How to stop his continuous offense?

I don't really know him very well so excuse my ignorance. But I ran into a player online and he was able to continually keep the offense going, and his attacks didn't have any disadvantage I could capitalize on block.

What are the best ways to stop him from attacking? In general, I use Sarah and Eileen if that helps.

You didnt say what character the other player used.. Anyway Sarah and Eileen both have the fastest basic punch in the game so it should be you doing the rushing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Majority of the moves in game are disadvantage on block, but you must react fast.

Try following moves or series against a masher: (Note: this is for someone who doesnt know what they are doing. Learning characters better helps). This is bit silly giving masher advice against a masher.

I don't know how one would beat an expert Lei, but if you are fighting an average Lei here are things to watch out for and what to do:

Most average Leis rely on basically two things to get a "rush" going.

    1.PP or PPP string
    2. P,P+K string from d+P+K+G stance.

(Most other moves leave him disadvantaged on block so you will have to recognize them.)

Both of them put the defender in tricky situations on block. The primary weapon against Leis who abuse these pattern is to DODGE. The majority of his moves, including the ones that come out after PP/PPP stance transitions are linear and if you play right the reward is huge when you dodge correctly. (For #2, the second hit can be dodged even if you block the first I believe.)

Of course, even scrub Leis know how to mix up sweeps to catch both dodgers and those who stand and block. But the good news is that even if you eat sweeps a few times, you should be able to deal even greater damage on a successful dodge.

Another way to deal with his PP/PPP string is to anticipate it coming and use a move that goes under these high moves. d+P is the most basic. Some characters like Lau have combo starters that go under high punches. Again, depending on what kind of character you use, the reward can be huge for anticipating PP/PPP right.

Good Leis would know how to defeat dodgers by canceling out of stances and throw. But that's another story all together.

The mashing Lei players can be tough if you're not used to it. Many of the crazy mixups come from the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif string.

However, today I faced this Lei player who relied on the almighty /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. I'm serious when I tell you I played him several times and he did the same thing every time. Whenever I'd hit him with a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, a stagger move or anything that put him at a disadvantage, he would simply mash the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif button. If you're not careful against this move (which gives Lei major advantage on hit, plus it's special high which means it can beat low moves under the right circumstances), it's easy to get owned by it. I'm assuming this move has high priority online due to latency, but whatever.

Apparently he was having much success against people with this strategy, so he felt no need to stop this robotic style of play. This guy would mash /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (which goes to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif) stance, then mash /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif some more to get the mid kick float from there (which transitions into /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif stance), then mash /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif once again for the double jump kick.

The way I dealt with it was like this:
I noticed that any time he managed to hit me with or made me guard the almighty /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, 100% of the time he would go for the mid kick float. He would always follow with the double jump kick from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif stance or sometimes /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif even if I blocked the initial /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif stance floater kick. He would also mash the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif string into /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif stance, followed by /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif float once again. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif puts Lei even with the opponent on guard, but because of his extremely fast /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif stance, he can easily beat your high jabs as well as your mids from there. If your character has a fast low kick you can try using that, but you may get lauched if you don't react quickly. Don't use sweeps here because they're too slow. Your best bet is to wait and see what he does.

With a high rate of success, I managed to OM /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif into his side for massive damage as soon as he attacked with a linear move from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif stance. Don't use OM /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif because /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif stance autoparries all single-limbed punches. The timing is a little tricky because he can delay things a bit, but the rewards are great. I also did the same thing against the charge punch, but that's pretty risky though.

So the moral of the story is: Evade, then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif into his side for a massive side stun, followed by your character's bounce/refloat move, which in Sarah's case is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. I'm not sure what the Eileen one is, but I'm sure someone can help you out.

Afaik normal /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif its -10 on block at least in ver.B. Explain the advantage on block part. (the online play fudges up advantages so bad Ive started really getting pissed off) Also you can just crouch under it and do far reaching mid like sidekick (or with Lion, the almighty /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, Eileen /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif Sarah /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif)

Id not try offensive move when online Leis go to Hai Shiki because they often do a low sweep as well. Better to interrupt their followups with a launcher.

If it werent for the low sweep, it would be pretty easy to evade their next move out of Hai shiki and launch them.

Sorry, forgot to edit that part.

Yeah, the online screws up the frames a bit, so it's unclear how much disadvantage he has. I've been launced from it enough to be very safe against it on guard. Basically if you mess up with your reaction time that stance is really hard to beat sometimes, especially they go right into the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif string right away. Maybe it's just my connection. I've played against some good Lei's and they really know how to keep the offense going, so I usually try to stay defensive even when I block the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. Basically, low kick is the best option for me since he can't guard right away, but that doesn't give much counterhit advantage online, so he can just mash the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif again. But yeah, I was mainly talking about evading the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif stance when I was mentioning OM /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. After I block the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif string I just use a crouching fast low kick if my char has it.

After countless matches of having the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif strike interfere with my string – I have learned a counter-measure against it, so most of these posts are moot against an experienced Lei-Fei user.

After the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif string I use Bokutai* (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif) which dodges /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, and follow up with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (which puts you in the Ure Ne Han Shiki position), /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (if they're guarding high), and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (x3), or I could switch it up if they figured out my pattern and use the deflection attack that subsequently follows the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif after Bokutai (which can be done with either /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif respectively) or follow up with the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif mid attack sequence.

Now, if the person starts to do a low kick – just do a kick after the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif string and launch the person into the air. They’ll think twice about trying to low kick after they’re juggled around for a bit.

*This also tends to work on sidesteps/defensive moves if you’re patient enough to wait for Lei-Fei to follow their movements once he’s completed the Bokutai. Most of Lei-Fei’s attacks are linear, so sidestepping is an expert’s primary tool against us.

Yup. But he also has access to the (unsafe) low sweep from several stances. Ive used (bokutai) K+G myself on occasion for catching people trying to evade hai shiki. Although that kick is not fully circular afaik but its safe on block.

I haven't lost to a Lei-Fei user in days. The best defense against a Lei-Fei user is an unpredictable offense and an occasional low-block. Simple as that, unless you're fighting a super experienced player.

Of course I'm going to use a certain combination if it constantly works on the opponent -- the same notion applies to the use of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. If you would have started to block /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif I would have used: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif while you were blocking low. If it's the latter, I usually alternate between /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, and low sweeps to get in as much damage as possible from the juggle.

I don't remember if I lost against you, but I only have around 90 losses online (350+ wins). Most of them are to Pai, Eileen, and Akira users. At any rate, if I kept using the same combination in a match -- I would have most likely won.

I must ask, what's your online rank? Win percentages can be very misleading considering many people accumulate dozens and dozens of wins battling 10 Kyus. If your strategy is working on 7 Dans and above on a constant basis, then you know you've got something.
