This is different from a "What are you listening to now?" thread in the sense it is a way to display most of what our musical tastes are and perhaps help people discover bands.

My intent is to spur conversation, debate, and establish what the community likes. (imagine a random-sing-along at your next VF gathering!)
-----

Fugazi- #1 favorite band ever, I'd give everyone's first child to see them live (if they would tour again).

Hüsker Dü- Without this band, senior year would have been kinda lame. Look into getting their album ZEN ARCADE, one of the greatest ever.

Wesley Willis- A personal hero of mine, some of the best party music ever.

Ween- Give them a genre, they'll play. Middle school was made awesome, partly due to Ween.

The Make Up- The vid explains enough.

Dead Kennedys- Jello Biafra is god.

The Fucking Champs- These guys are GNAR-GNASH-GNASH!!!! Seeing them live was one of the most moving moments in my life. It kicks as when you have a "local" band like them.

Black Flag- The juggernaut from the LA underground. Look into their album Damaged.

Rites of Spring- Say their name in D.C. around the Dischord House and you'll evoke a whole lot of shit. Guy is awesome.

Bad Brains- Fuckin' awesome band (up until "Don't blow bubbles"), they invented hardcore. "."

Trans Am- Phil is awesome. The more I hear from this band the more I like.

Nation of Ulysses- I approve of their style. Some of the best liner notes ever.

Ignition- A great band with Alec Mackaye, the had some great songs.

Happy Go Licky- Rites of Spring Ver.2

Public Enemy- Chuck D. <3

Cr@ss- If you ever wonder where I stand in the "political world," listen to these guys.

Joy Division- OMG. I only found these guys thanks to Sweep.

Grey Matter- Yeah! YEAH!

The Evens- I swear, whatever Ian Mackaye touches he makes awesome.

DANAVA- These guys opened at The Fucking Champs show and fucking kicked sooooo much ass.

Void- Hardcore collides with thrash, a beautiful combo.

The Coup- "FUCK YEAH" will suffice describing them.

Conflict- Crass on steroids.

The Faith- A band as good as Minor Threat, but with Alec Mackaye (Ian's brother).

Embrace- The Faith + Ian Mackaye = awesome.

Sugar- Bob Mould of Hüsker Dü in a fucking awesome pop band, with his signature awesome sound writing and guitar work? Sign me up.

Samhain- "Danzig" kicked ass before they were renamed "Danzig."

Hayden- I can't explain it, but I love his stuff.

Wesley Willis Fiasco- The genius of Wesley Willis in a hard rock band, a combination too awesome to pass up. If you can get the album SpookyDisharmoniousConflictHellride, I encourage you to do so, it fucking kicks so much ass. "Eat my dust, eat my jism! (2:49)"

Lard- Jello Biafra and Ministry are a great combo.

Circle Jerks- Keith Morris is awesomeness.

Pharcyde- Bizarre Ride II is one of the best hip hop albums I've ever heard, look into it.

Flipper- A great band that broke convention; bands of the time where playing as fast as possible, they went as slow and sloppy as possible just to piss everyone off and they were successful.

Note: Albums are italicized and songs are in quotations. I don't list all the band's albums, just the ones I feel are worth checking out.

Alcest- Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde, an absolute treat to listen to when you're just relaxing. Incredibly calming, surprisingly inspirational. Highly recommended. It's Black Metal (but not really black metal).

Agalloch- The Mantle is a fantastic album. Whether or not you're a fan of metal, you should definitely check this one out. Calming music that you'll never get tired of.

Lykathea Aflame- Elvenefris, one of my all time favourites. Hardcore, but definitely worth checking out. The album sort of reminds me of Dante's journey (inferno, purgatory, paradise) which becomes quite evident as you hear the last song, "Walking through the Garden", a shockingly peaceful and serene song.

Between the Buried and Me- Colors is a little weird, but a very well made album.

Unexpect- Check out Utopia and In a Flesh Aquarium. Straight out of Montreal, this is my all time favourite band. Me and my friends like to describe it as a "total mind fuck". In A Flesh Aquarium is definitely more hardcore than Utopia, which is more...regular I suppose, but both albums are worth checking out. However, be wary that chances are you may not like their chaotic method of song writing. Still, if an avant-garde metal band whose style can be described as "a mix of many genres with crazy circus music", controlled chaos and the best use of the violin and keyboard you'll ever hear interest you, definitely check them out.

Insomnium- Above the Weeping World. Very well made. I love it and so should you!

Katatonia- Last Fair Deal Gone Down and Viva Emptiness. Black Metal, sorta Shoe Gazey, with clear vocals. Great sound. Definitely worth checking out.

Gorod- Neurotripsicks. GOOOOORRRROOOOOOOD!!! (you'll understand if you listen to the album =P)

Nightwish- Their entire discography is good, primarily the albums Once, Wishmaster and the new one (with a new singer) Dark Passion Play. Probably the most radio-friendly metal you'll hear (their newest album seems to be even more radio-friendly). It's symphonic metal with clear vocals and well worth your time.

Dark Tranquillity- Their entire discography is worth checking out. If you had to choose, try to at least check out The Gallery and Fiction. A great band with great albums that ooze quality.

That's it for now.

And Sebo, Wesly Willis is the funniest motherfucker I ever heard. Some of my favorites are I wupped Batman's ass and cut the mullet. Also I remember someone letting me listen to The Fucking Champs a couple years ago. They do mostly instrumental stuff right?

Out of my lazyness and wanting to do other stuff, I'm gona skimp on a lot of info/albums/titles and pretty much list genres and artists I like most.

I catch a lot of flak from many people, but I'm huge into electronica genres as a whole. Deep House and Hard House being the weapons of choice for me. That said though, I love hip-hop, grime, indie rock, 80's poppy stuff, anything jazzy and other misc. stuff.

Random favorite bands/artists, commence: (I own and listen to regularly at least one album of the following artists. Not listing these in terms of favorites or in any order, just as I randomly think of them.)

Ian Pooley
BadBoyBill
Richard Humpty Vision
Paul Van Dyk
Jamiroquai
Beastie Boys
Daft Punk
k-os
Gene Farris
Miguel Migs
Nicholas Matar
Fettes Brott
Gorillaz
Fantastic Plastic Machine
The Strokes
The Streets
The Clash
The Beatles
The The
The Rapture
The Mars Volta
Underworld
Chemical Brothers
Audio Bullys
Basement Jaxx
Dizzee Rascal
Wiley
Jazztronik
Deep Dish
Blue Six
Lupe Fiasco
Hot Chip
Telepopmusik
Common
Groove Armada
Max Graham

And then two albums which are various artists that I find absolutely golden are the Ridge Racer 4 soundtrack, and basically every track created for Samurai Champloo.

Cannot, believe I forgot Daft Punk. Always been a huge fan, but finally got to see them live in August. Best show I've ever seen. Not exagerating at all either lol.

Earth Wind and Fire are awesome, I've recently goten into em. Same for Bob Marley. I mean I've always known of his songs, liked them when I hear them, but it's really growing on me now.

You doods here have good taste. Props. And by good taste I don't mean you like what I like, I just mean I can tell people like stuff here cause they actually like it. Not just buying into marketed music and what not.

I like you (but I HATE the Clash/Ramones/Social D).

If you like The Misfits, check out Samhain, and Dead Kennedys: Millions of Dead Cops (MDC).

Wesley isn't the funniest motherfucker you've ever heard; he's the Greatest Motherfucker You Have Ever Heard.

He was a song-writing master, example:

The Horse Bit Me
Once upon a time I took a trip to South-West ranch
It was one-and-a-half hour trip out of Denver, Colorado
It was a harmony joy-ride as I spoken
It was long road trip

The Horse Bit Me
The Horse Bit Me
The Horse Bit Me
The Horse Bit Me

The horse followed me to the cabin
As I tired to pet it, the horse bit me on my ass
The horse then kicked me to the curb...
I was in pain for a while (best line I've heard in a song)

The Horse Bit Me
The Horse Bit Me
The Horse Bit Me
The Horse Bit Me

The horse ran away from the cabin
The horse took off running after it kicked me to the curb
It was a stupid-ass horse as I spoken
The horse bit and kicked me for nothing

The Horse Bit Me
The Horse Bit Me
The Horse Bit Me
The Horse Bit Me

Rock over London,
Rock on Chicago,
Kinko's

Yeah, except for 4 songs by The Fucking Champs, all of them are instrumental, which, in my eyes, makes them the greatest "metal" band ever.

Great riffs, unspoiled by inane lyrics. They kick ass.

----More bands----

The Minutemen- I need to get more of their music, as they're fucking awesome.

The Stooges- Iggy Pop kicks ass.

MC5- Some of the coolest footage I've seen.

Fatlip- My favorite MC; his lyrics are extremely different from all others, as opposed to propping himself up like tons of whack-ass MCs, he has a more bleak, depressed view of life. "Who am I kiddin', who am I fooling, when they be like 'what's up Fatlip?' and I say 'coolin.'" You don't get more real than that.

Of course I meant Misfits with Danzig. Michael Graves sucks ass. I tried to listen to newer Misfits but it was some shit like "I wanna be a New York Ranger, I wanna live a life of Danger" <- IT FUCKEN SUCKED

I havent heard Dead Kennedys without Jello but I wouldn't even want to.

I like Misfits and Danzig so I'm guessing I would probably like Samhain as well. I'll check them out.

I work as a house DJ, so a lot of that stuff. I've never been much of a trainspotter so I can't accurately rattle off my charts other than "that one with the blue sticker on it" or "that one with the melodic interlude and that girl singing."

However, whilst driving, these are the albums currently in my visor:

*Seu Jorge - Cru
*Calvin Harris - I Created Disco
*The Rub- It's the Motherfuckin' Remix Vols. 2.1 & 2.2
*Arto Lindsey - A burned CD a friend lent me
*Suga Free - The New Testament ("Don't Fight the Pimpin'" gets me pumped for . . . well just about everything)

I had missed this in your post. Have you heard his song he did with the Chemical Brothers? The Salmon Dance. It's a fun, even silly song, but it's super tight. I love it.
