This game is going to be fantastic. Of particular note is the new team session mode that allows groups of players to play tournaments online, cheering other players on and watching every match played.

According to this report the online fighting is nearly flawless:

The online mode seems to be getting alot of thumbs up. If it works as well as they say it does, There may be a strong possibility of other fighters Such as Vf going online. oh, and that long ass debate that was made about online play may be proven to be mute.

    "nearly flawless"

    =)

    Edit:

Actually I was playing DOA3 the other day with my friend, and I was having a good time. Hopefully, the DOA2 engine will make the counters' timing more tight.

For those who play DOA a lot, is the only time you're safe from a counter when you float the other player? Or when you 'crumple' the other player? (sorry, I only know VF terms). It seems like the safest course of action is to use a floater move, and then do a combo, because if you don't the player can stop you mid-combo with a counter. Is this correct?

-Your opponent cannot attempt a Counter Hold when he/she is either in the air(from a float), During 2 hit combos(most of the time), During unholdable stuns such as limbo stun and Character specific non breakable stuns, and during a back turned position.

Yea, the report also mentions that gameplay remains smooth online with "an occasional hiccup". I hope this means the rumoured 30hz online was just bullshit.

The idea of groups of players online watching each match in a tourney or whetever sounds fantastic.

Definately 30fps from the looks of things will that make a difference not generally. But i'm a bit worried about having so many people watching one game. Anyway i'm not getting my hopes up just yet but it sure will be fun for an alternative to vf /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I terms of the network code I don’t think having a few spectators will make a big difference to the lag. The host Xbox doesn’t need to receive or wait for any data from the spectators as their view of the match and camera inputs are irrelevant. The host will have to send packets out to each connected Xbox but that’s probably fairly fast when handled in a batch. Also, priority will be given to the Xbox actually playing a match.

Having said that I’ve no idea how much bandwidth the voice comms require. I think standard phone conversations only require 9kb/s to process recognisable audio – possibly Xbox live uses about this per user. It’s going to be fun hearing groups of people cheering on their respective side, barring the occasional idiot you’re bound to encounter

I really hope this works out; it’ll definitely set a new benchmark in terms of what fighting games should aspire to if so. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Yeah from the gamespot article doa2 and doa will be in 60fps i think. Can't remember aslong as people can send replays etc.. that would be cool Man i just wish this was VF :p

-Why should you be worried, its no different than having a group of people surrounding you in an arcdae while you play. This aspect gives the game a psuedo Arcade Element. There is usually no more than 8 people at one machine anyways(unless its a high profile match up). There should be a multitude of on line arcade setups for people to get in....

-This is exactly what Vf needs in the states. Sega should impliment this into their latest installment, considering there are hardly any vf machines and the people who dont have a steady flow of competition can congregate and learn from eachother..oh well, maybe im just a dreamer.

-DoaU is running @ 60 fps off and online.

-What do you guys think about the ranking system that team ninja is employing:

Now, about your grades. As we mentioned earlier, DOAU will feature a UPS file that tracks data on everything you do in the game. As you play through DOAU, you'll start to earn a grade level (E, D, C, B, A, S, SS) based on how you do. Your grade will serve to identify your skill level, branding you as everything from noob to badass extraordinaire, and it'll give you a way to find players to compete against that are at your level of expertise.

Same for Europe. For those who don't get much human VS play the inconvenience of a bit of lag isn't going to loose them sleep. The potential to learn from others online would be fantastic.

I'm not worried about how many people watch but whether they will affect the match(lagwise). Nothing couldn't be more annoying than someone slowing you down because he decides to be downloading from bittorrent :p

From the looks of things it doesn't sound strictly peer to peer like most xbox live games.

The Ups thing is nice but lets face it someone with 1000 wins and 0 losses could be completely rubbish when you play them. I'd rather just play people who you know are good. Online rankings sometimes never reflect true skill. Although the online UPS is a must have.

    Hitomi appearing in DoaU

-Hitomi from doa3 is a playable character in DoaU. It seems like Team Ninja is going to add more Doa3 elements into this game. Here is the link:

    Doa Revisions

The Counter hold system in Doa is being revamped yet again. Instead of Doa2's or doa3's hold system...a combination of the two is being made...a 4 point counter hold system. It should work like:

    1)[7][G] High Hold
    2)[4][G] Mid Punch hold
    3)[6][G] Mid Kick hold
    4)[1][G] Low hold

Here is a link to this info: DoaU Preview

Here is an Excerpt of Game Informer Itagaki interview:

GI: … How will the ranking system work in DOAU? Say, for example, I’m playing you and you’re kicking my butt all over the place and I just decide to reset my machine, and I quit out. Will I be punished somehow? Will my ranking drop?

Itagaki: Of course it has to be that way. You have to be penalized for something like that. So, you know, no matter what the cause is, you know, whether if it’s lightening that turns you off, or a cat who presses the button you’re still responsible. It should be set up in the way that you’re responsible regardless of the cause. So of course, you know, not knowing what the real reason for your machine being turned off just because based on the assumption that something outside of your control must have done it, that’s not good enough to spare you from being penalized. On the other hand, the only way that you can be recognized for your win is when you win. And that’s what I believe.

-This is great News. You dropping Mofo's will be punished for your trifling actions...Thank GOD.

Here is a link: Itagaki interview

What else is there.......Did I say DoaU is Gorgeous...but that was expected..oh yeah. For those that dreamed of international play, DoaU will be playable worldwide. The Japanese will play against the Koreans and the Koreans Vs. the Americans...etc .

Here is an Excerpt from the same article:

GI: You’re allowing people, with the language option, to play people in Japan and different countries. What was your biggest challenge with bringing this online? I mean playing across the ocean is, with a fighting game that’s so twitch, is pretty difficult.

Itagaki: Of course, once I arrived in the U.S. for this trip I experimented with my guys in Japan, and there was no problem whatsoever. Of course I don’t just say these things unless I test it myself. After testing the international online fight between the U.S. and Japan I can tell you that I’ve decided to make DOAU more about the global online fighting game.

Did I dream hearing this, or is it indeed true that the DOA engine was based on Suzuki's engine for VF?

In other words, DOA is a derivation of VF (then again, I suppose the entire genre of 3D beat-'em-ups kind of is).

I do want to make one comment...every 3d game is not a rip of VF....VF pioneered the concept of 3D fights, but that does not make every other fighter a copy/attempt at vf...thats like saying every control sceme is a copy of capcoms joystick programming...

-I hope so as well. So far what was shown...Everything looks very good. The online mode will be the best out of anygame on xbox live, The gameplay mechanics have been said to be tweaked to cater more to the hardcore players(Ie the revamped hold system). I just want the game in my hand so I can give a real evaluation of the game /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif
