A poster here asked me if I could link him to some Minami Akira videos. Unfortunately VFDC spasmed, and I lost the reply *ugh*, so instead....I am just gonna make this thread for everyone, here it goes.
    - - - -
As most of us know, Minami Akira is a very unique player, and a he applies his playing technique to the character Akira.
    - - - -
His "claim to fame" or whatever you want to call it, was winning the Sega Hosted Kakutou Shinseiki II Tournament.

Since then, he has had several Kumite events hosted with him as the guest, and has used his unordthadox playstyle to maintain a 90%+ win ratio since the tournament.

On a side note, the reason he has little matches compared to other players, is because before he won the KSII tournament, he lost his character card, and was forced to start at zero.... /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
    - - - - -
For the videos, so far I will only list the file names, VF.Evo has most of these files, or will get them soon.
    - - - - - -
    Videos From A-Cho:

Thesee videos are from his Kumite:

acho_vf_20030518a SH vs AK. Here you will see Minami use the SpoD and Yoho to good success, as well as his signature movements around the ring.

acho_vf_20030518b JA vs AK. Here you will see Minami use several crouching forward dashes right in row to duck under high attacks and whiffed throws, which allows him to use d+f+p+g. Notice the use of the guard interupting moves.

acho_vf_20030518c KA vs AkK. This is one of the best comebacks, period. Minami goes from basically NO life in the last round, to an amazing comeback in the fifth, really fantastic play here. Highlights are: Yoho after Kage whiffs the FC upper, and Kage using a HP reversal first move for the fifth round.

acho_vf_20030518d SH vs AK. This is the same Shun player from the first video here, this is a great match too. All around good play here, and some risky moves by both players. Take note of: The end of the second round, Minami advances in run, then halts to high gaurd, and buffer in f,f in the high gaurd, as soon as his opponent leaves an opening, he releases g, and rips loose with a counter SDE, sweet! After he wins the round with d+f+k, he sobers Shun up with two standing palm, and then b,d+f+p.

From Team Matches (mostly 3 on 3):

acho_vf_20030713d SA vs AK. Minami is only in the last match of this video, and he faces a Sarah opponent. This match goes to the fifth round, and Minami ends up winning to due a well timed Yoho after a quick roll allow him to evade a two string canned attack of Sarah's. The fourth round is also a nice comback by Minami.

acho_vf_20030713e AK vs JA, KA, JA. All three of these matches are of Minami vs an opponent of the opposite team. Each match has probably 2 or 3 reversals in it at least. If you need a resource for when reversals are most appicable in matches, this is certinaly a good one.
    - - - - -
    `Texas Evolution Videos:

These videos are also from another Kumite Featuring Minami.

star_030605_kumite01AK vs JA. This match is a pretty good example as a way to punish opponents (as JA) who like to evade. Every time Minami tries to evade, the Jacky player counters it with a delayed striking attack, or a half/full circular attack. In the last round Minami only gets a low punch in.

star_030605_kumite02 AK vs SH. This video is a good lesson for SH players as much as AK players. As the SH player could have won the fourth round, he even expected it. What happens is that, the SH players expected that his second p during a float combo would KO Minami, and allow him to go in to HCF stance and take p+k+g drinks, unfortunately for him, Minami is left with a small amout of life left, and then moves in on the SH player who manages to switch to high guard just in time to eat a low kick /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Sega AM2 media is yet to come, I will add that on later. PS: His first 9 matches on his card are all on the KSII video, including matches vs Chibita, Heruru and others. You might want to get an early start on getting that file.

No offence to u or anything EmpNova but i dont think this treahd was neccesary as it's probably just gonna end up being a copy of of other threads which have Minami akira vids in them.

Another poster wanted Minami videos, but my reply to him as PM was "lost," so instead I was just going to make a list for him, and now others, on the media thread.

If you wanted Minami clips, there is NO way of distinguishing files from another when they are labled like Acho_xxxx_## etc. This is so people can know which clips are of him, rather than have to view each individual file.

Someone asked me to do this, so I am going to, I know it is not necessary.

    Nice post.

This is the most informative piece I've read on the subject of Minami Akira. Excellent content. Good work.

For whatever it's worth, I have no objection to it. A post sorting movies by famous players isn't a bad idea at all, there are a lot of us who have a pet player and want to see all the movies of that player specifically (for me it's arashi's goh).

Yes IMHO this is a very useful thread to any Akira players interested in Minami Akira and I am definately one of them.It would be nice if other members could do something similar for other well known high level japanese players as, like mentioned, it would save lots of other people the time of trawling through many randomly named files. If you could find and post any creed, I'd love to see more of Arashis Goh as well. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah.. This thread rocks. I think It would be even better

if direct links are provided with the descriptions. I will

try to sort out the files and find the files that match to

    the descriptions which Empnova wrote.

PS. hey Empnova, do you know how to do Minami

step? If you have an idea, I'd like to know. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif later.

Hey I know how to but its actually courtesy of Myke.In his words...

    As for twitch CDing:

    Single crouch dash:[1][1]
    One twitch:[1][1][1]+[G][1]
    Two twitches:[1][1][1]+[G][1][1]+[G][1]
and so on just keep adding [1]+[G][1] for more.
You need to tap [G] quickly to ensure your stepping doesn't get bogged down as it were.Essentially its G-cancelling one crouch dash then inputing another and can work forwards and backwards.

These are Mykes words of wisdom not mine but there is a full discussion of it some where on the boards /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

In all of his matches you can see him use the "Minami walk." He also has a "technique" where he high gaurds and buffers in commands, like f,f (for the DE or SDE) or b (for sngplm or backdash).

The Minami "step," what have you, requires a ton of effort on your part. The purpose is that he can shift from several "positions" in any given second, shift around the ring very fast, allow him to either initiate the next attempt at attacking, or allow his opponent to attack (in which case he can (crouching)backdash and move in for a counter), also he has several options of what to do during the "step," so let's say that he is at a fair distance from his opponent, while he is in the backdash or g cancelling portion of his "step" he can buffer in a modified dblplm, or even buffer in the f,f,f for a SDE or DE. The Minami "step" is there for intimidation, while also setting him up for significant amount of options in terms of intiating (usually striking) attacks on his opponent.

The Minami step takes practice, alot. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

For those of you who don't know, Team Tabara Thread was stuffed with Arashi Goh matches, most of them are vs Tsuchimo.

    Now onto more Minami clips!
    - - - - - -
All of these clips are various Sega-AM2 clips. They will be from either, KSII Tournament, or his Kumite (and one from Chibita's Kumite).
    - - - - - -
    Kakutou Shinseiki II Tournament Matches:

There is the large file on this thread, the "KSII fixed" thread to be exact. I suggest getting that file if you don't have it, as there are a myriad of high level matches there, including at least six full matches of Minami Akira. This is the tournament that he won, this tournament was the Sega Nationals for VF4 Evolution.
    - - - - -
    KSII Videos:

-Shinseiki_02 AK vs LI. This is the Minami vs Chibita match, and boy was this a good match. Things to take note of are, when Minami throws out a blocked b,f+p+k he follows it up with a modified (back dash) shrm, instead of the traditional evading throw escape guard. Notice the use of the dblplm too.

-Shinseiki_03 AK vs KA / LE. The first match is shows Minami use some truly remarkable moves. Watch as he evades a half circular attack from Kage (k+g) and slams into Kage with a mC SDE, he soon wins the round with his favorite move, the dblplm. In the second round, both players are at a good distance between each other, Minami (knowing Kage has no moves that can hit him), uses d+f+p+k+g to switch from closed to open stance, this is subtle, yet can affect the outcome of the match, Minami likes to "set up" a situation, some said, "even when Minami loses, he controls the match." In the last round, Minami has his d+f+p+g throw escaped, he suspects that Kage will attempt either a throw, short range jab, or low punch. Minami back dashes to avoid a low punch, and hits a SpoD almost immediately after, amazing. He lands d+f+p+g and sacrafices the free down attack to "hop" over his opponents body for better positioning in the ring, to avoid a ring out.

-kaku2f01c_02 Firikkusu(Lau) vs MinamiAkira. Opens up the second round with a forward crouching dash into dblplm. Keeps his distance for the rest of the second round, which allows him the luxury of not having to anticipate Lau's moves, as much as he has to hit Lau after the initial move execution, or even during a move's recovery, and consequently, he gets an Excellent!! victory. Third round opening sees Minami landing a Moukokouhazan (b+p+k+g with the f+p follow up), where he lands F+p f,f+kk, I think he sabaki's a high p. After a blocked low backfist, he follows up with a shrm p dlc combo.

-kaku2f02c_01 MinamiAkira vs Kaede(Aoi) Second round, Minami backs off and holds a crouch, as soon as Aoi makes an attack, Minami unleashes with the dblplm.

-kaku2f03c_01 MinamiAkira vs Minarai (Aoi) The first move of the match is Minami using d+f+p+k+g to go from close to open stance. Many people say Akira is a linear character (he is), but watch Minami punish Aoi with a delayed shrm to couner an evade /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif, he flops the follow up though. He slams a dblplm into Aoi when she uses the Y-Y evade. The third round he throws out a whiffed low punch reversal, and again switches stances with d+f+p+k+g.
    - - - - -
Forgot This /versus/images/graemlins/blush.gif: acho_vf_20030518c KA vs AK. In the last round, the Kage player decides not to take the light down attack after the d+f+p+g throw.....which most likely cost him the match, as Minami needed only one more hit for a loss.

    Minami Kumite part 1

These are the videos from his Kumite part 1. This will be part one as VF.Evo has yet to host all of the movies, they are missing:

    vfexh_0504_13
    vfexh_0504_15
    vfexh_0504_17
    vfexh_0504_19
    - - - - - - -

-vfexh_0504_02 MinamiAkira vs Chibita (Lion). Minami Sabaki's Lions b,b+k with the b+p+k+g, but when he connects with the canned f+p follow up, the usual f,f+kk is not going to connect, so he attempts a body check, which whiffs, a move that would have connected would be a very fast modified dlbplm. Round 2, Chibita escapes the d+p+g throw from Minami, but Minami follows up with the backturned body check, which Mc's on its hit. Most people who face Minami anticipate him when he closes a gap to do it with a mid or high attack, as Akira does not have very good low options. So it is no surprise when Minami uses multiple forward dashes to close the distance, and KO a high guarding Chibita with a low kick.

-vfexh_0504_03 MinamiAkira vs KA. Notice in the first round, one of Minami's favorite flow charts to use is a DE, then a modified dblplm. The reason is that if the DE gets an mC hit, the dblplm is guarenteed (when modified) for a follow up. Even if the DE is blocked, if the opponent attempts nearly anything, the dblplm will have priority over it, and Minami will connect again. The only way to counter this is to block the dblplm, or have the DE hit without an mC.

-vfexh_0504_05 Minami vs Heruru (Lei). Watch the end of the second round, as Minami attempts a modifed dblplm, he messes up the command input, and accidently inputs a forward jumping punch.... There it is, the third round, the DE hits normal, and the dblplm fails to connect (referring to comment on previous match).

-vfexh_0504_07 AK vs JE. Notice that when Minami whiffs the AS3 (or ABC) he buffers in low throws for escaping purposes of course, as the b,f+p of the AS3 recovers low.

-vfexh_0504_09 AK vs LI. After Lion uses in place QR (from the Pull-In Push-Out Throw) he forward dashes at Minami, mistake. The dblplm takes priority over so many moves that most of the stuff that Lion can throw out from a recovering forwards dash, is gonna get owned.

-vfexh_0504_11 AK vs KA. After a blocked shrm, Minami manages to QTE(G), as he escapes the d+p+g throw from Kage. Minami wants the b,d+p+g throw, but inputs (to his SURPRISE) the commands for the SURPRISE Exchange, now that Akira has nothing that has 100% damage potential after that move, his mind is still on what he would do after the b,d+p+g so he enters in a snglplm. Minami dodges the rising knee of Kage, and connects with p , p , p , DLC, this is probably the smartest thing to do when your opponent is hit from an airborne position, use the DLC once they are at a moderate height (or distance).

I just looked on VF.Evo, and:

    vfexh_0504_13
    vfexh_0504_15
    vfexh_0504_17
    vfexh_0504_19

...are all skipped over from the order the Sega-AM2 put them on their own site, so maybe Vf.Evo missed them. I can gonna fool around with stream box, and when I get these files, I will post the noteworthy parts.

    Minami Step

A few issues ago in Arcadia, there was an interview with Minami Akira where he talked abot his experience at KSII, and he also explained the mechanics behind his stepping. While I can't remember all the text, they had a diagram/flowchart showing what action could lead to another for the Minami step.

    Firstly, here are main links:

[8] or [2] can be cancelled by [3][3]
    [3][3] can be [G]-cancelled by [1][1]
    [3][3] can be [G]-cancelled by [6][6] (or [4][4])
[1][1] can be cancelled by [6][6] (or [4][4])
[6][6] (or [4][4]) can be cancelled by [3][3]
[6][6] can be cancelled by [1][1]
[6][6] (or [4][4]) can be cancelled by [8] or [2]

and then you can put some of the links together and make a chain for the step. Some examples:

    [4][4], [8], [3][3][G], [1][1] and repeat (danny13's example)

    [1][1], [6][6], [2], [3][3][G] and repeat

very nice myke, evade canceling forwardash is news to me, after all this time i thought it was only backdash!, /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

looks like a slightly longer K-step pattern, i'm suprized it has'nt popped up before on the forums, (or that i am aware of). might have a little fun with it tonight ^^

normally i like using [1][1], [4][4] (or vice versa) for just moving in or moving out, seems more helpful than CDG for some reason.

Take a look at some of the "Texas Evo" vids from his Kumite. You will see an all gold (of course) P1 outfit, with the sunglasses and blue bandanna equipped, I think he also has an emblem on his back, but I can't tell which one it is.

Texas Evolution Thread go there soon as they will cycle out the videos, before you get a chance to dl them. These videos are from a recent Kumite of Minami.

KSII Creed also just put his smaller (860mb /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif) file onto #barrybot, so getting the file won't take nearly as long as before!

Sega-AM2 media Thread , these are all the Minami Kumite videos from Sega, you will find the Vf.Evo links on here as well.

Thread of A-cho , on this thread 4 videos were posted from a Kumite of his, I am not sure if the files were put on VF.Evo.........

    More Comments! Texas Kumite!

    Texas Evolution Thread Videos:

These videos are all from another one Minami's existing Kumite events, there are more coming in the future, so keep an eye on the thread.
    - - - - - - -

-star_030605_kumite03 Minami Akira vs JA. First round Minami throws out a blocked b,f+p+k, typically you would expect an immediate striking attack, or throw. But Minami instead of following up with a conventional flow chart starting point, he lands a mid reversal, against Jacky's f+p. And again in the second round, he follow up a blocked b,f+p+k with a modified (back dash) shrm into a wall. I think it was Madagascar who started the the thread asking about what to when you are left at a p counterable disadvantge, Minami throws out a blocked p+k+g palm, and gets hit with a high punch, to which he follow up with a D-QTE(G), and reverses the b+p+g from Jacky. Minami rushes the opponent and then holds a high guard, to which he blocks Jacky's b,f+k+g, which is counterable with pk. Hitting an airborne opponent with shrm p shrm dblplm, this is an example of thinking on you feet, as this situation rarely presents itself.

-star_030605_kumite04 AK vs WO. Most experienced players don't use obvious directional throws after throw counterable moves (such as Wolf's SS), so Minami uses the surprise exchange, and follows up with his favorite move. Minami has many, many flow charts that begin with P, so it catches Wolf off guard when he uses pp.

-star_030605_kumite05 AK vs WO. Minami crouches and attempts a FC move, but eats a SS, p , HCBpp, and then when failing to roll, takes a light down attack, which takes basically 50% of his life bar! As soon as the throws out the dodge with the mod. dbplm, he means business /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif. Round 4, Minami is all out aggression, first with the sngplm, dblplm, after the b,d+p+g throw, then he runs in for a d+f+p+g. After that he slams a dblplm into Wolf, and then punches his way mercilessly for an Excellent!!

-star_030605_kumite06 AK vs JA. Here you see Minami attempt the snglplm, dblplm follow up to b,d+p+g, but he gets the step in fist move instead, this is common amongst incorrect command inputs (notice how after the round, he practice modified dblplms /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif, to ensure that he doesn't miss next time).
