Ok, so I've recently got into Zombie movies and enjoyed quite a few. Today, I got to watch this Japanese movie, Ichi the Killer, and I've got almost sickened to puke.

I don't know how&why but somehow I sit through watching it till the end. Anyone else has seen this movie? It's just too disturbing to me and I didn't get what the director is trying to say in the film at all except for some hardcore display of violence.

Takashi Miike always goes over the top with violence (and sometimes sexual perversion). It's kind of a trademark for good and for bad but sure - it's a overrated movie that lives of shockvalue. However, Takashi Miike has done many great movies so don't give up on him as a director yet. The only thing you can expect is that the movie is fucked up basicly.

Watch movies like the Audition and Zebraman and stay clear of movies like Visitor Q. If you really want to see him go into violence without a point mode you have the recent Izo to watch for comparision. Some people like this however and see it as something borderline of a troma/splatter movie and pure genious with a stylish element.

Akira_PH; Go to imdb.com and look for it. He wanted opinions on the movie from others who had seen it, not recapping it for those who haven't ;P

Catherine and I watched it. It's the most disturbing film I've seen. Took a while to forget some of the imagery - the arm removal and the killing of the woman who was fellating him (ankle severment) stick in my brain. Nipple slice is pretty much ingrained, too.

    *shudder*

I think the plan was to show as much violence and depravity as possible.

The question I have: In the final scene when the boot blade enters the blonde assasin's (I forget his name) forehead, why is the slice mark missing after he falls to the ground?

One theory is that the whole sequence after he punctures his eardrums is only a masochistic fantasy to make up for the disappointment of the reality of Ichi.

At first Ichi is a little hard to swallow, but watching it again you realise that the OTT violence is more tongue-in-cheek, than shocking.

Zebra-man is a brilliant film, very funny, especially when his wife and daughter are throwing themselves at him at the end.

I really enjoy Takashi Miike's films. I do realize his films are not for everyone, definetly not for the general public. My first Miike film I saw was the first Dead or Alive film and it has its shocking and perverse moments which I realized later is Miike's forte for all his films.

ITK is a S & M lover's wet dream which focuses more on the threshhold of pain. I know practitioners and performers who have done such acts featured in ITK in real life such as exotic piercings and body levitations with my own eyes so that wasn't shocking to me. Ichi's brutal slayings to me are just camp and cartoony, maybe I'm desensetized and is expected to me from his work.

Just to concur with Kiwe, if you didn't like Ichi DO NOT WATCH VISITOR Q. It has serious taboo material but it does have a message behind it.

Audition was a good film IMO that is not as extreme as Miike's other movies, I'd suggest you watch that Maddy and give us your feedback. It only gets bloddy in the end.

I'm intersted in seeing Gozu, One Missed Call and Izo. I only saw the first Dead or Alive film so I guess I should watch the next two.
