Hey there. I am new to the boards and a newbie at VF4 Evo as well.

Need help on chosing a character who is suitable for beginners.

    I kinda like Lei fei.

    And one more question:

    I never played VF4.

What's the difference between that and Evolution?

This sorta gets asked a lot so you might find some other 'who should I play' threads to see why people pick who they pick.

If you're new to VF, some characters are easier to learn with than others. I think lei fei is one of the hardest. So if you want to have fun, stick with lei, but if you want to learn and get good, you might want to stick with a more "typical" VF character (some would say a more "boring" character)

    Characters I consider pretty typical:

    Kage, Lau, Jacky, Jeffry, Goh

One thing these characters have in common is that they don't have much in the way of special stance attacks, and the ones they do have aren't really all that necessary to win (though a kage player should definitely make use of some of his powerful stance options).

Characters I think new people to keep away from for a while, until they know the basics of the game:

    Shun, Lei, Aoi, Wolf, Brad.

These and other characters have certain parts of their game that make them a little tougher to learn with. Some rely on stance stuff a lot more (lei fei, for example). Some have moves or combos that require a lot of dexterity (akira). Some don't have the "normal" knee or elbow type attacks that many other characters need to use, for example shun di or pai. Some have to rely on strange tricks that you don't use with any other character (like aoi can guard cancel a lot of good moves, which nobody else can, and shun is the only character who can drink to boost his damage potential). Lastly, characters like wolf are hard to learn with vs good competition because they rely on high risk - high reward moves, and to make use of those moves without getting raped requires tight spacing and defense and understanding of attack speed... stuff a beginner just won't have right off the bat.

cooool. I play goh too. Feel free to send me questions. I wrote a goh guide here: http://virtuafighter.com/view.php?section=vf4&chara=goh&file=vf4evo_goh_quickstart.txt

    Good luck.

Oh, PS: evolution vs vf4 -

    1. Lots of gameplay tweaks and fixes and balances are in evo, so everyone is more fair or more competitive.

    2. Goh and Brad aren't in VF4, just evo.

    3. VF4 stages were different colors, and in the case of pai completely changed.

    4. Different music in both games.

    5. Different (and more) items in evo.

Don't be afraid to use Lei if you like his style and his stances... it's fine to cut your teeth in VF with a 'beginner character'... but I think if you really like a character, you'll practice enough and get better with them, reguardless of the difficulty of their moves.

Also, don't be afraid to switch characters if you don't like one character's style. I started with Pai and then went to Aoi, and now I'm on Vanessa. If you feel like Goh isn't 'your' character, than keep changing till you find someone you click with.

I think I am fine with Goh. One question though: In the manual of VF4EVO in the Goh section it says something about Tsukami Attacks. What are they and how do you perform them?

Read Creed's Goh guide that he linked above. Most (if not all) of your Goh related questions will be answered in there.

I picked my character. For now, it's Jacky and Goh.

IMHO, Lion's the easiest character to learn. No stances, no hard mid-air combos. No big dexterity or precision (aside from [6][1]+[P]+[G][P][P][P]).
I guess it's just the perfect character for a begginer player. Try it if you like.

Don't mind shang, he's just working on his master's degree in trolling.

PS: Lion's an ok beginner's character, but I hope you stick with jacky/goh.

I don't like Lion's style. And his voice.

I'll stick with Jacky and Goh.
