    We've started taking stats of matches in the arcade in Toronto. We wanted to start a league system of tracking people's skills. I know that the FLA crew is onboard, and that the NYC crew is also onboard. We should be getting some data from them soon as well.

    Nonetheless, here's Toronto's first set of stats from Friday November 23rd at Video Amusements. This will be added to as more league nights are recorded.

    If anyone is interested in finding out how the ratings are calculated, or what you need to do to get your VF group involved/included, don't hesitate to PM me or catch me at #vfhome on IRC EFnet.

    what does NAVF stand for? Im sure if LA crew hopped on. We could just give you the stats off our cards.

    Plus why not just explain the point ranking rules and system in this post.

    Well, unfortunately, that wouldn't work. Your rating is calculated based on your wins, of course, but the amount of points you get for a win will depend on the rating of your opponent.

    The reason I didn't include the formulas originally is because I was tired...:)

    Here's the skinny:

    Winning Expectancy is calculated as follows:
    We = (1+10^-(R-Ri)/400))^-1
    R = players rating points
    Ri = ith opponent's rating points
    For each league night, E is the sum of all winning expectancies experienced by the player throughout the night. Optimally, you want everyone to play everyone, but this is not always the case.
    Each player is also assigned a Rating Coefficient (K). This coefficient is used to determine the maximum number of rating points that can be won or lost in any one game. K scales according to the number of matches played by the player as well as their rating points.

    K is calculated as follows:
    K = 800/(N'+m)

    Where N' is the player's Effective Games.
    N' = min(N,N*)
    N = total number of matches played up until the beginning of the Fight Session from previous Fight Sessions.
    N=m if it's the player's first Fight Session. Where m is the number of matches played in the Fight Session.

    N* (if R<2200) = 50 / (1+(2200-Ro)^2/10000)^(0.5)
    N* (if R>2200) = 50

    Getting complicated huh? Well, it's not that bad, really. And we're almost done. Hang in there. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

    The rating coefficient, K, is developed by the above situations. This enables new players to move quickly towards a rating that reflects their true ability level, while adding a level of stability to the ratings of more experienced players.

    From both the Winning Expectancy and the Rating Coefficient, the players rating following a Fight Session is calculated accordingly:

    R = Ro + K(S-E) + Bonus
    Where Ro is the players rating before the Fight Session.
    S is the number of matches won during the Fight Session.
    E is the sum of all the Winning Expectancies encountered in the Fight Session.

    Lastly, there is a bonus added on to the R calculation for players who are playing within a field far above their ranking. This applies to people who join the league mid way through a season and there are players who have already increased their ratings.

    Bonus = max(0, B)
    Where B = K(S-E) - 10*m^(0.5)

    If you guys want in, that'd be great. What someone would have to do is write down all the matches from a night of VF and send me the data. It's pretty easy to do, just get a small note pad and write down who played who, and who won. That's it, and I would update the league stats accordingly. We'd like to get a more official look to this whole thing, but we're still working on it. In the meantime, we're starting to keep stats anyway. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif So, if you're interested, great, please PM me and we can go over the details.

    cheers,

    Re: NAVF Evo League -Some changes

    Well, after reviewing the way we've been calculating the stats, we've made some changes. First off, we've removed the bonus structure. Now, the system calculates your rating dynamically, match to match. Before, it was league night to league night. This new way is more accurate as it reflects your rating as you play.

    So, with these changes, the following table contains the revamped stats for the night of November 23, 2002.

    <pre><font class="small">code:</font><hr>
    =====================================================
    PLAYER | CITY | MATCHES | WINS | RATING |
    =====================================================
    Johnson | Toronto | 42 | 28 | 1139.45 |
    -----------------------------------------------------
    Llanfair | Toronto | 36 | 21 | 1056.02 |
    -----------------------------------------------------
    kbcat | Toronto | 13 | 7 | 1021.01 |
    -----------------------------------------------------
    GodEater | Toronto | 34 | 19 | 1004.66 |
    -----------------------------------------------------
    Martin | Toronto | 16 | 6 | 974.27 |
    -----------------------------------------------------
    Ken | Toronto | 13 | 4 | 914.77 |
    -----------------------------------------------------
    Postman | Toronto | 19 | 3 | 878.47 |
    =====================================================</pre><hr>

    After the next league stats from November 30th, the stats now look like this:
