How good are top online players compared to the best japanese players?

    Like chibita, fuudo etc?

When i watch youtube of the best japanese players, they are moving around the screen more, seem to know when to interrupt all characters setups, more fuzzy guarding, and use less moves with bad risk/reward ratio. Generally faster playing, without prolonged times of doing nothing, more down guardin and crouch dash etc.

Or could the best players on psn who is somewhat active give a challenge?

I've fought some of the top ranking players on PSN and they are not that great. They certainly didn't take me apart like I thought they would and I even managed to beat them a few matches. I'm no expert either...

A lot of the actual best players on PSN (the real best players, not the cheaters who got there by disconnecting when they lose) are tournament players. Offline and online play are very different due to lag. Many things that work offline don't work online and vice versa.

You never know until they actually play each other and you need to put it into perspective, Final Showdown is an old game but it was only released to us living in the western world back in June 2012(?) so that's not even a year yet.

Less focus on others and more focus on yourself please. :D

Lag changes the game a good bit. Even on a perfect 3 bar connection there is still lag. a 1, 2, or 3 frame difference can mean a lot when it comes to poking, punishing, and all-around strategy versus certain characters.

Comparing online to offline isn't the best of ideas as both games are quite different.

Thanks for the answers. I was just curious, because they are like holy grail, the japanese players, at least in my world. I watch these vides of high level play, with perfect interrupts, advanced movements around the screen, and when i play online with people who just stand still ^^

Mainly because that type of movement is frame tight and it just doesn't work as well online.

Well, on Live we have strong players going back years who nobody had seen offline, but then turned up to events and competed with Japan head on. In general though, many of the truly great players are fairly well known arcade guys with a long pedigree, if their grades are legit (although plenty of them avoid Ranked entirely, and play only by arrangement in closed sessions). Even then though, against the cream of Japan, they're probably going to struggle, as those guys are just razor-tight on everything, and often have advanced, insider knowledge of char-specific sequences twinned with split-second, almost psychic yomi.

So... why don't you take your Jacky to the next level and beat the top players you're admiring so much?

I want to sit on my sofa playing and not just play once or twice on tournaments I would really love to just hang in the arcades in japan and just play all day long without having to work, that would be awesome :p

Might take a vacation to japan for 2 months though, and just hang in the arcades, when vf6 comes out :p When i will share the inside knowledge here on the forum.

Yep, got to agree with Panda here. This is exactly why we're so behind compared to the Japanese. If 90% of the Japanese players would rather sit on their sofa it'd be a different story.

Also, try actually attending some local tournaments before making statements like that. At bigger events there might be limited time for casuals but that's usually not the case for every event, you'd find there's plenty of time to play matches and actually discuss the game.

It also makes you shit at the game. No offense intended to anyone, it's just the reality.

To answer the original question there is a significant gap between the absolute Elite Japanese players and everyone else. I do think the best players in the west would be at the least good players in Japan though and can hang with anyone outside that Elite.

If we're talking about them playing online though, anything can happen. It's online.

I agree that the best jp arcade players will destroy everyone else from the another country, but do you guys think that the online for VF5FS really is unstable? I would say that the game on PSN is absolutely playable vs people from your region and within your continent. Also maybe some of the top players in Japan are actually playing this game online(when they cant go to the arcade). In Japan the i-net infrastructure makes playing games online a really pleasant experience according to many players.

The stability of online depends greatly on your connection, the connection of your opponent, whether you are on XBL or PSN, etc etc etc

Online is playable, yes. But there are many many many times when something that shouldn't be safe can't be punished because the -14 disadvantage is should have been at is now magically -7.

    Also, PSN sucks...

Just to chime in about japan's inet.

Japan is also the size of new york state so any connection even using USA infrastructure would be great. They also have just a plain better internet setup in that country so online games are great there.

Japan is near enough 3 times the land area of New York state. It still isn't a big country though and they have God tier internet. Netcode that is pretty shoddy likely feels fine to them because of the amounts of bandwidth everyone is rocking.

That said, though online is better for them i hear most of the best players vastly prefer playing in the arcade to online.

A 1 hour bullet train vs flying cross country is not a fair comparison.
Some folks like myself are hampered by RL and can't travel much.

GT has shown he can at least hang with the Elite. Our 2nd tier players almost can.

Your average online Darkslayer who isn't one of those- would likely just be "good"/"pot monster" in Japan.
