    Do you input /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, or do you do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif? Or am I completely off? Is it possible to apply to ETEG?

To do throw escapes, you use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, firstly. Then how you have it in the beginning is correct. You need a direction to accompany each /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif input. So for three separate inputs, it would be /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif.

There's nothing limiting ETEG to one throw escape, you can input as many as you're fast enough to input. Most people can get 2, I hear the best players can get in 4.

So when I buffer them with ETEG, do I buffer them by pressing P+G and still letting go of P? Or can I buffer them P+G, <- P+G (then release P)?

I was under impression that you have to release both buttons, or the game might think you are trying to do guard-canceled or buffered punch or what not.

The way I do it, I move the stick, and time pressing P+G when the joystick is in right position. Rotating the stick and timing presses to it is also one way. More often than not, its more about timing the inputs to the throw escape window rather than being as fast as you can.

Don't forget that you can escape neutral P+G as well, and thats useful in online play. (Lot of beginners and other people use P+G too)

Try to be exact with commands, its better to escape one throw than fumble trying to do Triple TE and escape none at all.

Also pay attention to whom your opponent is. Escaping /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif against Sarah will do you no good since she doesnt have a throw in that direction.

VF4evo had useful throw escape trial, but you can practise throw escapes in VF5 dojo too. Now you can set CPU to block and counter with throw, and you can even set which throws it uses. Do that, hit a slow move on block, and practise /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Pretty much yeah. Although it slightly depends on the situation. Keeping guard pressed in the end (release /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and keep guard pressed) will ensure you wont get whiffed throw animations if opponent doesnt throw.

After large disadvantage moves it is usually 'by the book' to do buffered evade-multiple throwescapes-guard. However many TEs you can manage. Back in Evo, Ryan Hart showed that you can do evade - 4 TEs and still guard, although I advise against trying this without lots of training /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Two throwescapes would be good number to aim at first.

In guaranteed punishment situations theres usually no point in doing evade, so just hammer in as many TEs as you think you can manage and guard at the end.

ps. Low throws are escaped with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif

From the end of the throw escape guide:

    ==============================================
technique for entering multiple throw escapes
    ==============================================
A good technique for entering in multiple throw escapes is to make
a half circle motion with the joystick and tap P+G at the appropriate
directions. A common pattern emerges: f+P+G,df+P+G,b+P+G. As noted
above, it will work against 11 of the 18 characters, and Sarah is the
mirrored motion b+P+G,db+P+G,f+P+G. A further refinement is to
classify the characters as HCF or HCB. You want to start your throw
escape attempts at the most popular direction, f or b.

I advise using the below inputs when trying to escape multiple throws.

    HCF:
    b,df,f: Lion, Jacky, Brad
    b,d,f: Kage, Pai, DS Vanessa

    HCB:
f,df,b: Wolf, Jeff, El Blaze, Goh, Aoi, Lau, Lei, OS Vanessa
    f,db,b: Sarah
    f,df,d: Akira (quarter circle down)

    b,n,f: Shun, Eileen

Instead of making a half circle motion for Shun and Eileen, I
suggest moving the joystick straight across the horizontal:
    b+P+G,n+P+G,f+P+G.

Another advantage of this technique is that you can almost
completely deny some characters from throwing you.

b,df,f: denies Lion and Jacky of all but their n+P+G throw
f,df,b: denies Lei Fei and OS Vanessa of all but their n+P+G throw
f,db,b: denies Sarah of all but her n+P+G throw
b,df,f: denies Shun and Eileen of all their direction throws, but as
stated above, Shun and Eileen are the most likely opponents
    to use their n+P+G throws

I personally think not escaping df for shun is a mistake. d/f has 2 of his most powerful throws.

Very nice guide. I was looking for something like this to know best throws to escape per character without poring over the frame data.

You're one of the best Shun's I've faced, so I respect your input. (You've dominated my Sarah every time we've faced off on XBL /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif )

One of my original goals in writing the guide was prioritizing the top 3 throw directions to escape vs. each character. I prioritized Shun's most likely used throw directions as:

    1. n
    2. b
    3. f

What do you think is the correct order? Which directions are you most likely to be using?

Maybe I'm putting too much emphasis on using the n+P+G throw to get drinks... Perhaps it's me thinking more like a VF2 or VF3 player, when Shun didn't have as many options as he does now to pick up drink points.

Denkai, you're a very good Shun player too, if you read this, what are you're prefered throw direx for Shun?

Against Shun, the two Throw Escapes (TE) you should always enter are /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/n.gif (neutral) and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif, IMO.

Neutral does good damage, easy to perform, and gives Shun Drink Points (DP) (Important!), while /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif is a combo starter netting him some good damage.

The third throw escape is situational. In general, I go /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif for my third. It covers his normal /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif throw, as well as his 270/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif once he has 10 DP. The 270/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif throw does a lot of damage and gives him 4 DP! This throw hurts!

As a general rule, you shouldn't be escaping /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif. Shun's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif throw actually sacrifices DPs, so Shun players rarely use this throw, especially if they value retaining their DPs. Other than that, Shun's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (with side switch followups) is a great RO tool, so I'd only be adding /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif into my TE list if my back or sides are to the ring edge.

    In Summary:

    General: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/n.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif
    RO threat: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/n.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif

(I would actually enter the latter as: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/n.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif)

I think it's worth mentioning as well, that if you have trouble doing 3 throw escapes at once, it's not necessarily the move you want to put in work perfecting.

That is, correctly predicting the single throw escape you need is the superior option to blindly hitting as many directions as you can. Many of the top players have the finger dexterity for 3-4 throw escapes every time they use them... but many of those same players only bother inputting 1, they just make sure it's the right one.

Thanks for the guide, Yupa /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Half-Circle method works well for those that can do it.

I wish I could do that, but I always botch it up...

I'd like to make a throw-hierarchy guide eventually--as subjective as that is. Priority is a tough one outside of the very best throws though...

    Something along the lines of:

Kage: you pretty much always want to escape /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif, but I don't know how to prioritize after that. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif?

Shun: DTE /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/n.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif is essential. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif after that, but as mentioned above, in specific (ring out) situations /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif should be factored.

Lion: DTE /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif does the trick. You help Lion further reach his destination as a low damage character if you simply escape just these two directions.

Akira: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif are prioritized. I personally worry about /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif the most. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif for ring out.

    Anyways, just ideas...

    Chanchai,

I don't do the half circle method myself... *blush* I describe it, because it's the best method that I've heard of to enter in multiple throw escapes.

I usually go for 2 escapes, and wrote the guide initially to prioritize the 2 most likely throws vs. each character, and mention the third most likely throw for once your opponent starts mixing it up.

    Again, from the guide:

    highest *priority* escape directions:
    vs. Akira f,df,d
    vs. Aoi f,b,df
    vs. Brad df,b,f
    vs. Eileen b,f,n
    vs. El Blaze f,b,df
    vs. Goh f,b,df
    vs. Jacky b,df,f
    vs. Jeffry df,f,b
    vs. Kage b,d,f
    vs. Lau f,df,b
    vs. Lei Fei f,df,b
    vs. Lion b,f,df
    vs. Pai b,f,d
    vs. Sarah f,db,b
    vs. Shun n,b,f
    vs. Van (DS) b,f,d
    vs. Van (OS) f,df,b
    vs. Wolf f,b,df

We essentially agree about the characters you mention, except for Shun. I need to reavaluate him again.

For Shun I'd guess these throw escapes:

    1. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (neutral throw - damage + drinks)
    2. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (throws leading to big combos)
    3. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif=damage and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif - MEGA DAMAGE + drinks)

When a good Shun player has 10+ drinks then they should do the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif throw in place of the neutral /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif as it's better in every way - so guess /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif first.

Do you base yours escapes on reaction or prediction?

I don't understand how people can see a throw, recognize this move as a high throw, and then input 3 directions throw escape.

I try to throw escape only on major disadvantage when I get punish anyway.

  18. Yupa

    Yupa Well-Known Member

I do multiple throw escapes when there's nothing else I could do anyway. i.e. I'm at 12 or more frames of disadvantage. My opponent may choose to hit me with a guaranteed (quick) minor counter, but many players will go for the higher damage potential of a throw.

I'll also enter in side throw escapes when an opponent quick rolls to the side to avoid my pounce. Again, my opponent has attacks that will hit guaranteed, but if they went for the throw, I'll escape it.

I'm also finding other places to enter in throw escapes (using Sarah) During the flamingo back flip escape-- Sarah is pretty much invulnerable to any attacks, but she can be thrown out of it. Also during the wind up animation of catch throws. I've found by tapping /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif multiple times after entering the command for the catch throws, you have the abilitly to escape an opponent's throw if they tried to throw Sarah.

I'm trying to do the following whenever I go for the gatling kick throw (when I'm not being lazy... =)
    [flamingo]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
Just keep holding the stick forward after the throw command and then quarter circle down while tapping out /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif's.

Well I just noticed something weird in Dojo: unless I am hallucinating, there is no need to keep G held after ETE or EDTE, there is no throw attempt after evade (successful or not). This doesn't seem to work for triple throw escape, or maybe I am just too slow.
