Hiromi's ALIVE CD Just Dropped!

When I'm not doing VF, one of the things I try to do is Keyboards, Synths, Jazz Piano. Been into that for a long time. Favorites are Chic Corea, Herbie Hancock, Oscar Peterson, Joe Zawinul, Jan Hammer. But when I heard this young girl she took top spot, I've seen her in person 4 times. I've been listening to her almost exclusively. She is A FN piano monster. A keyboard demon, a fuckin kung fu keyboard beast. IMO this girl is one of the greatest pianists on the planet right now. Her new CD Alive just dropped. If you are really really really into keyboard and piano check out Hiromi Uehara and everything she's ever done, you won't regret it!!!!

I had first heard about Hiromi from one of the collaborations that she did with Stanley Clarke (which was just awesome, by the way)! I am not familiar with her work as much as I'd like to be, so I may just give her new CD a listen.

 

Oh yea, I've got her project with Stanley Clarke, I think Lenny White is on Drums on that one too. But I met Hiromi at Nighttown Club in Cleveland Ohio, the year after she graduated from Berkley, before anyone new who she was. It was a intimate setting less than 50 people in the audience. She is totally kewl, and real (and loves to eat ). She had on chucks and this wild hair style and so petite, no one would have ever guessed that she would absolutely demolish that grand piano. She turned a perfectly good working 6 ft grand piano into dust. The speed and dexterity was crazy! I've heard a lot of keyboard and piano playin, but nothin like Hiromi. She is literally a kung fu master of the keyboard And Tony the bass player, and I forget the drummer's name, they were freakin awesome also.

I've always really enjoyed this concert! Ronald Bruner Jr. on drums! I especially enjoy the version of Black Narcissus (47:00).

Hiromi's awesome, I've seen her live twice, one with her Sonicbloom quartet and last year with trio she's also featured with on this most recent album. So much energy, so much virtuosity, such awesome music. One moment I remember vividly during these concerts was when the guitarist in her Sonicbloom quartet (don't remember his name, he was subsituting for Fuze) unplugged his guitar and continued playing. It was barely audible, and the entire audience (three or fourhundred) held their breath to be able to hear his crazy unplugged solo. Very cool.

For those of you who don't like jazz music, or instrumental stuff. She has orgasmic expressions whenever she plays. Worth checking out for that alone

Stanley , is a treat too. I checked him out with Chic Corea, Lenny White and Jean Lu Ponty on the return to forever tour in Cleveland Ohio .

Actually I've got the 2 CD set with Hiromi and Corea, its just beyond belief.......
