ps3 converters are cheap, and would let you keep using your stick if you're comfortable with it.

Note that (last time I checked) you can use a converter for playing PS3 games with PS2/1 sticks. You can NOT use a converted PS2/1 stick to play a PS2 game on your PS3.

  4. Sorry for being unclear - Yes It's for PS3.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll check what my closest shops have to offer. Or maybe order it online.
Still haven't decided what to buy though.

    There is one problem.
If you got use to play on ascii stick, then it will be very hard to transfer to VSHG or Hori.

  7. Why is that?

    Because it's very different.

VSHG and Hori has big square gate. Dificult to transfer. Seems very slow and inaccurate on the beginning.

Ascii has a very small squre gate. Gentle diagonals.
Easy to learn IMHO. In the other hand it has rubish buttons.

Saulabi is like opposite to Hori/VSHG. It has a circle gate.

The only issue with the VSHG is that it has a short wire, so you may need to purchase a USB 2.0 extension cable depending on how close you sit to your PS3. Otherwise, it is the best stock stick you can buy.

  10. Agreed on the rubbish buttons. They seem a bit unresponsive unless you hit them exactly at the center. And very noisy too. I have filled the stick casing with cotton, and it has helped quite a bit. Still noisy though. If I play late at night, i want to keep the noise down, and the girlfriend happy. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Yhe best stick I have tried was an old "Arcade" joystick. I think it was made for commodore 64, or ZX spectrum at the time. It would be awesome to convert that into a new PS3 stick. I think Happ made them. It had an octogonal gate at the bottom of the base. Very handy for fighting games. And a nice short travel as well.
No worries about the USB extension. I use it for my Logitech Dual Action pad. I find it easier to use for fighting, because the d-pad is a LOT smoother than the Playstation d-pad. And very responsive as well.

Thanks again for the great advices, and for welcoming a newbie to a forum without the usual stupid replies. Big /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbs_up.gif to everyone.

Edit: I was at the local EB Games, yesterday. And I asked if they had any PS2 to PS3 converters. Now instead of just saying they they didn't have any, the guy at the desk just said that "there is nothing called a PS2/PS3 converter.", "It's not possible" and so on.
Well - I saw it on your internet page..... What a moron.
Aaanyway, I'll seroiusly consider buying a stick on play-asia or something. Are they reliable and quick?

  11. HRAP3 stick has been shipped from Play Asia... I can't wait! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Thanks again for your advices guys.

  12. And it has arrived. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
Damn! That was fast. Only 5 days, all the way from Hong Kong.
