I know theres tons to pick from, but to me the arenas are the most amazing aspect of this game.

I'd say Pai definately has always gotten the best level designs. Her Chinese Palace and Rooftop are great, and the Aquarium is my all-time favorite. Akira's seem pretty bad. His dojo's are plain and boring (and repetitive, give him something new) and i don't even really know what his VF2 stage was supposed to be. The whole repetitive thing comes up again with Lau, Jeffrey and Jacky, who I think have had bland stages (The Great Wall and City Building) two times in a row now, and apparently Jeffrey is doomed to a beach forever. Lau's VF2 Stone Towers and Jacky's VF2 Hills were much better. Lei-Fei got a great stage, and Vanessa's is not too shabby or great either way. Aoi gets okay stages, but for as awesome as she is, I feel she deserves better. Sarah's stages are terrible, as her Coloseums and Subway seem so bland (the lighting in VF4 was a cool touch though). Shun has cool stages, but i think Lion's are weird and uninspiring. Wolf has had nice stages, except for the desert, which is hate. And Kage's stages are nice, though i feel like there is some sort of repetitive them to all of them that I can't quite put my finger on.

So without any more explanations, here my favorites, feel free to post yours and explain why if you'd like, just for fun of course:
    1) Pai's VF4 Aquarium
    2) Kage's VF2 Forest
    3) Pai's VF3 Store Rooftop
    4) Pai's VF2 Chinese Palace
    5) Lei Fei's Temple
    6) Kage's VF4 Garden
    7) Shun's VF2 City Harbor
    8) Jacky's VF2 Hills and Mountains
    9) Dural's VF2 Undersea Greece
    10) Wolf's VF2 Ice Lake

    Akira - virtua fighter 2
No fighting game music was ever more enjoyable to fight to. We would save our best characters for that stage, just so we could have a good match with that music.

Stage makes no difference to me. I would be just as happy if it was fighting on dirt with a ditch encircling it as out of bounds.

If I had to choose one I would have to say Jacky's VF4E Rooftop.

I'd have to disagree with Jacky's stages being boring. Yeah, they're on top of buildings, but they have the most interesting effects. VF3 had the sparks and the light bulbs that were breakable. VF4 has the chopper and the fancy lighting effects. They're great stage, imo. Same goes for Lau, his VF3 stage was excellent, a nice transition between undulation and flat ground. His VF4 stage is, imo, the nicest stage especially with the rain added in for Evo.

Personally, I've always thought that Pai's VF3 stage was horrible. The incline was just way too much and no one ever chose that stage for vs. play. Her aquarium is neat and but nothing special - the evo version is better then the VF4 version which I thought was just too busy. If you've ever played VF3tb on the DC with people on a regular basis, you'll notice that more than half the time people chose Akira's dojo. It's flat, the lighting was nice, it had ring-outs and it had walls. The perfect stage for versus play. I've always been quite fond of the dojo and choose with some regularity in Evo.

I'm surprised you left these out but the Dural version of many stages in VF3 are really nice and amongst my favourites. Her version of Sarah's and Taka's stage in particular.

    cheers,

I say its got to be VF3tb the Great Wall stage, nice uneven floors, pink sky, and no sign of any tourist

I'm a big subway fan actually - coolest way to hand a round to your opponent ever. VF3 Lau, VF4 Jacky, VF2 Chicago, Evo Lion are all great as well.

When I think of my favorite stages, i usually think of them more artistically than strategically, and that's probably why I loved Pai's original Aquarium, which had nice water and lighting effects and a very cool interior, but I now hate the contruction stlye Aquarium, which is just so extremely different. In addition to her stage in VF3 having that massive incline, I actually urge my friends to play their in versus battle, I find it easiest for me to pull off juggles on that Rooftop. Plus the scenery is nice.

I liked Aoi's stage, then the subway, then Lion's stage, then Taka's stage. The circle is just pure brillance and brings in some awesome edge games. I dunno, but my friends and I never had a strong preferance for one stage, except we probaly stayed away from Wolf's.
