  1. How To Whup High King Ass w/ Lei Fei ... and a question.

    Hello - long time reader, first time poster who can't seem to find deep info on Lei Fei's deflection attacks anywhere. I really need help on this, so in return I offer this;

    I've discovered a... 'flow', I think is the term - I don't know - for Lei that works against any Kumite opponent I've ever come across, including any High King. It is this;

    Begin nearly every round with [P]+[K], [P][P] -> [8][P]. This works for me like a charm. Lei Fei is a mid-distance fighter, so the rest is just keeping them at a distance, and having your Shaolin Tao with them.

    Go into Independent Stance (or Crane Stance, or Dokuritsu Shiki, or whatever - [8][P]+[K]+[G]), and prepare to control your opponent. If they start coming in all tentative and slow, back them up. Hit them with
    [P] from Dokuritsu Shiki to push 'em back, and if it hits or not, follow up quick with [P][P]+[K] (a good series when you're shooting for a ring-out, as well)
    The last two punches will hit about 40% of the time. And if not, the series will inspire your opponent to throw a punch of their own. Back to Dokuritsu Shiki. Chuck 'em down - down attack - we're back to where we were.

    They'll come in again - usually with a high kick to knock you out of your Dokuritsu Shiki.
    Now the best thing to do is Lei's nice big combo, and very common knowledge to you all, from Dokuritsu Shiki:
    the low kick
    [2][K]
    that leaves you in Hai Shiki. Follow with the snap kick
    [K]
    that puts you in Dokuritsu Shiki - go back to Hai Shiki
    [2][P]+[K]+[G]
    and do the
    [P] [P]+[K]
    again, then pop 'em up a bit more;
    [9][K]+[G]
    and end the light down attack
    [3][K].

    And repeat. If you're not in Dokuritsu Shiki and they're too close for comfort, block and go for a throw.

    I know it sounds all stupid and simple - it probably is - but it'll clean the clock of any High King Kumite tries to throw at me. Unfortunately, I have no human opponents to try my skills against and evolve et cetera.

    But my question;

    I'm having problems with Lei's "sabaki" attacks - if that's the right word. The attacks are:
    [2][3][6][P][K] from Normal Stance
    [P]+[K] ([P][P])from Nehan Shiki
    [P]([K]) from Nehan Shiki
    [P] from Koko Shiki

    These are the ones I know of. I can pull off the deflections about 40% of the time, but not consistently. As well, I've seen [P] from Nehan Shiki deflect kicks - I didn't think that was supposed to happen.

    Can someone please tell me the exact reveral properties (and timings) for these moves of Lei's? Plllleease please and thank you.

    Hi there,

    If you're playing Evo, this might be what you're looking for.

    Otherwise, the Version C movelist contains all the reversal properties for Lei's moves except for the timings, which you're just going to have to get a feel for on your own.

    I tend just to play against my partner, who's my only human competition - but lately I've been giving Kumite a shot for some variety. I'll give your strats a try. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Best of luck,

    The sabaki windows for some attacks differ, but one thing all sabakis seem to have in common is this -

    The sabaki attack must start AFTER the opponent's move. Like if you want to deflect a knee from tiger stance, they must press [6]+[K] first, then you press [P] to deflect it and crumple them. If you attack first, there's a very good chance your sabaki will fail to deflect their attack (by my experience it always does). The sabaki attack might still hit the way any other attack does.

    PS: I don't know the terms "nihan shiki" and "koko shiki" I figured out they are the stances... are these the japanese names? There are probably some Lei Fei experts who can help better than I can, but they don't know which moves you mean.

    LOL! For God Sake CreeD.. that's what i told you guys long ago. You should've left the terms in japanese, and used them exactly as they were initially called by the japanese community. And you can even hear them saying the names in the audiance sounds in VF4 videos. That's why i prefer saying Doppo Choushitsu than Knee. I'm just used to it. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    Yes, the version C list was what I needed, thank you - I just had to take my time to understand the notation.

    Far as I know, the stances are:
    [8][P]+[K]+[G] = Dokuritsu Shiki (Independent Stance / Crane Stance)
    [2][P]+[K]+[G] = Hai Shiki (Defeat-Miss System)
    [1][P]+[K]+[G] = Nehan Shiki (Evade Stance)
    [6][K] = Koko Shiki (Tiger Stance)

    On the note of Lei's sabaki Double-Palm:
    I've heard it's always best to follow this up with [2][P]+[K][P], to end in Tiger Stance. But I get more damage if I do this:

    [2][3][6][P]+[K]---[6][6][K] (hold for Crane Stance)---[K]+[G]---[2][K]
    Double-fist ---pop 'em up------------------float'em---and down for good measure.

    Lei's [4][6][P]+[K] works as well to start, and if you're fighting someone who won't get up in a wink, you can go with his heavy down attack for 103 damage.

    It's an option.

    hey i just thought of this
    you can do this after [2][3][6][P]+[K], [6][6][K], [K]+[G]
    instead of [2][K], quickly [3][3][K]+[G],[K],[K]+[G].
    you can hit all three, i believe.. I didn't try it, but
    it worked with [DM][P]+[K](fully charged), [4][P],[P], [3][3][K]+[G],[K],[K]+[G].

    heh, how have we survived all this time without your guidance!

    You'll forgive me if I keep using the self-explanatory english terms instead of 5 syllable foreign terms for simple stuff like knee.... since 99% of the people on this board speak english /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif ... can you imagine how many thousands of questions we'd get if we said "doppo choushitsu" instead of knee?

    I did some more tests on that double-palm combo:

    [2] [3][6][P]+[K]---[6][6][K]---[K]+[G]--[3_][K]

    It turns out they can struggle out of the combo between the [6][6][K] and the [K]+[G].

    But I've found another good flow with it - it works well with the method for higher level Kumite opponents, and you can slip it in right after the [P][P]+[K] from Hai Shiki. Chances are they'll go for a punch anyway, so sabaki!

    [2][3][6][P]+[K], then the [2][P]+[K][P].
    You can continue with the sabaki from tiger stance: [P], and the same two follow-ups, [2][P]+[K][P]. Repeat. It looks slow, but it's all about timing.

    Last night just repeating the [P], [2][P]+[K],[P] from tiger stance got me through a high king Lau and a dragonlord Wolf - never threw a kick.

    I've never had success with his [3][3][K]+[G] et cetera within a combo - I'll give that a shot.

    hmm ya...
    but dont use [3][3][K]+[G]-[K]-[K].
    [3][3][K]+[G]-[K]-[K]+[G] is better
    after the full charged up attack, then [4][P],[P],
    i did that and it was about 130 damage
    that's pretty goooood..
    anyways.. ya got any more decent combos?

    Do you mean the charged [P]+[K] from [2][P]+[K]+[G]?

    I use that most when I knock someone down and they roll backwards - if they follow with a rising attack, the [P]+[K] will always hit - I follow with the [4][K]+[G]-[K]-[2][K] usually - you're saying I should do the [3][3][K]+[G]-[K]-[K]+[G] instead on that one?

    Where do I put in the [4][P]-[P]?

    umm.. you should do the [3][3][K]+[G],[K],[K]+[G] after the [4][P],[P].
    try it.. it's quite nice
