1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

I just wanted to make a few comments about the switchable moves in FT.

When I first heard about them, I thought "pointless gimmick" but now I'm not so sure. I see the switchable moves as a pointer towards what we might see in vf5 and 6 etc. OK, they are pretty pointless as they are, but can you imagine if every player had 5,6,7.... even 20 switchable moves? you could even have 3 or 4 options for each move input. You would essentially be able to customise your own character in order to taylor it to your style of play. You could even attach conditions to selecting a move i.e. if you select a really powerful move, you have to select a weaker option for another command.

I think this is the way AM2 is planning to go and I think that is why they have tried it on a small scale in FT. (Think the useless evades in VF3 as opposed to how they are used in VF4). I think this is a good thing, but I'm also interested in hearing what others think

Would be to hard to balance (and take to much time) if the changemoves weren't basicly the same function (which alot are for FT). And then you wouldn't be able to really use them to customize your style of play. It's more of a salesgimmick for FT imho tbh - some moves like Kages old chop just looks outdated.

Btw; evades weren't useless at all in VF3! /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Personally, I think Robio is right. It's also been my theory, and I think the culmination of the general gaming trend to customization. VF4 introduced aesthetic customization, FT change moves, and VF5 potentially complete customization*.

However, while I think a player can determine a character's moves, I think the style of character will remain fixed. I.e. Wolf can't be turned into a Pai. Wolf's moves will continue to be high risk, high reward, but with different trade-offs (e.g. do you prefer 50% damage and -14, or 35% damage and -8) and/or with different functions (guard break or low-throw nitaku chop).

Either that, and/or Internet play. I guarantee you that VF5 will innovate somehow!

BTW, evades were too strong in VF3 and were toned down in VF4.

    * Yes SC fans I know SC2 had change weapons, but there was at least one fighting game that did that before SC and still nobody cared.

    my thoughts exactly ice 9

on the vf3 evade thing, I admit I didn't play vf3 much and I was just going on my initial impressions. I didn't end up using them that much but then again I was used to vf2. I never really got around to playing vf3 enough to play with it.
