How about Shenmue characters in a VF game?

    I am a fan of both games and as of late SEGA doesn't seem interested in finishing the final Shenmue game. So I feel this would be the best we could get. Instead of SEGA creating new characters for the next VF5.5 or VF6. I think they should add the Shenmue characters like Ryo and Landi, Tom etc into the game, the story could go like this, Landi entered the VF tournament and Ryo followed him to get his revenge. Even Some of the backgrounds in VF5 seemed very similar to Shenmue enivronments from Shenmue II.

    Another idea would be to make a fighting game built on the VF engine using the Shenmue characters. I would also like to see maybe a weapons version of VF some day, I think that could be done good, similar to Last Bronx.

    Problem is, the major Shenmue characters and unique enemies are just lesser clones of existing VF characters:

    Ryo = Akira
    Chai = Lion
    Greg Moore = Wolf
    Rod Stunt = Jeffy
    Chunyan/Izumi = Sarah
    Baihu = Lau
    Dou Niu = Taka

    Those eight would just be redundant, and the other characters wouldn't really fit in. Also, I'd rather see new characters.

    Ah, Shenmue. I think I speak for a lot of Sega fans when I say that I have mixed fealings about Shenmue. Given Yu Suzuki's track record he probably has a free hand to do whatever he wants at Sega HQ. I can picture him at work doing whatever he wants and if someone tries to hassle him he's just like, "Back off! I made Afterburner! Now get the hell out of my office before I call the CEO and have your ass fired!"

    You get mad props for remembering Shenmue, and even more for referencing Last Bronx. I still have the saturn Import,thats dedication. If they cant include Ryo, as Sega probally wont because they are so meticulous with their VF characters. They would fully develop Ryo to be on Par with the other Vfers. That would take more work than they are willing to do for a mere bonus character. The best SEGA could do would be include RYo and Lan Di's full outfits (including the band-aid ) as customizable items.

    As for your Shenmue question, I think it'd be pretty interesting to see them in a VF game.

    However, what you say here about them making a new weapons-based fighter...ala Last Bronx...

    That'd be something to see, I mean, I love Soul Calibur...but, Sega AM2 could definitely make an even greater weapons-based fighter...That, I'm sure of. ^_^

    Lau's stage BGM is a remix of the Yellow Head Building in Shenmue 2.

    I think it would be great to see Fang Mei putting the sinister smackies on Wolf for once, but what i think would be even better is having a VF rendition of the 100 man battle as a minigame in the next vf.

    Not me, I feel a lot of the new characters are becoming redudant with cheap moves. I used to remember the days that a beginner would usually get beat by someone that knows the game. Now with the new characters anybody can pick up the game and win without any skill or technique just because of the cheap moves.

    I am still up for a Shenmue fighting game based on the VF engine or a Fighter Megamix like others have mentioned.

    You have to realise that Shenmue was based on Virtua Fighter. And SEGA did put in Ryo Hazuki in VF4 Evo, don't you look at the player's list in Quest mode? (Sorry but I don't have VF5)

    Well, it was Akira with the name Ryo Hazuki. He was ?? dan (or higher?) and was dressed in black and wore the Schoolhat.

    Not really, Ryo and Akira only have a few of the same moves.

    Maybe so with Ryo and Akira, but the others are just different skins of VF3 versions of characters (although I never understood why Greg Moore had Wolf's VF2 Drop Kick).

    I tried playing Shenmue once but I got bored as hell with it after a short period of time. So the inclusion of a Shenmue character wouldn't really bother me.

    It is godlike! The interaction, the feeling, the locations Yamanose, Dobuita, Sakuragaoka and the harbor, all the bars, the characters, et cetera. I played through it five times and my brother like twenty times.

    Really Seidon, take a deep breath and dive into the world of Ryo Hazuki.
