Anyone have any recommended vids of some high level Aoi players? I've liked her for awhile and play her very basically, but never seen anyone else play her decently. Any help would be cool. Thanks. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

If you search the media board for "AOI" you'll find a bunch of results, just read through them (mostly the ones by dre) to see links to recent aoi footage. Maybe a few will have some comments about the quality of the aoi play.

Practice reversing rising attacks. It's only two levels either it's medium or low. Once you get the hang of that, your reactions towards reversing will improve dramatically. That's one way of starting to play Aoi in a different level. One of the best followups after reversing cresent rising attacks is [4][6][P] hit throw. That's all I know. /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

I'll do some searching around then, CreeD.
    Thanks for the tip stomp.

I made me a pretty Aoi avatar. /versus/images/icons/shocked.gif

IMO, it's better to do [4][6][P]+[K] (in ver. C) after the crescent inashi (timing is a bit strict though). Stomach crumbles for guaranteed groundthrow, or even better for [6][K][K] anti-TR backstagger setup.
60 damage guaranteed instead of 30 with better oki options.

Edit: I don't know if a human can struggle out of the inashi in time to block [4][6][P]+[K]

A little on-topic question, that probably can't be searched for...

Could someone point me to some Aoi videos where reversals are heavily used? I've seen a lot of guard-canceling Aoi, but no videos of reversal-Aoi. Thanks.

good luck. I haven't found many to this date. But yeah, my friend Stoopid on vfdc plays aoi where he reverses very well. I hope he puts up those vids of us playing. Since he moved away.

3or19, thanks for the tip. I'll try it out.

The only one I can think of right now is:
    http://www.vfevo.com/movie/vfevo/KaeruvsKumi.wmv

Aoi gets 3 reversals against Akira in this one. IMO, that's alot since reversals are so risky in a high level match. It's probably better to use them against rising attacks, since you only have to guess between 2 attack levels.

VFZone's archive has all of the EVO clips from sega.jp, Amusement Act, and TEXAS movie site, as far as I know. There are a lot of decent Aoi clips, but not too many that show a lot of reversals. It's a huge archive, so here are a few filenames to look for:

    am.sega.jp clips:
    aru-ketu
    aru_jun2(both feature Tokyo Banana's Aoi)
    maeb_02
    sen_jun01
    jun01_1
    jun01_2
    jun01_3
    a_1_4
    a_3
mk2_06 (Gerira's Aoi does a few reversals near the end)

    TEXAS:
    ev_42 and ev_45

    Amact:
    kumi_vs_ura
    nonvssio

And one from VFR Homepage, 2002bay10_3.wmv.

    Hope that helped.

sup stomp, I was juuuust gonna mention st00pid's videos.
I don't know if it's inbred play or if his jacky playing buddy just loves canned combos or what, but stoopid nails a ton of reversals on him.

If anyone wants to check out these clips, I'm on irc as usual.

SToopid has wild reversal skills. Dont forget, stoopid is part of team hydra. He trained his aoi against the likes of Stomp, Blonde_one, and Of course ME!! lol jk.

    Its not inbred play.

sup creed. That Jacky player is part of team hydra also. His name is Axel and he just loves to play with canned combos. But yes, Stoopid is part of team hydra and he has mad reversal skills. His clips are up? Where the hell are they? Did he have one of me getting reversed to death by his aoi with my Pai? I don't think it was inbred play. But it could have been. Hell we played like 3 times a week for a few months when he saved those vids. lol.

Opps.. just read your post again. I'll get the clips from you when I got to imf's house. later.

Thanks a lot for all the AOI vid links Ghostdog! i was able to download about half of them but i was wondering if all the am.sega videos were in .wmv extension or in the same directory "http://vfevo.com/movie/vfevo/ " maybe thats why i couldn't get the rest if they have different extention or location. Or could be they took down the files? I wasn't able to get
    aru-ketu
    vevoaru-jun2
    maeb_02
    jun01_1-3
    a_3
    ev_42
    ev_45
    nonvssio

I don't think [4][6][P]+[K] will work on the mid rising crescent after it is inashied; as it is too slow. It will however, work on the low rising crescent, due to the opponents much longer recovery time on that inashi. [4][6][P], [P]+[G] will work after both. But if you're able to get an inashi on the low rising, it is better to go for [4][6][P]+[K],[6][K][K]; like 3of19 had already stated.

sup... the b,f+P+K is good vs sweeps... vs. crescent, you can follow the inashi with
    [4][4][P][K] --> [K],[K] --> [3][P]

Ooh am I famous yet? I wish I could host the videos b/c I know not everybody visits #vfhome. I thought I'd have enough space, but my isp only gives 10mbs per account and they are all between 10.1 and 15mbs. Except for one Jacky vs Aoi clip that's 9mbs.

As for countering, there's really no trick to it. Like everything else it's a guessing game. 75% of the time I counter mid attacks and when I'm unsure of what's coming I do the inashi.

    hey CreeD,

I never thought of using [4][4][P]+[K] after a mid crescent inashi. Probably figured the range on [4][4][P]+[K] was too crappy to reach the stunned opponent. If you do connect with it, I recommend using [P]([G])[P][P][P][K] instead of [6][K],[K]; since [3][P] after [6][K],[K] isn't guarenteed. This will give you 3pts. more of guaranteed dmg. Even [P][P][P][K] does a pt. more than [6][K],[K]. These will both work after [4][4][P]+[K]; even on Jeffry. I'm not sure if they will connect when you factor in the mid crescent inashi; but I don't see why they wouldn't. I'll have to experiment.

    re the b,b+P+K followup:

by [6_][K],[K] --> [3][P] I meant hold forward, do a canned K,K combo (not the knee-jumping kick). In version C that would give you a guaranteed ground punch for best or near-best damage. Otherwise, PPPK-type followups are good. f+K,K is also good because it's easy to punish tech rolls with a backstagger.

    Oh, [6_][K][K], [3][P]. Gotcha...
