"Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance took gamers by storm, and these numbers prove the franchise is continuing to define the fighting genre," said Helene Sheeler, vice president of marketing, Midway.

Wow, that must make it the fighting "Game of the Year". "Revolutionized the fighting genre." "One of teh best games evar." I bet more than 50 online so-called publications think so. Does that mean they'll re-release it in 20 successive versions with a few new arenas and little "GotY" sticker blurbs on the box?

    Sorry, couldn't resist . . .

Too bad the game was pathetic garbage that was barely more playable than Tao Feng.

    Here it is from IGN.

"According to Midway, the success of the latest Mortal Kombat installment helps cement the franchise's place among the best-selling videogame series of all time. Since its debut in 1992, Mortal Kombat console and computer games have sold more than 20 million copies."

tis merely proof that the video game market is almost on par with the industry of (so-called) music.

i thought the game was pretty fun, i rented it played it and mastered like 3-4 characters all in a few days. It's definitly no VF4 but for the average gamer whos stuck in a world of button mashing games i think it's a good choice for them to slowly get out of that whole phase. Atleast it's a start , it's got multiple forms and different things like that.

No matter how you paint it SW, it's still a masher game.

One of the main reasons imo that this game was purchased so much, was due to reputation (mainly of the first two MK games) and the fairly large amount of hype revolving around this game. It was supposed to be like the first couple games, in terms of style, but was supposed to refresh the series and see if MK could hold its own against the competition of 3D fighting games now a days. There is no way I would have bought this game, having not played alot of MK1 and 2, and having been force fed like hundreds of previews about how MK:DA was such a "big step forward for the series," and the "best MK game ever, and one of the best fighting games ever." And of course most people want to see the F-A-T-A-L-I-T-Y at the end of the match /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif!

And yes, this is the flashiest multi-platform fighting game for while (as SCII was and is still not out in some places), and is an excellent purchase for casual fighting game players, and of course there are the awesome F-A-T-A-L-I-T-Y potentials, at the end of a match!!!

With MK being on all three consoles (and GBA), there is no surprise that with the hype, and now the lower price tag, the game is selling well, oh and of course there is F-A-T-A-L-I-T-Y to help sell it.

Nothing brings back memories like the words FINISH HIM or FLAWLESS VICTORY.....Get Over Here!

Ah, I'm guilty of buying this game, due to the lack of fighting games on the market.

To be honest, it's not a terrible game, just one that fails to hold your attention for very long. Not a patch on VF of course.

Heh, I feel your pain. I bought Tao Feng and Kakuto Chojin. Both of which are insanely crappy games, that looked "promising" in their reports. Oh well, at least I have VF4evo, TTT, and SC2 to make up for all the bad fighters I own.

/versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif You got Tao Feng aka garbage, Kakuto Chojin aka crap and didn't get T4 ! You should be ashamed of yourself. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have T4 as well, but I do not think of it as being as bad as Tao Feng or Kakuto Chojin. Although, I don't consider it as good as VF4evo, TTT, or SC2 either. So I didn't list it. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Man you're harsh ! I bet you didn't even give it a chance. I actually find it more fun than TTT now. But I still agree with your list though. /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm guilty of owning Tekken 4 to. To be honest, it's a good enough game, but again, it didn't have enough to hold my attention. All games should have a quest/kumite aspect to them.

Yea, it's proof that there is a definite decline in taste. But then again, a lot of teenagers find it tough to get into VF. Instead, they get suckered in by the sparkle and hype presented by games like MK and SC. Gaijin had it right when he said it was like the music industry. If you could get rid of the bullshit hype around Britney Spears and Nsync and all of those, I bet they would barely sell anything. Shit, even when they went on tour they'd just have a bunch of 12 year old girls and 40+ year old men at the concert (although the guys would have different reasons for being at either concert). Nah, instead, we'd have a world where people younger than mid 20s actually know who Bob Marley and George Clinton are.

Oh yea, forgot the point. Hell with Mortal Kombat. I can't stand that rancid piece of shit.

In case you didn't know, this is the 5th game in the series. Of the 5, MK3 had 2 upgrades. Some people still play MK games competitively.

MK5 or MK:DA is also the first of the series to debut and be exclusive on console. To sell 2 million copies of the game on various consoles so quickly is very impressive.

I wont be buying though. I stopped playing at MK2 and never looked back.
