Just to cover myself incase this was asked before and to reduce flaming, i did a thorough search for VF net reading every topic looking for this answer, i tried to read the card (i can speak japanese, but dont read it so well), and i visited to the official VF net site (once again, i dont read japanese well). So if this has been asked before, or is common logic, please just humor me.

    Now, that being said:

How do i use VF net? I just got to japan 2 months ago and i got my VF net card today, however i dont know how to input a name, change outfits or do anything else. I think that the server may have been down at the arcade i was at (indicated by a glowing icon in the bottom left right? I learned this from reading posts, so theres some proof i did homework). Throughout reading the posts i noticed a few people live in a japan, and maybe they can help me out. Also, what special services do you get for paying the extra registration? And what are the basic services with just a card? Thank you for your help.

You need either a DoCoMo or J-Sky enabled cellphone OR a fully Japanese language-compatible PC.

For the cellphone, it's simple. You just need to look in the service's web directory, under games. You'll find something called "Sega Parade". This is Sega's mobile site. Go there, and look around on that page to find VF.NET. After you go to VF.NET, you'll be able to create your account, which will tack an extra 300 yen a month charge on your phone bill (plus internet use charges if you really go overboard, ie playing Battle Arena too much).

Remember, your phone must be a NTT or J-Phone model. Nothing else will work.

I tried downloading PC VF.NET while I was there but had some problems with it that prevented me from being able to use it. Anyone who has used it successfully, can you explain how you managed it?

I remember I had troubles with it at first too but then it suddenly worked. I think (but not sure) that my problem was simply that I didn't try to log-in using the Isao(sp?) browser at first. I created an account and dled the browser, but then went ahead to log-in with Internet Explorer. Did you try to log in from the browser itself? It might have been something else, but it sure was irritating to register for VF.Net PC.

    I think Bu is right.
In the long run, the PC solution is much cheaper (DSL versus 12kb/s packet costs) but is much more of a bitch to set up. DoCoMo users have that whole weird "zone" or "server" thing to set up, where you have to wait for VF.NET to mail you to proceed. Not hard, but takes an extra 12 hours or so (at least it did when I set my friends up on Ver. C some time ago).

If you're serious about using the PC version, and don't have a dricas account, you need to go to www.isao.net and get DreamPassport for PC, and set up an account there. You can uninstall it after that. You'll need to buy "Dreams" under your login, then go to VF.NET for PC, and use your dreams for an account.

I've had a Dricas account since the DC PSO days, but just realized I lost my info now. Need to get that back.

As Zero said, the mobile phone version is a piece of cake. If you've got a J-Phone or DoCoMo, just ask someone at the arcade -- they can walk you through it.
