King of Colosseum (Various Versions) ... Anyone play?

Sometime this week my friends copy of King of Colosseum comes in. Not sure what version he ordered. I think there are about 3 or 4 different ones. Anyone had a chance to play any of them? I'm a huge fan of the Giant Gram and Toukon Retsuden wrestling games and was wondering if it is anywhere near as good as them. Also, any extra information you can throw in would rock as well. It looks sweet.

Actually, there are 2 versions of K.O.C. available at the moment. The Red Disc, released in December, covers New Japan, All Japan and MMA. The Green Disc, released in early March, covers Noah and Zero-One as well as fixing some of the bugs that were present in Red. Anyway, the game is very good but it takes a bit of time to get used to the grappling system. If you've ever played any of the Fire Pro games then you should have an easier time adjusting. Here's a site with some movies and info on the games... http://kocaccess.gswf.org/index.html

Nice. He said his copy is suppose to come in on Thursday. I can't wait myself. He got the Green Disc it seems which makes me very happy since I can beat the snot out of him with Jun Akiyama. The Akiyama Exploder will mop the floor with his precious Kobayashi. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif The MMA aspect of the game looks pretty sweet as well. Man this game seems sweet and perfect for wrestling geeks.

I hope the rumors of BAM bringing it to the states are real if it turns out as good as it looks.

I think BAM is pretty much gone/going under so the prospects of it coming stateside are not good. It almost certainly wouldn't turn a profit here anyway IMO. The only ones that would buy it would be puroresu fans and most of them would have already imported it. The vast majority of American fans like their wrestling games just like the "real" thing over here...all flash no substance. K.O.C., just like puroresu, is exactly the opposite.
BTW, the MMA portion is almost a totally different game. Most of the the MMA fighters are on the Red disc though. If you get both, you can combine them and have interpromotional matches. Everything from both discs is actually on the Green disc so all it takes is a quick swap at the beginning of each play session and you're set. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Don't you need the HDD to be able to combine them?

I think if you have the HDD you only have to do the swap once, instead of every time you start a new session. EVERYTHING from Red is on the Green disc. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Very nice. He just called me and said his wife just received a package that is suppose to be it. So that means sometime after 5pm "It's Rasslin' Time!". /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif If we turn out liking this a lot, then I can see us spending too much cash on the HDD and Red Disk. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

OMFG!! This is the greatest wrestling game ever. Movement is good, annoucers as active as Giant Gram, and the CCW is freaking massive. Hell, the MMA stuff is better than any of the UFC games. I still suck at it pretty bad, but I can beat it on 1 difficulty. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Trial Mode looks huge. Although, I'll be in 1-v-1 matches for awhile trying to figure out the timing of clutches and mounts better. The Powerball thing is a bit hoser, but allows for some quick fun I suppose. At least the PB's aren't as overpowered as Specials in Smackdown. Jun Akiyama rules!!!! If anybody reads this and is a Puroresu fan. Buy this game, before you buy any other wrestling game. It's that damn good!

Now to figure out how to Irish Whip my opponent. /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Irish whip is collar and elbow lockup (R1+triangle) and then R1 again. Powerballs ain't that bad really. By the time you get to use one, it's usually late in the match where that particular move could realistically end the bout. It adds some strategy too because you don't want to waste your powerballs early in the match when they'll likely be reversed. The mount timing seems quite a bit more difficult to get the hang of than the clutch timing IMO. I've pretty much gotten the hang of grappling save a few certain clutches (the choke slam clutch is still a bit iffy) but when I run into a shooter in Trial Road I have a bit of trouble when they mount. Anyway, here's a link to some FAQs that will assist your on your way. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://kocaccess.gswf.org/faqs.htm

Thanks for the faq link. We had already downloaded the Jerrold Ng one for Green, but it didn't have irish whip in it for some reason. Yeah, the timing is odd in mount and odd in standing, but I'm slowly getting the hang of it. The faq says to listen for a tapping sound in both instances, but it seems a bit awkward for now. My friend and I still had some good matches nonetheless.
