1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

OK, so I'm a noob, everyone's got to start somewhere, right? Then why do I have to take constant s**t for it? If I lose I'm a "noob", sometimes a "fag". If I win I'm a "scrub" (although I consider myself a noob, I wouldn't say I'm scrubby, I try my best to use a wide range of moves and techniques whenever possible and I never resort to mashing/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif). I switched from ranked to player matches in an attempt to get away from players who take it too seriously, and although this helped a bit, I still come across plenty of players who spew forth a torrent of abuse even if they're only slightly better than I am. What is with these people? Were they not themselves noobs once upon a time? What exactly are they trying to achieve? Cos it sure as hell doesn't seem like they're trying to encourage beginners to stick with the game and therefore strengthen the online community. I'm not easily rattled so I keep playing, but I can see how this attitude towards noobs would be enough to turn some of them right off VF, or at least the online matches. Conversely, I've come across many great players with fantastic attitudes, always ready to offer some helpful advice to improve my game. Unfortunately though, these players do seem to be rarer than the dicks.
And as though the headset-abuse isn't enough, I stumbled across a post on another VF forum (not this site) complaining how scrubby I was and that I kept joining his match despite consistently losing to him (I'd had the game for like 3 days and I was only trying to learn some new strategies, if u want to pick and choose who u fight then DON'T HOST MATCHES!). I won't name him as he did me, but he fights with Goh...
I suppose all I'm trying to say is please, a little encouragement for the noobs will go a long way towards maintaining a healthy VF5 online community. And to all the dicks, ffs just curb the abuse, it's only a game after all. You know who you are...

P.S. Is it fair to say that if you lose to someone who resorts to scrubby tactics then you must be a noob yourself?

P.P.S. Merry Xmas everyone!!!

Smoky is right. That is no way to encourage people who are new to this game. But unfortunately some people need to stroke there ego's a bit too much. I applaud you for making such a good point. We were all noobs at one point. So don't judge. Help them. You never know, they could improve.
Oh and I'm sorry unless you lose to scruby tactics consistently you ain't a noob.

Im almost 100% sure that the people with negative attitudes who flame you aren't the main people on this site. Before the XBL release of VF5, the VF community has been the most friendly IMO. Things have changed since then b/c a lot more people have picked up the game and if those are the people who talk trash, then that's a shame, cuz they're not in a position to since they're either noob too or slightly less noob. Just turn off ur mic lol and just suck it up i guess.. cuz ur gonna have to deal with it regardless:(

That is very unfortunate. I Guess I have been very lucky since I got the game and never had anyone throw any profanities my way or in any way being rude online.
Since I joined this forum, lurking about to begin with and then, not until recently being more active on it, Both here(shoutboxes are fun) and on IRC everyone's been friendly towards me. Either that or I haven't figured out that someone called me names.

I see you're in UK so If you want you can add me to your friends list. I wont be playing until boxing day since I'm going away but when I get back we can have some games if you'd like. I'm not very good but at least I wont be rude. On purpose.

normally it's less than 10% of my overall matches, someone will send an abusive message via text or voice. they all come from those who lose to me and being a bitch about it. as far as i know, i don't recognise anyone from this site. infact VFDC had been more noob friendly in the past couple of years.

I actually played a Jacky from the US yesterday that was quite the sore loser. He seemed to know what he was doing so i did accept his invite for a rematch but, in all honestly, i gave up and lost rounds on purpose after a couple of matches because i couldn't stand the abuse streaming through the headset.

I mean i KNOW Lion is annoying but, sweet Jesus, it's almost christmass - with a foul mouth like that i doubt Santa will visit the guy.

Whoever you were, the power of keep away compels you my son, keep your cool and don't try to out poke everything.

PS: oh, btw, could it be Lion has something to do with my 47% bad reputiation on xbox live?

abuse usually comes from those who equally dont know the game.
therefore cant even reckognize what they are losing to.

not always true online due to the lag issue,
I have nothing against people wanting to learn the game as yes your right we were all there one time, still am lol.
What would be good is using a bit of common sense every now and again,
it's best not to assume what people want online,
a bit of courtesy will go a long way in my opinion,

challenging someone all the time if their hosting could be annoying for the other person if they are in the middle of a high level ranking battle,
I've had it happen to me where I've been involved is some ranking battles and some kyu has joined inbetween which makes you lose your focus for that moment (no excuses but just making a point about the flawed online structure),
if you get beat down a few times by someone who is alot better than you maybe sending a pm and asking for a private match to learn things from is best, instead of constantly replaying them like 10 times in a row only to repeat the same mistakes and bore the other player (not saying you've done this but it's something which I'm sure has happened to a few players)
I'm sure most players would be happy to oblige,
the best way to learn this game (apart from dojo, theory etc) in my opinion is through people of your own skill level with the occasional match higher up to see how you are progressing.
All these little issues would be solved if sega took note and patched some of them with an update.

Everyone i've played from here, has had a good attitude. It's obvious they are playing the game to learn or have fun. I'm not sure why a lot of people on xboxlive are so insulting, maybe they are just sore losers.

Though I do find there's less people with bad attitudes playing VF5 than most games I play on live. Here's the kind of messages you can expect when you beat a low punch spammer in a ranked match.....

I only encounter a few jerks(For some reason, they happen to be from France? J/k) . My experience with this game online has been very postive. Everyone that l meet happens to be part of this site. This site doesn't tolerate putting members on the spot for their lack of skill. Unless, your a total ass, and your asking for it. Look a peoples GC tags to see if they're rocking VFDC or Virtuafighter.com in their motto or Bio. Hit up some of the above UK cats here. There cool peeps, YuuKun has a Mean El Blaze(We need to setup those matches man) and Mr Expert will give you nightmares with he's demonic, Aoi(She has to be possessed with the Devil the way you move here, lol) Plain and simple, screw that other site, we're very chill in here.

I usually don't put my headset on at night because I don't want to disturb my neighbors so I don't know if someone is screaming at me or not. No one has sent me a crappy message either, but then again, 99% of my games are with Japanese or Koreans.

As far as this community, and more specifiacally this forum...To be honest, I have always hated internet forums. Just about every forum I ever joined, I left just as quickly because it was over populated with jibbering, drooling, vacuous, by-products of incest. I won't name any names, but there are a couple of high-profile fighting game forums that fit that description perfectly. That being said, this forum has been great so far. Since I am new to VF, one of the first places I went was the dojo. I fully expected to see new players questions answered with the typical "Yooz da surch funkshin nooooob" and "lrn2play nub." Instead, I saw people...answering questions. Everyone seems pretty cool and laid back. I am very impressed with what I have seen so far and I am definitely glad I decided to start playing VF.

smoky, maybe you should use the 'submit review' option and block out those who trash talk. i've been using it for the past 3 weeks and it's been quite successful.

ShinobiFist, will give you a private match after christmas, i'm off on holiday early friday and will be back and free for a session on the 28th Dec. will let you know. thanks for the compliment, i'm just a learner with Blaze and hope to get a decent match with you. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

15. Thanks for posting this. I was a bit annoyed that I can't play VF online, now I don't care. It's always the same whatever kind of game you play online. In racing you're a wrecker, in shooters you're a TK'er or whatever they are called..
I don't care much about online gaming after reading this.

Actually Lion + keepaway can get you cursed out. Do you deserve it? No, but he's not what most americans would consider a cool character. I actually despise both the character and keepaway, but I won't curse you out over it. It's even worse if your connection is actually laggy.

Keepaway plus lag is a fast low hitting quick characters wet dream. Now add the "Eh" sound he makes during most of his moves
and viola! Neg Rep 4 you!

This is more a LIVE issue than VF-specific online players. It's the same situation in any other game. Teenage angst at its finest. It's just someting you have to deal with. But the pro's certainly do outweigh the con's. I've randomly run into a few people on here. Chief Flash gave me some helpful pointers on my Wolf, and a number of Masters have taught me a thing or two without even using the mic.

But that's what life is. I remember hitting the arcade, and while VF has never been very popular at any arcade I've frequented, Tekken has attracted many more talkative players than skilled ones. Still, gotta suffer through the hate for those quality players.

From my experience there are trash talkers in every online game. For VF, I have only had about 3-4 people send me profanity, etc. (sore losers basically)Just use the "avoid player" feature for dealing with those people. Most of the talented players I have faced have sent me a "GG" message even if they lost.

If people are getting pissed and calling you a "noob" for your gameplay when you are winning- then take it as a compliment!! If they are truly talented players, they will find a way to get around your tactics. Nothing cracks me up more than hearing the other player yell "LEARN SOME MOVES NOOB!!!"- all while I am beating the living daylights out of them.
