I want it to be fake! Jet Li as Akira?! Lucy Liu as Pai and Dural will be male?! WTF! Why can't they just leave the franchise alone?!

I hope the cast is subject to change too...

    I Love Lucy as Pai

Lucy Liu as Pai is wonderful casting (imho). She reminded me of Pai Chan in Shanghai Noon with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. Liu is super as Shanghai's <font color="pink"> 'damsel in distress'</font color> and she does manage to get a few kicks in near the end of this wonderful film. I can't wait for the Disney sequel!
I thought of VF when I watched Ms. Liu in Charlie's Angels too.

Interesting: Director is from Detriot suburbs, Ms. Liu is from Queens. thx grynn! terrific find!

I disagree, I Zhang Zhiyi from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the best choice for Pai.

Jet Li as Akira: Are you kidding? What is he 130 pounds? He better hit the gym immediately. The only guy who can play Akira is that guy Bolo from the movie Bloodsport. /versus/images/icons/grin.gif /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

Re: I Love Lucy as Pai

Zhang Ziyi IS a better Pai than Lucy, but still, Lucy Lui being Pai is NOWHERE as absurd as Jet Li being Akira or Julian Sands being Dural!!!!

That's what happens when they getting ppl who've NEVER EVER played the game to make the movie!

Lookswise, Kip Pardue as Jacky is a pretty decent choice tho. Kinda looks like the character.

Don't go there if you don't like the idea of <font color="pink"> Lucy </font color> in men's underwear.

    Lucy has such a smile.

Akira is not very big actually. Jet Li is God. Filmmaker can make him look pretty big.
Dural will be played by a man but with morphing and terminator mirror camo and breast implants? /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

I would think there'd be buzz about this by Jet Li heads, who
would be playing VF surely and would have posted rumors about
this previous. And how about Sam Raimi directing? If it's fake at
least the faker has good taste in directors...but you need to have the
Raimi who directed DARKMAN and QUICK AND THE DEAD, rather
than SPIDER-MAN, IMO. A martial arts freak fest needs Raimi to
    Hong Kong out.

Akira is a figurehead for VF, and even if Jet Li is too small, his prodigious
martial skill will solve that problem. Bigger problem than that is that Akira is
Japanese, isn't he? Perhaps this is a mistake (if the movie is
real)...Li might be playing another role, possibly Lei or some kind of amalgamation
of several characters...prepare for that. Li might be a combination of monk
Lei and monkish Akira, because Akira has no motivation and Lei does. Two
characters melded into one might make sense...perhaps make Akira Japanese/Chinese
descent, explaining why Li would have a Japanese name.

Lucy Liu is just plain sexy as hell and frankly, she could give Pai
that simmering, boiling anger at her father that Ziyi could not pull
    off.

Since Dural is technically NOT a woman but a machine that collects
the fighting styles and persona of opponents to become an androgynous
weapon, Sands could actually pull this off. He has that creepy, gayish
but dangerous aura about him that might be downright disturbing, say, if
Dural is kind of sexually energized by the potential to aborb a new fighting style...
Dural could become a kind of martial technique vampire who lusts
after opp.'s skill and crushes them with their own ability. Interesting.

I really got excited about this...:(
    www.imbd.com
    is an excellent site...
but when you go there and search for virtua fighter
you find a VF movie purpotedly directed by Yu Suzuki-san

What percentage of American moviegoers can tell Japanese people apart from Chinese people? Still, they should have Li play Lei fei. Lucy Liu is gorgeous.

Does Sam Raimi like Vf, I wonder? He seems too smart to play Tekken. Evil Dead 2 is one of the funniest movies ever. Spiderman was cool for a big Hollywood movie.

I hope the characters use their actual moves. I want to see one of Lau's monster floats.

You ought to check out Li's THE ONE, which is a disappointment
all around but not as bad as some think; point is, the movie's
evil supervillain Li performs a particular style of wushu (sic) called,
I believe, the Xigong Fist (sorry if I'm f'ing up the terminology here),
which is a very hardcore, straight-ahead brutal style that concentrates on
fast power strikes that are short and compact, vaguely (very) similar to
Akira's style. I read this style was developed by prisoners (of the Chings?),
Chinese martial artists whose hands and feet were chained, designating
the very short striking and kicking movement system.

i checked out the actual IMDB site and looked up VF.

And it does say that its directed by Yu Suzuki, but why does it say, in the Credited Cast section that Michael Shawn Langley is Deputy Sherrif Eddie???
Since when did VF have a sheriff?
