Over at IGN, there's a little news tidbit:

"Naka commented that we should expect to be playing Virtua Fighter 5 shortly in arcades. He even hinted at a home conversion, but stated that the game would debut first in the arcades."

there's also a MUCH better quality trailer there, but the link is broken from the article called "Sega's Future":
    http://ps3.ign.com/articles/651/651963p1.html

the clip is here, as are new stills they captured from it of most of the characters. Graphic whores can do a much better job discuussing power of Lindburgh from this media /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    http://cheats.ign.com/objects/760/760473.html

the clip is almost direct feed quality, so by moving the slider bar, you can actually check out a lot of close-ups, see the faces etc (Goh still has the Joker's mouth, Vanessa is much cuter, and Lau's hair has gone white). Seems that every stage shown is flat, square and has a low wall (sigh).

    Have Fun

I'm freakin scared to wish for a VF5 arcade gameplay film come christmas. It's like I would curse it or something.

Thanks Bryan for the update and keeping hope alive.

Ok, so yeah... let's add incredible juggling clowns, a stage fighting from MT. Everest where you risk losing the fight to frostbite, and what the hell why not - roller coasters that you can slam people into while saying "enjoy the ride..YES"

Seriously the stages are square and flat. Lets deal with them eh? Besides I don't background gimmicks distracting from a one on one fight. Other games focus on this aspect of fighting such as the Power Stone series, Energiez, etc. just fucking drop it jeez.

    Not jerky's fault.

SD just has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO CONTRIBUTE EXCEPT BITCH.

Each time something new comes out, all he does is bitch.

SD, you still want ur disco stage with dancing poles n stuff?

Like Jerky said, fucking just quit it, jeez

I dunno, I tend to agree with SD here: I'm really tired of the VF2/4 style stages, and long NOT for something like DOA, but something like.... VF3?

Seriously, even if they just changed the shapes, or had a square stage with tall grass, SOMETHING! The stages in VF1/2 were that way because of technological limits, a barrier VF3 broke. In VF4, every stage is essentially the same, aside from the choice of Wall or RO, breakable or non, high or short wall.

I think SC is a nice example of stages that have Walls, RO, AND variety. It's just something that makes the game more fun to play, having to think about the stage more. What's wrong with that?

I'm looking forward to a mix of stages too.

Maybe they could design 2 versions of each stage, one that's really flat and typical, and another that has some more interesting shapes, circular designs, etc.

Of course, we never know, they could be in the works =P

Ideally, I would like a variety of diff stages...somewhat like ur suggestion...but isn't that VF3?

    it's a 50/50

when vf4 came, ppl were happy to go back to flat...now ppl are voicing out for more variety to be available in 5.

I find both sides valid. Some like em flat..some like em bouncy.

What Sega will do is truly out of our control.

(actually, that's why I like SC so much. The settings are so fantastical...so much beauty in each stage
And bryan, what Jerky said...it's the bitchings from the same ppl that's finally annoyed me enuff for me to vent)

It's the bitching. The bitching the bitching the bitching. It just drives me insane when it's from the same people over the same things that we've all heard about. STOP BITCHING.

    For record:

    - I like VF3 stages

    - I like flat stages

    - I like stages with walls and without

I think it's safe to say that sega wanted a dynamic to work with stages that wasn't too much of a main aspect in the fighting engine. What with all that you have to check for it would be too cumbersome to concentrate on the fact that you're sitting on the shit end of a slope and a combo will ring out. (vf3 pai stage)

Its not bitching, its my personal fucking preferance. There were PLENTY of people who agreed with me that the VF4 series stages were a complete and unessisairy step backwards. There was no need to eliminate the varied stages, there could of been a happy mix. You can keep the varied stages for those that liked them and you can give the flat stages for people that can't deal with/handle varied stages.
I guess it also depends on your view of a fighting game. I for one do not have a problem with 99% consistency as opposed to 100%. For such a great developer as sega whose only focus is games, it really should not be so much of a problem. I guess the sega nuthuggers who can't see to hear a single gripe levied against them will always swing to their defense. Oh well.

Whoever manages to create balanced uneven stages will get my full respect, I dunno it' seems flat is just easiest way, why isn't fighting sports, mma/boxing etc on uneven platforms?
Since it's a game give the option for casual uneven stages, but flat for torni/serious matches is the best bet imo.

Listen, everyone has an opinion - and that's fine with me....

It's just that I (we've?) seen yours 18378912749813489128972891472x over this same subject matter dude and call me crazy, but if that's not bitching I don't know what is...

Quite frankly, I feel compelled to apologize to you because I hate being a venting asshole on a forum, but jesus dean - WE KNOW YOU DON'T LIKE FLAT STAGES! /versus/images/graemlins/blush.gif

    BIIIIIIIITTTTCHHHH!!!

anyways any stage shape is fine by me, unless its multileveled. I can imagine the legions of goh fans complaining about their lack of ringout potential compared to other characters in similar situations in vf5.

Lol..its cool...I just fail to see how that is different from everybody busting a nut on their moniter when they see the Vf5 trailer? Its all spewing of one forth or another that in the end is almost meaningless drivel.

    My thoughts are as follows:

-The new masked guy is awesome
-The new girl looks uninteresting at best
    -Shun looks even older
    -Jacky looks taller
    -Pai is hot
-I'd like to see something besides VF4 square stages, but if they don't change this I'm sure they'll change tons of other stuff to make it interesting...
